We waited for Maxwell on Ella insistence.
” Ruth, no one can stop God’s plan. Don’t you ever forget that”
” I just don’t want drama. I want peace”
” It’s ok dear”
Just then Maxwell drove in close to where we were.
” Ruth calm down and don’t act funny. ”
He got down from his car smiling
” Ella, good morning dear☺️.”
” Good morning doc”
” Good morning Ruth”
” Good morning sir”.
He was taken aback by my response and the change in my countenance
” Is anything the matter?🤔”
” Can we get going?” I asked, wheeling Ella to the car
” Ok” he said
He was trying to understand the sudden change
We both helped Ella in the car, I tried to join her but she gave me a nasty look indicating I should go see in the front.
I just couldn’t face him and sitting next to him would be difficult but I had to.
He was trying to get me talking but my response was monosyllabic. Ella tried to brighten the mood but I wasn’t having it.
He stopped abruptly at a place, looking around we haven’t reached our destination
” Ruth, what’s wrong?”😩
” Nothing”
” Don’t do that. We had a pleasant conversation last night before I left and this morning we spoke well, so what’s the attitude for?”
” I’m not feeling too well. ”
” Since when? Or my arrival prompted your sudden illness”
” Maxwell, it’s your sister” Ella said
” Ada?”
” Yes”
Turning to her,
” What happened?”
” She came in this morning confronting Ruth about our past”
” What?”
Ella narrated all that happened to Maxwell
Hid gaze shifted to me
” Ruth”
” I don’t want any drama Maxwell”
” You couldn’t open up to me. You are trying to conceal it. You are unbelievable”
” Maxwell…”
” Ella, Ruth doesn’t trust me enough to open up to me”
” Not so, I am not just cut in for any drama Maxwell. It’s been a rough path for me and this…”
” Haven’t I been supportive enough?”
” Of course you have been”
” Then why did you try to conceal what transpired in your house? So, if Ella didn’t open up to me you would keep it in your heart”
I could tell he was disappointed by me action moreso angry.
” I’m sorry”
” Look at me Ruth, I am not a child. I love you and I want you to be free with me. Adaora is my sister, yes but she isn’t dictating my life for me. Not her and certainly not anyone.”
” Maxwell is ok” Ella retorted
He brought the engine back to life and drove in silence. I felt guilty, I was angry and tried to push it on him
We drove into cedars hospital, he parked under a tree
” Maxwell, I am sorry” I said as soon as he switched off the ignition
He looked at me for some minutes, held my hands
” Ruth, please don’t do such again. If something is bothering you let it out, I am no stranger😩”
I nodded like a child
” I won’t do it again”
” It’s ok”
” Ok lovers, can we go in biko?” Ella teased as Maxwell hugged me
We laughed, I got down to get the wheelchair and together we helped her into it.
Maxwell wheeled Ella following my lead. We arrived mother’s room
She looks better this morning. A nurse was attending to her, she looked at us as we approached her
” Good morning ma’ Ella greeted followed by Maxwell
” Good morning mother’
” Good morning” she replied
” This is Ella my friend, Maxwell my fiance”
” You are all welcome”
” How are you feeling ma” Maxwell inquired
” I’m fine”
” You will be fine mother” Ella added
” Thank you all”
The nurse left, she sat up and exhaled deeply
” I’m glad to see you here. Maxwell, thank you. Ruth told me everything you did for her. I don’t know where to start but I am grateful she met you😩”
” It’s ok ma. We thank God for everything and wish you quick recovery”
” Ella, so nice meeting you, Ruth has found a sister and friend in you”
” I’m grateful our part crossed. ”
” Ruth my child I can’t redo everything I did to you but I hope you find it in your heart to consider me your mother. I allowed bitterness becloud me” she cried
Maxwell went to her held her hands
” It’s ok. ”
” I have forgiven you mother☺️” I assured her
” I wish I can erase those terrible times I wronged you. I even had you thrown in jail. Ruth I am.. ”
” It’s ok. It’s all in the past”
” Mama we are here for you” Ella added
” Yes” I said
” I don’t deserve your kind gesture Ruth”
” God gave me and gave me another chance. Who am I to deny one a chance to repent?”
She wept hugging us one after the other.
” Where is Reuben?”
” He hasn’t visited me since I was brought in here. I don’t want to go back to that hell of a marriage. My sister has gone to pack my things. I have suffered terribly at his hands. My body bares the scars of his abuse. ”
I was infuriated by mother’s revelation; that beast deserve to rot in jail.
” You can follow us to our house ma” Ella opined
I nodded in agreement
” I don’t deserve to stay under your roof’
I stood from the seat and sat by her side
” No matter what you remain my mother. I don’t bear any grudge against you anymore. I understand everything you went through because of my father. You are my mom and we can build this bond ”
She hugged me tightly
” God bless you my child” she whispered to me
Maxwell and I met with the doctor, he said mother was free to go. So, she was discharged.
We took to our house, having called our house help to make arrangements for her.
I was truly feel from the dungeon of pains. I was grateful to God for Maxwell.
Ella was happy with the turn of event; it was a great reunion for both of us.
She made the house lively with her playfulness.
I thanked Maxwell a thousand times for making my life whole again.

It’s four days mother moved in with us; my aunt brought her belongings to our house two days ago.
She was surprised and happy for mother and I. She left yesterday for Abuja.
Mother and I are getting along well, I opened my heart towards giving us a chance to bond well.
She is a lovely person I realized, bitterness engulfed that part totally due to rape.
Today is Sunday, we are preparing for service today.
I have missed choir rehearsals severally, so I would be joining mother and Ella in the crowd.
After our morning devotion, we had breakfast, mother helped Ella dress up while I got prepared my self.
All set we headed for service, the joy in my heart has no boundary even a blind man could feel it🙈.
The ride to church was joyous, Ella of course was handling talk. Mother chipped in at some point.
We were in high spirit as we got to church.
Today’s service was impactful, the Choir ministered wonderfully, the drama was impactful. Maxwell’s brother delivered his sermon mightily which was centered on ” Reconciliation”.
Everything was going fine and smooth during the service.
Soon service came to end, Maxwell met us.
” I want you all to meet my family today. My parents are eager to meet you ma ” he informed
Mother was delighted by Maxwell words
” My future inlaws” she said
” Yes o” Ella added
I am happy to have my family around me today in church, we walked behind Maxwell as he led us to his father’s office..
