Episode 5

Jailed at 39๐Ÿ˜ข

When I discovered that Greg had left town, I was devastated.

Like, why would he do a thing like that to me?
I never had issues with him, infact, the last time he called, we spoke for more than an hour.

My friends mocked me. They had been telling me they don’t like Greg but I thought they were just being jealous.

A year later, my sister linked me up with Akpan, a young business man living in Uyo. I only accepted him because of my sister. I had given up on love. I see men as the devil incarnates.

Poor Akpan!. He suffered for the sins of another.

A year into the marriage, I wasn’t able to give him a child and my mother inlaw was always on my neck.

The woman hated me from the onset because of the tribe difference.

Initially, I thought the fault was from Akpan.I know I had been pregnant three different times before now, so, I couldn’t be barren. I know that. But after, I forced him into going for a fertility test and the result came out positive, I got worried.

“I think you too need to run the test too”. He advised.

After a scan, it was discovered that there is a hole in my womb.

“I’m sorry to ask, ma, but have you been pregnant before?”. The gynecologist asked in the presence of my husband and I shook my head in disagreement.

“It’s strange, because from the result we have here, there has been a damage to your womb and this can only occur as a result of termination of pregnancy which you said you haven’t done… I wonder what other cause”. She said.

At this point, Akpan got up and left and from the way he walked out, I knew that was the end of us.

“What can be done about this?”. I managed to ask.

“Nothing..it has been damaged beyond repair”. She concluded.

I left the hospital with eyes blinded with tears. What have I done to myself?.

Just as expected, my marriage to Akpan ended that very month and I relocated down south.

I got a banking job in Porthacourt and was trying my best to forget my pasts but the, we had a special customer one day.

I was coming out to the banking hall to submit a file when I overheard a familiar voice, gisting with one of our cashiers. That voice sounded so much like Greg’s.

I peeped from the door and it turned out to be him. Even though I was only able to catch a glimpse of his back view, I knew he was the one. And from the way he was laughing with the staff, it was obvious they knew each other too well.

What a small world!.

I crept back to my office and waited patiently for him to take his leave before I approached the cashier. I was sure to get a helpful information from her because the girl talked too much.

“Hello, Ada, that young man you were speaking with earlier, i think I like him oo”. I joked.

“Which young man?, Greg?, please, don’t look that side, dear…she smiled..
….he is taken”. She whispered.

I smiled bitterly.

“He is one of my big customers, he always stayed back here, talking with me, he wouldn’t have gone had it not been that he had to go for school runs”. She was still explaining.

“Wow, he already has a child?” I exclaimed.

“Well, there are now the two of them, his wife recently put to bed”. She said.

“Wow”. I muttered before going back to my office.

That night, I didn’t sleep a wink.

Greg is happily married with children while I am left with nothing but broken heart and damaged womb. I cried

After a long night, I came to a conclusion that I was going to avenge myself.

He can’t take away my peace and still be enjoying his. If I must go down, Greg is definitely coming with me. I had sworn…
