” Ruth hope you are good? I tried calling you but your line was unreachable. See you soon love” Reuben text read. Why can’t he just get the memo, I don’t want him around plus mother would kill me if anything happens between us. Besides, I have no feelings for this man. My heart beats for Ade, and now I can’t help this feeling burning for him.
I’m in a different world, Ade is my world he is the light shinning through the dark part of my life. I reminisce over what happened today, I smiled in satisfaction and the words Ade whispered to me were playing in my head. It was a memorable day for us and a new phase of our relationship. I slept happily while dreaming of Ade.
I don’t feel like leaving my bed this morning, my alarm clock is so annoying, snoozing every minute. It sure wants to ruin my sweet mood this morning. Ha! I jumped out of the bed, Ade said he will be traveling today. I need to call him, I wish I could change his mind from traveling; I just want to spend my day in his arms. Picking up the phone, I dialed his number trice there was no response. Probably he is packing up I thought, so I sent him a text.
I was done with chores preparing for work when I head a knock, who could that be I thought. Walking reluctantly towards the door,
‘ who is that?’ I asked but no response, I sighed and opened the door to see Reuben standing in front of me
” Good morning Ruth”
” Good morning sir” I said grumpily. I shifted for him to enter latching the door as he passed me
” where were you yesterday?”
‘Sir…Wo..work”
” You lie Ruth”
” I beg your pardon”
” You left early I was told, I came by to check on you but I met a closed door. So, where were you last night?”
” It’s no business of yours. My aunt never told you to babysit me besides why trying to act like you concerned about me plus I old enough to do what I like”
” Hahaha. Really? Yet you shrink under your aunt. You are taking advantage of her absence to gallivant around town with small useless boys”
“Reuben! What’s wrong with you and what’s your point exactly? Besides, I am about leaving for work. So, I will appreciate it if you leave”
” You have got some guts. How about I inform your aunt about yesterday?”
I became stiff, I lost any atom of boldness I thought I had in me to face him off but with that statement I became cold as ice
” Hmmm. I went for a friend’s birthday party😔. That’s all.”
” Is that so Ruth?” He said while touching my face, I feel irritated by that but I couldn’t do anything.
” Yes. My aunt doesn’t let me go out. Please, don’t mention a word of this to her” I motioned with my hands
” I love you Ruth, I don’t want to see you sad” he said while caressing my skin, I felt holes in my skin, I shrugged as he tried to kiss me.
” Sir, I need to go”
” Stop this sir, I am Reuben call me that or better still Reubby. It’s ok. I will drop you off’
I exhaled as I went into my room to pick my bag, Reuben was waiting for me in his car. Putting of the switch, closing the doors and windows, I joined him in his car.
He drove in silence within few minutes he came to a halt at our shop.
” I will see you tomorrow. I have got some work to do, I won’t be chance by evening hence I decided to see you this morning”
” Ok”
I was about to open the door when he called out my name in soft voice.
‘ you are just leaving’
I was lost, what am I supposed to do? Bow to touch his feet like I see in India movies? I was still figuring out what to do when he leaned further and kissed me. I didn’t know what to do but I felt repulsive. He handed me some cash, I thanked him and alighted from the car.
” Ruth Ruth’ my fellow apprentice were hailing me as got into the shop.
” See the kind ride wey carry you come. See levels. Omo you gat show us this your bobo😌”

” Hmm. I hear, like so e dey start. You dey falm for that Ade abi, girl shie your eye make you no leave car enter caterpillar”
I just walked to my space not wanting to continue with the conversation. I thought of Ade, he has neither call nor acknowledge my text. I called again no response, probably he is still feeling ready.
It’s almost closing hours, Ade has not call nor text. It’s unlike him except for when we had issues. I thought he should be calling me, asking about my night and telling me how much he loves and adores me after what happened yesterday – that’s what I hear most girls say after their sleeping with their lovers. Ayo didn’t come to work, I could have asked him if he saw or spoke to Ade.
I felt restless, Is he now so busy he couldn’t call nor text me before he leaves, I called again and on the second call he picked
” I have been calling you but you weren’t picking. Have you left for Abuja” I said worriedly like a mother who is speaking to her lost -found child.
” Hey this girl, you never satisfied with yesterday. Abeg no call me again. You be my mama ni? No dey disturb me with this unnecessary call jare I no dey miss??😠.”
I was shocked to my bones, I checked my phone to be sure it was Ade’s number and I saw ‘My Happiness’ on the screen confirming it was Ade’s number. Probably someone else picked up
‘ Please give the phone to my boyfriend, Ade. Tell him is Ruth😩”
” Haha see maga o. Boyfriend ni, Ruth or what ever you call yourself don’t hitch your self on me. Whatever we did was mutual both parties enjoyed. Go help your miserable low life, you think I would date a timid and an illiterate like you. You are way to sub standard for me, you are not my class. You must be grinning thinking you have met your prince in shinning armour. Well, you are just a game to me and I have taken my game so you are game. Wise up little girl.”
The call disconnected before I could reply. My heart was beating fast, I could feel my head p******g and sweet reeking out of my skin. Am I dreaming. Oh this is a nightmare, I pinched myself to confirm it was really. My eyes became a pool of water and my cheeks a running stream. My breathing became heavy. I couldn’t see clearly anymore.
This is some sort of prank I thought, I hurriedly picked up my things and ran home to m**n my miserable self😭😭
