Patrick took a deep breath, his eyes locking onto his family.
“I called this meeting to beg you guys to help me,” Patrick began, his voice filled with emotion.
He walked over to Perry and took her hand.
“I’m not getting any younger, and I need to settle down soon with Perry. Please support me. I’m giving you guys the last chance because I love you guys so much.”
Ken’s face twisted in outrage.
“Last chance? How dare you! Who needs our help, giving us a last chance?” Ken stood up, grabbing his wife’s hand.
“I’m out of here.”
His father intervened, his voice firm.
“Ken, stop and sit down.”
Ken reluctantly agreed and sat down, his anger simmering.
Emma stood up, a pleading expression on her face.
“Bro, my business is really struggling. Please let’s go back to Port Harcourt and manage my business together.”
Bright nodded in agreement.
“Dear Patrick, I know I’m not related to you, but I’ll also support you.”
Cynthia’s face contorted in bitterness.
“Patrick, you succeeded in destroying my relationship with Bright, now you want money from him?” Have some sh*me.
Their mother intervened, her voice stern.
“Cynthia, quiet and sit down.”
Their father stood up, his eyes fixed on Patrick.
“Well, Patrick, you’re yet to answer my question. Who owns that car outside? You promised to tell me in four days. It’s four days already, so start talking.”
Ken’s accusation was instant.
“You mean Patrick brought that car? He must have st*len someone’s car!”
Patrick smiled calmly, pulling out the car receipt from his pocket and handing it to his dad.
When his father read the document, he was stunned.
Ken rushed over, snatching the receipt from his father’s hand.
His eyes widened in awe.
“Patrick, continue,” his father urged.
Patrick took a deep breath.
“Dad, Mom, everyone… I actually didn’t lose my job. In fact, I was given a one-year leave and a bonus of 1 million dollars, approximately 1.5 billion naira.”
Patrick’s words hung in the air like a challenge, his eyes scanning the room.
“I sacrificed everything for this family, neglecting my own needs. When I received the bonus, I considered sharing it among you, but I decided to test your love instead. I wanted to see if you’d respect me even when I had nothing.”
Ken’s face turned beet red with rage.
“How dare you! You deceived us, made us believe you were struggling!”
Cynthia’s eyes blazed with anger.
“You used us, Patrick! You made us think you were po0r!”
Bright’s expression transformed from shock to understanding.
“Patrick, I had no idea. You didn’t lose your job?”
Emma’s voice trembled.
“So, you’ve been pretending to be p0or, and you have all this money?”
Perry’s eyes narrowed.
“You tested me too, Patrick. You wanted to know if I’d stay with you even when you had nothing.”
Patrick’s smile was tinged with sadness.
“I had to know, Perry. And fortunately, you passed my test.”
Patrick turned to Bright.
“Give me your account number, immediately.”
Bright hesitated for a moment before rattling off his account details.
Patrick swiftly sent 100 million naira to Bright’s account.
Bright’s eyes widened as he checked his phone.
“Patrick, you sent me 100 million!”
Patrick’s reply was calm.
“Consider it my unconditional love for treating me like a human being, not an an!mal.”
Cynthia’s face twisted in envy as she peered at Bright’s phone.
“Is this real?” she whispered.
Emma’s eyes sparkled with hope.
“Patrick, did you send me money too,I just received an alert?”
Patrick nodded.
“200 million, Emma. For your business.”
Emma shrieked as she checked his account.
“200 million! Oh, Patrick!”
Lucy gasped as Patrick sent her 20 million naira.
“Patrick, thank you!” Lucy exclaimed, showing Ken the money on her phone.
Ken’s face twisted in shock, his eyes wide with desperation.
“Cynthia, do something!” Ken whispered urgently.
Cynthia’s face contorted in anguish, her voice trembling.
“Patrick, please forgive us! We didn’t mean to hurt you!”
She fell to her knees, hands clasped together.
Ken joined her, his eyes pleading.
“Patrick, we’re sorry! Don’t leave us like this!”
Patrick’s expression remained unyielding.
“It’s too late for apologies, Ken. And Cynthia, you should have thought of that before you treated me like d,!rt.”
Bright and Emma exchanged grateful glances, their faces still reeling from the surprise.
Perry’s hand found its way back into Patrick’s, her eyes shining with love.
“Let’s go,” Patrick said, his voice firm.
As they turned to leave, Ken and Cynthia scrambled to their feet.
“Patrick, wait!” Ken called out, desperation creeping into his voice.
But Patrick ignored him, striding out of the house, Perry by his side.
“Please, Patrick!” Cynthia begged, tears streaming down her face.
As Patrick and Perry stepped into the bright sunlight, Patrick’s smile returned.
“Let’s get out of here,” he said, opening the car door for Perry.
Cynthia frantically ran inside, begging Bright to go talk to Patrick for them.
“Bright, please go talk to Patrick for us!” Cynthia pleaded.
Bright’s expression turned cold.
“Leave my sight, Cynthia. You should have thought of that before you treated Patrick badly.”
Cynthia’s face fell, but she refused to give up.
“Bright, please!”
“Get lost!” Bright shouted.
Cynthia’s eyes welled up with tears as she turned to Emma.
“Emma, please help!” Cynthia begged.
However, Emma wasn’t having it.
“Leave me alone, Cynthia,” Emma said firmly.
Desperate, Cynthia turned to her parents.
“Mom, Dad, please talk to Patrick for us,” Cynthia implored.
But her parents were unforgiving.
“Cynthia, you should have thought of this when you treated your brother badly,” her mother said.
“You and Ken showed no compassion or love. Get lost!” her father added.
Ken, on his knees, begged.
“Please, Mom, Dad, we’re sorry. We won’t treat him badly again. Just beg him for us.”
But his mother’s response was stern.
“There’s no next time, Ken. Patrick won’t be coming to your houses, for you to hurt him again.”
“We thought you both had hearts, but you chose to be cruΓ©l. Leave us.”
Cynthia and Ken exchanged devastated glances, realizing too late the damage they’d done.
