HOSTILITY ON A WOMAN.💫💝
🌷EPISODE 3.🌷
Ezinne’s heart was in her mouth as she kept staring.
Her face instantly was shadowed in deep misery and the whole world
immediately went blank before her eyes.
She made efforts to stop weeping but she couldn’t.
She made her way to her room and packed her clothes in the luggage.
“Mama you wouldn’t have slapped her” I said.
“She deserves more than that” Mama retorted…
Ezinne came out with her visage like a wet week-end…
She made her way out of the portal made of iron door while mama and I
bursted into laughter.
“She lacks good home training” Mama muttered grinning like a Cheshire cat.
“Yes, her mother died when she was six” I replied.
“She needs to learn intensively, because with this behavior, she can’t fend
with her husband when she finally gets married” Mama said with a low voice
–not thunderous.
“I pray she learns how to manage a home” I responded thoughtfully and we
continued watching the interesting movie.
Few hours later, Ben came back with lots of gifts.
I was surprised when he handed the polythene bag over to me.
“I am sorry Obi m, please forgive me” He said, touching my jaw with his
fingers and kíssed me gently.
I was over the moon because the Ben I knew had come back.
Mama’s mug was full of great smiles and she left us to converse heartily in
the sitting room.
“I love you Obi m” Ben said showing his white dentition.
“I love you too. Carry your child and talk to her, she is your carbon copy”
I uttered and smirked brightly.
Ben ignored and asked me to come over to the bedroom when I am done that he
needed to freshen up.
I was perplexed “what are you really saying? This is your child Ben.
Meanwhile, you haven’t asked of your sister” I said struck dumb.
“Yes, she called and said she had gone back to school” Ben said bouncing
off the walls.
“I would be waiting for you Obi m” he added
Ben left the sitting room and mama came and saw me bewildered.
“What happened Mezuo?” She queried
“Ben refused to talk to his child” I answered.
Mama chuckled and said “Maybe he is drained,–I think he needs some rest”.
I nodded positively at what mama said because I found it reasonable.
Two weeks later, when Mama had left us.
Ben and I were very happy with each other but each time I mention my child
to him, his face would always be full of fury.
I begged him to dedicate our child to God but he utterly refused.
In his words, he said “She is a girl, she is not worth dedicating. I won’t
spend my money on her.
When he said this, I kept cogitating wistfully” Who gave birth to this man?
Were you born by a sheep?” I said in my mind.
I did not ask him this questions because It would have caused a fight.
Our pastor came and preached as much as he could for this child to be
sacralized but Ben bluntly rejected.
I was scared Ben might strangle this child one day to death because the
hatred was enormous.
Few days later, I opted to dedicate my child by myself: which I did and Ben
was cheesed off.
I did not care about his rants because What I did was very right.
Ben was infuriated because I disobeyed his orders and I did not care if he
was angry I knew that what I did was right.
He always say that women has nothing to offer that they are made for the
kitchen.
I would often reply belligerently and we’d start to argue.
My father had no such mentality. He made sure he trained me in higher
institution before he answered the call of nature.
Although, my mother gave birth to only me,he did not marry another wife and
luckily,he had no brother.
My child was already a year old and needed to enroll in a school. I was
bankrupted and had no money to register her in a school near our estate –
Ben had swore that he would never train her.
I had no paid Job because he instructed that I should stop work immediately
he put me in a family way.
I knew my boss had put someone to occupy the space since I left and going
back there again was a harebrained idea.
My close friends whom I begged to lend me some money all repudiated with
their clock and bull stories.
“What will I do now?” I asked myself as I breathed out heavily.
I was pondering deeply when I came outside and saw Ben’s Old car. He
stopped driving it when he bought the new one– it wasn’t faulty though.
“Yes,This is the answer to my insolvency” I said and smiled broadly.
The neighbor in the other flat recommended an affluent man that bought the
car – I sold it for five hundred thousand naira.
Instantly, I went to the boutique and purchased some new clothes for my
child whose clothes were all torn and worn out.
I also bought fancy shoes and slippers for her.
After I came back from the boutique,I went to the school and registered her.
The school was so big and had a spacious compound with a large football
pitch.
One of my friends were teaching there and she was the one who accompanied
me to the headmaster’s office.
The headmaster was very kind and good to converse with–He wasn’t acerbic.
He gave me full assurance that the teachers will take care of my child
properly….
I left the school smirking confidently because I had achieved my aim. “My
child must be educated” I said in my mind.
Getting to the house, I saw Ben sitting at the long sofa. I was caught
unawares “Honey, why are you at home by this time? What happened?” I
queried.
“I came to take the documents I forgot” he replied.
“Okay darling, you have to go back immediately, I am going to cook your
favorite for dinner” I said as I touched his lips.
“Okay Obi m,I will come back early today” He said and sniggered.
“Wait! Where is my other car? I couldn’t see it outside” Ben asked as he
was about to exit.
“Oh! that car, I’ve sold it” I replied.
“You sold what?” Ben said loudly.
“The car, you know Favour’s clothes are all tattered and she needs to
enroll in a school ” I responded.
“You mean you sold my car because of your daughter? Okay no problems” Ben
said as he departed.
I chuckled as I thought my husband was not angry about it. Forthwith, I
went back to the kitchen and continued cooking.
Some minutes later, my husband entered abruptly with a whip in his hand. I
was still in the kitchen when he called me to come.
I was kinda surprised and I pondered out if my husband got me some gifts.
Immediately I ran out, my husband started hítting me with the braided rope.
“What did I do” I roared painfully.
He did not listen as he kept flógging me like a sheep. I felt much pain
when he battered the whip to my left eye and my waist.
“Ewoooo” I screamed when my child who was crawling fell down from the sofa
hitting her head on the floor–she was asleep when the whole thing started.
She got up and started crying when she was looking at how Ben was thrashing
me with the whip.
Tears was whipping down heavily like a rain from my eyes as I passed out.
To be continued.
