EPISODE 8.
π (UNPREDICTED LOVE) π
(C) Judytex_Stories.
From Deji’s point of view.
Haven grown up in a very poor home, I swore to myself that I would never have anything to do with poverty in my life again. And that’s why I went after Roseline.
My relationship with her has allowed me to get connections and improve financially. I know what I’m doing is wrong, but trust me, I’ve come too far to give up now.
And when Roseline met me at the entrance to the company building that morning to tell me about her father’s consent to our marriage, I felt guilty in my heart as I turned to see the shock and pain in Annabelle’s eyes. The guilt in my heart didn’t let me look her in the eyes, so I had to look away quickly to avoid her gaze.
But deep down I knew that I had failed her miserably and that she didn’t deserve the pain and suffering I was causing her.
Fearing that one day Annabelle would tell the truth and ruin my plans, I decided to speak to her in my office that same morning.
And when she came I tried to threaten her to leave the company but Annabelle was adamant that she was not going anywhere. And while we were discussing the subject, she asked me if I had ever loved her.
The truth is, yes, I genuinely loved Annabelle when we were at school. She was a sweet, caring, humble, and considerate young lady who genuinely loved me with all that was in her. And I doubt I’ll find anyone who will genuinely love me and treat me like she did. But alas, in the end, love can’t pay my bills, so I chose money.
When she asked that question, I had to lie that I never loved her. Yes, it wasn’t easy saying those hurtful words to her because I know she would be hurt by my answer.
And what Annabelle didn’t know was that I was planning to return to her and my son after I have achieved my goal. I just wish she can understand me and play along.
To make matters worse, she went on to ask if our son was not a product of love but her stupidity and my deceit.
Unfortunately, at that point, I was dying to say something to get her to leave the company. That was why I said yes.
But when she left, I regretted everything I said.
I had intentionally put a heavy workload on her to get her to leave the company. But when I went home that night, my conscience would not let me sleep. I kept wondering what must have happened to her.
So after getting confirmation from the security man that she was still at the company at that time of the night, I quickly went over to apologize and tell her to go home. But as I approached the marketing department, I saw her and Raymond laughing together.
When I saw them together, anger and jealousy suddenly ran down my spine. Yes, I haven’t been good to her lately, but I never expected her to move on to another man so soon.
“Are they just colleagues or is there something going on between them?” I wondered.

flashback.
From the Writer’s point of view.
While everyone else was preparing to wrap up the day’s work, Raymond noticed how Annabelle was still struggling with the task assigned to her.
He went to her desk and asked:
“Aren’t you going home today?”
“I’ve been asked to go through all these documents and come back with the final result tomorrow morning. So I definitely won’t be going home on time today,” she said, with her eyes fixed on the document in her hand.
“What about Jasper? Won’t he stay awake and wait for you to come back?” Raymond asked.
“I already told Keturah to help him get to sleep early,” she replied.
“Keturah? Who is that?” Raymond asked.
“She’s my best friend from the university,” Annabelle replied.
“Oh, okay, is she staying at your house right now?” he asked.
“It is the opposite. We are squatting with her in the meantime,” Annabelle replied with a smile.
“Oh I see… so how about I give you a little help? You know, two heads are better than one,β Raymond said with a big smile.
“Sure. If you don’t mind,” Annabelle replied.
And so he finally helped Annabelle in carrying out the task that was assigned to her. And while going through the documents together, they both took the opportunity to get to know each other better.
“Tell me, how did you know Roseline? I thought you were new here like all of us,β Annabelle said.
“Well the truth is, Roseline and I are cousins,” Raymond revealed.
“Really?” she asked in disbelief.
“Yes,” Raymond replied with a nod.
“Then how come you ended up working in the marketing department instead of having a higher position?” Annabelle asked.
“It’s because I want to learn everything from scratch. And most of all, I want to be free with everyone. I don’t want a situation where people are afraid to voice their views in front of me because my uncle runs this company. I just want to conceal my identity. That way I can easily learn a thing or two from people,” Raymond said.
“It’s quite strange and surprising. Poor people will do anything to prove they are rich. While rich people do everything they can to hide their wealth and identity. What a contradictory life it is,” Annabelle said.
βEveryone has their pattern of dealing with the affairs of life. That is by the way. So tell me, how did you and your baby daddy meet?” Raymond asked.
Annabelle, not expecting the question, gave him a quick look.
“Why? Did I ask a question I shouldn’t have asked?” Raymond asked.
“Not really,” Annabelle replied with sadness in her heart.
“Okay, I’m all ears then,” Raymond said.
Annabelle being left with no choice, had to open up to him. She told him everything that had happened between her and her baby daddy. And in the end, Raymond sympathized with her.

Presently.
When Deji saw the two of them laughing and chatting while working together, he turned around in silence and left.
At exactly 11 p.m., they both finished the task. After that, Raymond dropped Annabelle off at her house.
βThank you so much for your help today at work, and for dropping me off. I really appreciate your kind deeds towards me,β Annabelle said as soon as the car stopped in front of her gate.
“It’s nothing. Just go in and get some rest,” Raymond said with a smile.
But when Annabelle tried to remove the seat belt, she found out it refused to unbuckle.
“What’s going on?” Raymond asked as soon as he noticed her struggling with the seat belt.
