“Esther.. Esther!!!” I tapped her thrice and she was immobile.
“Jesus Christ. What should I do.”
“Shedrack do something!!”
“Should I tell mum… Esther wake up.. Esther wake up please… Esther!”
Mum rushed out from her room, looking perplexed while knotting her wrapper tightly against her brรจasts.
I quickly stood up looking so pale.
“Shedrack what is it… Your voice woke me up. Don’t you know this is midnight. Time is not even up to 2:20am yet!”
“Mum…. Mum… I.. it’s Esther…” I stuttered, gazing at the floor.
“Yes. What happened to her?”
“Shedrack! What happened to my daughter.. You’re not saying anything ..”
Merely looking at me alone mum could sรจnse that something was fishy. She rushed to meet her in the couch and tapped her consistently but she wasn’t responding.
“Peter!!” Mum shouted in tears.
“Peter our daughter is dieing..”
Dad rushed out and saw mum pressing Esther’s chest and tapping her consistently.
Mum wasn’t herself.
“My daughter is dying and you can’t even speak up on time! What kind of evรฎl brother are you.” Mum yelled at me, giving me a hot slap.
“Commo go and get me water. Fast!!” Mum thundered at me.
While dad was assisting mum to wake her up, I ran to the kitchen like a mรกd man to fetch her some water.
Mum ran out crazily and raised an alarm that her daughter is dyรฎng.
Almost everyone in the compound rushed out excluding the woman of which I hadn’t seen for months..
Others were praying, inserting spoon in her mouth, while some were splashing her some water.
Everyone was doing their best, but it appeared that their efforts were futile. I just sat a few feet away, crying and watching them.
“What happened to my daughter, what is it. Talk to me. Why is she not waking up! Please you people should say something…” Mum kept pleading and crying hysterically.
Mum had already ran out of options and the thoughts of taking her to an hospital came in.
One of the women that was praying (mrs Jane) quickly pronounced that her situation was beyond going to the hospital. She said her spirit is trapped and if her spirit couldn’t get back to her body on time, we’d lose her..
She also added that her chances of survival were minimal except with the grace of God..
“This is your fault… This is your fault!” Mum shรณuted pointing at me.
She came and began to beat me up with annoyance. Most of the ladies held her and pleaded with her not to blame for it on me likewise dad.
That’s how everyone struggled till 7am. No one could sleep because of the situation on ground. Although I mistakenly dozed off. Can’t remember the exact time but when I dozed off I saw my sister crying and walking away from me. A bright light shone behind her, only a few feet away.
When I questioned her why she was crying and walking away from me, she uttered.
“Shedrack how could you! You know what you did..”
“Please I can explain. I’ll fix this trust me.”
“Fix what!!! You think I don’t know what you did? You collided with that woman! That wรฎtch! I never knew you could be this stรปpรฎd” She shouted.
“Esther. Esther please just listen!”
“Esther!!”
She kept crying and withdrawing herself from me till she entered the bright light behind her and obliterated.
I cried and woke up. The parlour was filthy and my whole body was drenched with water.
Everyone was outside. The gathering was dense much and my sister laid lifeless on one of my mum’s blue wrapper.
When one of the women praying yelled my name, I dashed over to meet her. Mum was crying and glaring at me angrily.
