EPISODE SIX
MY STRANGE NEIGHBOR ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐Written by Nicholas Stephen
What do you need my sister for again!”
“Do you want to dรฎe!”
“No no no please.. Please..” I begged her seriously while retreating.
She materialized a particular orange leaf, inserted it inside the calabash while speaking in some strange tongues and then handed it to me.
“Take it.. Squeeze the water and dispose the leaf. Mix the water in any of her favourite food make sure you confirm that she ate it. Did you hear what I just said!” She uttered horribly.
“I can’t do this… I can’t… You want to use my sister just the way you’re using me..You want to kรฎll her! I can’t… Enough if this!” I summoned courage to bellow at her.
She stamped her staff and pointed it towards me. My left eye suddenly became blind.
“My eye! My eye! Jesus my eye!” I screamed on tรดp of my voice while scratching it..
“It seems you don’t know who you’re dealing with. Try me!” She laughed horribly, leaped up and varnished alongside with the calabash.
After groaning in pains, I picked the leaf and woke up.
When I woke up, my left eye was itching me badly. The more I try to scratch the greater the pains. So I decided to leave it and bear the pains.
While rolling on the couch and thinking about the weird dream I had, I saw the orange leaf that she gave me.
It was in front of the door. The reflection coming outside made some part of the parlour to be bright.
It was as if someone had slipped it through the door. I bent down to see if there was any hole under the door, but the door blocked everything.
I was taken aback.
“How did this leaf enter this house..” I began to question myself while standing.
“Shedrack are you okay?” Someone abruptly voiced out. My heart almost raced out…
I quickly turned.
“Oh Esther is that you!” I exhaled, while using style to slip the leaf under the couch with my left leg
She stood up, turned on her phone’s torch and came close to me.
“What happened to your eye.”
“Nothing. It was just scratching me when I woke up.. Esther I’m fine okay..”
“Are you sure? because time is almost 4:30 and you’re awake. Were you looking for something?”
“No no Esther I’m fine okay.. Let’s go back to sleep…”
I exhaled and collapsed on my bed after successfully hiding the leaf.
She was just staring at me speechless and confused..
During the morning devotion, mum saw the eye and was shocked.
“Shedrack what happened to your left eye…”
“Mum it was just scratching me. It has reduced. It’s not that serious..”
“And you didn’t even bother to tell me!”
“Mum… I… I..”
“Come let me look it at..” mum muttered, raising my head and observing it.
“Hmmmm you people should be very careful oo..”
We continued our prayers till she wrapped everything up. Mum got dressed, gave Esther some of her clothes to wash and went to work.
Dad also left the house around 9am.
When Esther was outside washing mum’s clothes, I secretly brought the leaf I had hidden under the couch and began to stare at.
I held it and began to stare at myself in the mirror in dad’s room.
I noticed that the eye had reddened and swelled. It abruptly began to itch me badly.
I rushed to the kitchen, brought out a small bowl of water and dipped my face inside . The pains subsided while it was submerged in water.
When my sister came to collect soap from the kitchen she sighted me.
“Shedrack!”
“Shedrack…” She called and tapped me thrice.
I was silent with all my face inside the bowl of water..
“Shedrack I’m talking to you!” She tapped me repeatedly on my back.
