It’s been weeks after Anita left,
the pains were still felt each time we think about her. Anita is the sweetest amongst us, her absence affects everyone in here; Sandra has been in a sour mood since that day as she hoped that Anita would get a different sentence other than death. Helen’s case ended with twenty years imprisonment, at least she gets to live unlike Anita.
Each morning we go out for our daily drill Anita’s absence is felt more as it was her who made the whole activity less cumbersome by her playful nature. Anita will forever be in our heart🥺🤎.
After today’s drill, we had our breakfast of sour pap and poorly cooked beans

Kris bloated out

We all laughed at her funny facial expressions that portrayed the effect of the food as it hit her buds.

” That one na em be the worst sef” I interjected
” Today breakfast no be here. Chai when I dey chop life ehn. If i catch that cook I go beat. Which kind food be this” Kris added

” E be like say Dem get strength today. Since wey Anita leave us na silence we dey no body complain for the food. Today own better that moi moi wey we chop two days ago naso Ella and Sandra sleep for toilet Helen use mess waste pepsin life. Dem for admit me for emergency unit if no be God”😩

We laughed so loud as we recall that day, it was funny how we all took turns visiting the rest room.
” This is the first time we are laughing this hard since Anita left us to the other side” Helen said with a tone of sadness
The room went still as our faces turn pale at the thought of her.
” Hah! Make God no let us die because of man🤲”
Sandra yelled
” Hmmm. Fine woman like her the husband no try at all. His sister in-law for that matter” Helen continued
” Make una no spoil today wey our heart don dey clear small small. Make we enjoy this time together who knows e fit be like last supper??. Pesin fit leave us again the next minute but no be like Anita own Sha” Kris opined
We ate cheerfully as we recall the good times we spent, the troublesome warders and about what we hoped the future would bring.
After meal we retired to our section, we played, conversed and had a good time. I felt relieved from the fangs of sorrow that held me up since the day Anita left.

We both rised to our feet as the officers called our name, one of the officer was smiling

I exhaled deeply, Ella and I both leaving the same day. We both hugged we each as the tears flow freely

Today is indeed our last supper with family. This month has been roller coaster, first Anita left us beyond, Helen sentence would keep her for twenty years and now Ella and I are finally leaving this walls
The tears started flowing again as we hugged each other for what seems like the last time.
” So na Kris, Kate and Sandra una want leave me with” Helen queried smiling with tears dripping down
” Make una dey remember us o” Kate spoke out while sniffing
” Una go Still commot for here” Ella assured them.
” Twenty years no be twenty days. My last baby fit done marry by then” Helen bloated out in tears😥.
She doesn’t speak of her family, how shocked we were when we learned she has kids.
” No worry ehn at least you get to leave Anita didn’t get the chance” I consoled her
We hugged each other again and bade them good bye. Good bye is the hardest thing to say those dear to you.
We followed the warders as we wiped or tears and smile at the shouts of other inmates wishing us farewell.
We finished all the necessary formalities with the officers, they admonished us sarcastically as they set us free.
As soon as the last gate was opened, we inhaled the fresh air that greeted our nostrils. I raised my hands up in air then spread it out. Nothing taste better than the taste of freedom🥰.
I turned back looking at the gates that hindered my freedom for the past two years shook my head and smiled☺️.
Ella was busy saying jumping around, as if it’s her first time seeing the outside world. She jumped back to my side and held me tightly.
” I know you wondering where to go from here don’t worry I got plans for you sister” she assured me
I just smiled as I stood speechless looking around the surroundings like a lost child trying to figure her way home. I’m free at last🤲💃🥰
