CHAPTER THREE
Alex is a forth son to his father and a second son to his mum. His father is a manager of an oil company and leaves in Yaoundé with his second family, meanwhile his mother had run off and married another man taking him along to her second marriage.
In this second marriage she had two children and a husband who often beat her but she never left him. Alex grew up with the idea that women are meant to submit no matter the difficulties and pain inflicted on them. He grew up watching his mother being beaten at every slide opportunity. Since it was her second Marriage, she was scared of what the society will say and so she decided to remain in the Marriage.
“If I decide to leave this house what will happen to my Children again?.How will people see me? Now I have six children with two men which I married if I leave this one just like I did with the last people will surely Judge me.” she will often say to herself. She will put up with everything just so that she maintains her family. She was beaten all the time, insulted and abused her husband.
She swallowed and endured every pain, little did she know she was grooming her son into a monster and slowly digging her grave. This greatly influenced his life in that he grew up with the culture of abusing and assaulting women. He had no respect for women. He believed so much that every woman should be corrected by beatings and pains as her mum was. This mindset became part of him and he made sure he practiced it with every woman he dated.His mum ended up dying as a result Of the trauma and beatings
His step Father came home one evening very drunk and wasted he got her severely beaten and only discovered in the morning that the woman had died. This happen when he was just fifteen years old his siblings were sent to leave with Their aunt while he was sent to leave with his uncle in the North. Things became even worst his uncle became even more strict with him and his stubborn attitude got worst. Due to the ill treatment, he became even worst
Years had passed now and he was a full grown man but still harbored hatred for his family and the world. He was proud and arrogant. He became an upgraded and modern thief ( scammer).
Despite everything he acted like he was one of the most beautiful and innocent angels of his time whenever he is beside people. He dared not show his ugly side in public least he was hated. Only few people knew him and saw him for who he was. He was a Narcissist and a very manipulative someone. He was known to beat and molest his ex-girlfriends and had no remorse for it.
But well Melo’s Love was blind and deaf she had just become one of his victims.They had dated just four months and she was already going through hell… She, just like other girls had fallen into his trap. She often wondered what made her to love a guy so much as she loved Alex. Like I had earlier said, she was not an easy one. Most of the guys she had been with she often spearheaded the breakup and moved on like nothing happened. She will often tell me she would never cry for any man. But here she was beaten and broken by a man who didn’t deserve her.
We would often argue on the fact that she had surely been charmed by him. She was no longer the girl I knew she had changed and I suspected he had given a charm.The Melo I knew will leave you the moment you started acting too commanding of her
Alex was of one of those vultures in sheep wolfing. He gave her three months of grace, showered her with gifts and Romantic dates. He also went ahead and introduce her to his friends and colleagues. The remaining months were more of torments. He went as far as making her cut ties with her male Friends. he said he did not believe in the policy of girls and boys doing “Bestie” or being friends. Melona tried as much as possible to cut contact but it still did not help matters as he took it as a right. He will go through her phone at will and read all her conversations with her friends to know what she talks about with them about him. He also made sure that he used different numbers to text and tempt her at all cost just to bring up problems, but she never fell on any of his traps. He hacked her phone and to his computer and went through each conversations she had with her friends.
Despite all the threats, she wasn’t ready to cut ties with her friends yet. This were friends she had since her secondary school days. Even if she didn’t text them, they will at some point text her to find out how she’s doing. She tried on several occasions to explain this to him but he did not want to listen to her and will threaten to cheat on her if she ventures to do so. Well the day she came home looking like she was stunk by a bee was just one of those days. She had had a conversation with one of her closed friends who had happened to be her neighbor back in town where her parents lived and Alex had seen the messages and gotten angry.
She did a lot for him but she was never appreciated. He played victim all the time and made her guilty of a crime he committed. He never apologized. He will act up and will strategically manipulate her into believing she was at fault. This was the reason why she remain in the relationship despite the beatings and I’ll treatment. She also believed maybe he will change one day. After few weeks they came back together but Alex was not yet done with his torments.
Melona went for weekend with her parents and was to come back on Tuesday morning since she had a class at 10:00, She spoke with Alex on Sunday and informed him she will be coming on that Tuesday. He said it was ok that he was waiting for her. When Tuesday came she had a friend of hers called Marcus who lived the same quarter as she did and they both went to school in the same University, so he texted her that morning and asked if she was going that morning and she said she yes she will but later not that morning. She did not text Alex to tell him she was coming. When she arrived she took a bike and went school immediately, since she was very late for her class.
Unfortunately for her the bike rider took the road to her Boyfriends shop, and when they were passing through his shop. She didn’t think there was going to be trouble because the guy knew she was coming that day. While passing by the shop, she saw that it was locked and she assumed he was not around. she let the bike rider pass by only to be called by a strange Voice far behind and her.