“I can’t take this off,” she said, still struggling with it.
“All right, let me help you,” Raymond said, leaning forward to help.
As he leaned forward, Annabelle’s eyes fell on his perfectly formed jaw, lips, eye, and facial structure. His face was so close to hers that she had to look elsewhere to avoid getting carried away.
“It’s done,” Raymond said, leaning back in his seat.
“Thank you. And have a good night sleep,” Annabelle said as she got out of the car.
“See you tomorrow at work,” Raymond said, waving at her.
Annabelle, who had previously informed Keturah to keep the gate open for her, walked through the gate while Raymond drove away.
Early the next day at work, Annabelle knocked on Deji’s office door.
“Yes, come in,” Deji said, looking at his computer system.
Annabelle opened the door and entered after which, she closed the door behind her.
She walk up to Deji and dropped the result of the task assigned to her on his office desk.
“This is the result of the task you gave me, sir,” she said.
Hearing this, Deji took his eyes off his computer system and picked up the files from his desk. Then he flipped through the pages and asked.
“Are you sure no one helped you with this task?” he asked.
“Does that really matter right now?” Annabelle asked in disbelief.
“Why doesn’t it matter when I told you to do it alone? It was a simple instruction Annabelle,β he fumed.
Hearing this, Annabelle simply scoffed and said.
“Your complaint should be either that I didn’t do the task well, or that I didn’t turn it in on time as you instructed, not all these childish complaints you are dishing out here,” Annabelle said.
“Okay, then let me get straight to the point. What’s your relationship with Raymond?” Deji asked, leaning back in his seat.
“Why? I mean, what has that got to do with you anyway?” Annabelle asked with a shrug.
“It has everything to do with me, Annabelle. If not for anything, but for the fact that you are the mother of my sonβ, Deji fumed slamming his hand on the table.
And when Annabelle heard this, she burst out laughing.
“Mother of what son? Please stop this Joke Deji. I don’t remember having a child for you. And you have no right to question my relationship with other men. I am a single woman and it is only right that I mingle with single men. I guess you are satisfied with the result of the task as you couldn’t raise any questions about it. So if you will excuse me, I have other things to attend to,” Annabelle said.
And hastily she Yizef stories shook her butt and walked out of the office, slamming the door behind her.
“Argh!” Deji yelled, slamming his clenched fist on the table.
Later in the day, Jasper’s teacher called. And when Annabelle ended the call, the look on her face showed that all was not well.
“Hey, you look worried. What’s going on?” Raymond asked.
“It’s Jasper,” she replied in a sad tone.
“What about him? Is he unwell or something?” Raymond asked.
“No, his school teacher just called to say the lady who usually watches him until Keturah comes and picks him up, had to leave very early cause something came up. So right now, I am expected to pick Jasper up from school earlier than usual,” Annabelle said.
“I see… So you are worried because you are busy with work, and can’t go right?” Raymond asked.
“Exactly,” Annabelle replied.
“Okay, just give me the direction of the school and the phone number of the school teacher so I can help you pick him up from school,” Raymond said.
“Really?” Annabelle asked in shock.
“Yes. Jasper is my friend, remember?” Raymond asked with a smile.
“But where are we going to keep him? You know it is not advisable to bring him here,” Annabelle said.
“Don’t worry about that. I will personally take care of him until work closes,” Raymond assured.
“Thank you, Raymond,” Annabelle said happily.
A few hours later, Raymond drove to Ebun’s school. And after confirming that it was Annabelle who sent Raymond, the school teacher released Ebun to go with Raymond.
Immediately Ebun saw Raymond waiting for him, he ran towards him and embraced him with joy in his heart.
And without hesitation, Ebun held Raymond’s hand and pulled him towards his other buddies, who were always fond of bragging about their father to him.
“Look, my daddy is here. I think I told you I had a daddy too and you said it was a lie,” he kept telling gleefully to any of his buddies who cared to listen to him.
His excitement knew no bounds when he stepped out of the school gate and found out that Raymond had brought his car with him. He kept yelling and bragging to his buddies that his dad also owned a car.
Seeing his reaction made Raymond emotional. He fell in love all over again with the little boy.
When they finally got to the company, Raymond, not wanting Ebun to distract his mother, continued playing with him in the waiting room.
A few moments later, Raymond got a call, and while he was on the phone, Ebun left the waiting room and started wandering around the company until finally, he found his way into Deji’s office.
Deji, who was with Roseline at the time, was surprised when his door swung open and a little boy walked in, looking around confused.
“How did a kid get inside this business premises?” Roseline asked in astonishment.
“Good afternoon ma. Good afternoon sir. Can you please take me to my daddy? I can’t find him again,β Ebun pleaded with tears in his eyes.
“Who exactly is your daddy and how did you even get in here?” Roseline exclaimed in disbelief.
Just then, Raymond barged in and carried Ebun, placing his head on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry guys. He lost his way” he said, turning to Roseline and Deji, both of whom were shocked, surprised, and curious.
“Whose child is he?” Deji asked.
“He’s Annabelle’s son. I was playing with him in the waiting room before he left my sight,β Raymond replied.
Deji’s heart sank immediately he heard this.
“He’s Annabelle’s son?” he managed to ask, with his heart beating faster.
