Episode 4

Jailed at 39๐Ÿ˜ข

Immediately Damilola was revived from her shock, the first thing she did was to call the police on Ruth and the security man, Mustapha.

She believed it was either Ruth poisoned the food herself or the security guy had opened the gate for the intruder.

“Toture them until they confessed who it was they had connived with to poison my kids….my children”. She sobbed.

The corpses were deposited at the morgue for their father’s return.

Dami fell sick and Lola and I were the only ones available to nurse her. She is an only daughter and her mom is late.

On the second week, when she announced that her husband will be coming home in two days time, I faked a call that my favorite uncle, who was just like a father to me was very sick and demands my presence.

“You can go, dear, life first”. Damilola sympathized.

I left very early the next morning.

I traveled down to Uyo to cool off at my sister’s.

I was glad I finally did it. After all these years.

Now the story

Greg and I met in the Lagos State University. I was in my first year while he was in his third then.

We got talking and after sometimes, he made his intentions known to me.

I made it clear to him that I won’t be dating him. Reason being that the age difference wasn’t encouraging att all. He was just a year older than I am.

“I love my men at least six years older”. I confessed

He found my argument rather funny.

“Age is just a number”. He had said.

After some weeks of constant preaching, I decided to give it a try, but before I knew what I was doing, I fell deeply in love with him.

He showed me so much love and attention. Though, he doesn’t have much, but he made sure, I lacked nothing. We became the gossip of the campus.

Before he graduated, I had had an abor#ion for him because none of us was ready to face responsibility.

He got a job as soon as he was out of school and was doing very well.I do visit him once in a while.

I took in again in my final year. Thinking he was going to accept the responsibility then, I excitedly broke the news to him over the phone but his response shocked me ๐Ÿ‘‡

“I will transfer you some money to get rid of it”.

I was angry and disappointed at the same time.

I traveled down to his place the next day to confront him
but he sure had a way of making me loose guard.

I finally accepted to get rid of it for the second time.

Three years after I graduated, he was still not serious about taking our relationship to the next level and whenever I brought up the topic, he waved it off.

During that period, I got so many proposals but I ended up turning them down. All because of Greg.

My people were worried about me. My sister even recommended me to one of her friends’ brother. The guy was doing very well in Uyo then, but I told her I was going to pray over it.

By praying over it, I mean discussing the matter with Greg.

While we were happily talking that night, I brought up the topic , he got angry and hung the phone on me.

I had to call my sister the next morning to apologize that I won’t be accepting the proposal. She was very mad at me.

I got pregnant the third time. He still talked me into abor#ing it, promising that our marriage was going to happen the next year, unfailingly.

But the year didn’t end before he stopped calling or texting me for days and when I tried calling, his line would be either switched off or unavailable. This continued for a week till the day I went down to his place and discovered that he had moved out…
