I quickly placed an order for an Uber as i got close to bus stand not so far from the eatery.
I was impatient as I waited, I wish the driver will appear immediately and drive me out of this place.
I felt the vibration of my phone, I checked to see who was calling – it’s Maxwell. I couldn’t pick his call, I can’t talk to him in this frame of mind.
The Uber driver finally arrived, I hopped in immediately.
” Madam hope you are ok?” the driver asked with a tone of concern as I wept
” Please just drive. I don’t want to talk”
” Ok. Sorry ma”
He was truly miserable, he made mother’s life miserable and mine as well if not for Maxwell who brought light into mine.
How do I reconcile with a rapist? I don’t know what to do right now, my thoughts are muddled up as I pondered on the recent happenings of my life.
” Madam, we are here”
We are at my house, I got down and walked into the house looking dejected.
I felt like drinking something strong to quench this feeling, I looked at the empty bar that once held different drink, I sighed. Anger is trying to dig up my former attitude
It’s been ages I felt this way. I sat on the sofa, my phone rang again, it was Maxwell. I picked up
” Ruth, where are you?”
” Home”
” I’m coming over” he said angrily
I cared less, I don’t want to talk to anyone. I feel totally lost.
I walked to Ella’s room, she was reading
” Hey! How was your day?”
” Terrible”
” What?” Do care to share”
” I met him”
” Who?”
” My father”
” Have you told him?”
” How can I Ella. Staying close to him was a difficult thing to do”
” I am truly lost on what to say but I think it’s time for you to finally reconcile with everything in your past…”
” Ella, I don’t see him as a father. He left a seed that ruined a life. How do I face him and call him father all these years?”
” Ruth, don’t let resentment becloud you now. Think how far you have come and what glorious future awaits you”
” I can’t fully describe how I feel”
” Just reach out before it’s too late dear. We can’t change the past but we retrace our steps and make a brighter and less regrettable future dear”
I couldn’t say anything, my eyes were fixed on the frame resting on the wall.
There was a knock
” Come in”
” Madam, Mr. Maxwell is here”
” Ok. I’m coming” I replied
” Have you told him?”
” Hell no!”
” You have to. He is your husband to be, you need to free up and be plain with him”
I left for the living room quietly, I met him standing
” How was your client?” He asked looking at me angrily
” Maxwell, I…I”
” You didn’t want me to go with you. You didn’t pick up when I called…”
” I met with my father” I announced
” You did what?”
” Yes, that was who Adaora saw me with. I didn’t know how to tell you about him because I was yet to recover from the revelation and not sure how to tell you about it”
He sat on the couch
” He is….”
” He is yet to know I am his daughter. He is coming on Thursday with my uncle to meet with us. I don’t even know how to face him”
He pulled me to himself
” I truly understand how emotional draining it is for you. I was angry you left to be with another man. My sister called me to tell me she saw you😩…”
” I knew she would”
Where is mother?”
” She is yet to return from the boutique”
I narrated everything to him, only leaving the part where my father was trying to act funny. He listened attentively
” Ruth, just be plain with me, I trust you and I don’t want you to keep things from me. I was really angry when Adaora told me you were with a man having lunch… I just wanted to hear from you before I do anything. I don’t like listening to one side of the story”
” Thanks Maxwell for giving me a chance to explain everything
” What about Ella?’
” She is inside”
We left to her room, she was excited to see us
” Maxwell, you are a great guy” she exclaimed
” And you are a great friend☺️” he said to her
” I just hope Thursday goes well. Mother doesn’t want to meet with him and I don’t if I can face him”
” Thursday is going to be a great day. Ruth don’t let bitterness spoil the plans of God in your life. Forgiveness is an command. It’s never easy but you have to ask God for the grace to let go. I will speak with mother, this reunion lies her healing. ”
” I wish things didn’t turn out this way” I said
” All things work together for good for them that trust the Lord. Allow peace to flourish”
” Ruth listen to Maxwell”
” I really need God’s help here. ” I said
” Joseph forgave his brother and saved his family from hunger. Did you know what he went through those times, it wasn’t easy yet he forgave. You need to forgive him ”
I nodded to his words
” Adaora must have told your parents about everything”
” Don’t worry, we shall fix everything up on Thursdays. My parents accepted you after everything they heard about you, it wasn’t easy at first but your genuine repentance and my talking with them made them give in. As for Ada, I believe on Thursday she will come around’
” You are bringing your family here too?” Ella asked
” Yes. I think we all need to settle every dust so our wedding can move without a hitch. ”
” That’s great” She said
” What do you say about it Ruth?”
” Lord take control🥺🤲” …….I said.
I exhaled deeply, I truly need God’s help on Thursday, I can’t imagine how everything will unfold. How Mr. Udok would react when I get introduced to him as his daughter.
I was a bit worried pondering on it. Ella and Maxwell were teasing me trying to cheer me up, I felt relieved to a great extent.
” Don’t worry I shall talk to mother tomorrow. It’s going to fine” he assured.
It’s a busy Sunday for me please
