Today is Ade’s birthday, I am excited. I am finally going to show him how much I love him on his birthday. Mr Hassan travelled for his father’s burial two days ago, there is no much work to do. he assigned us some task to keep us busy before he returns. I did mine since yesterday, I took the whole of the day to carry out the task; I don’t want to be exhausted today, I really want to Ade show how much he means to me. I sent him a text at dawn, also informed him I would be coming later in the day.
I left work a bit early, I went home to get dressed. I planned on wearing the dress Reuben got for me in his birthday. I don’t have much fancy dress after all. i took my bath, dressed immediately, and I applied powder on my face, and Vaseline on my lips. I wore a white high heels, one of Reuben’s gift. I smiled at the image in the mirror with satisfaction. I look pretty and the thought of Ade made me feel prettier.
everything is all set and good, the sweet breeze of the night made me feel relax. I flagged down a taxi; after negotiating price, I hopped in. Soon we came to a halt at the black rusty gate.
I walked quietly through the stairs, getting to Ade’s flat, I inhaled deeply; I hope he would be pleased seeing me. I knocked on the door twice before it was opened revealing a smiling Ade
‘ I am glad you came. ” he said while scanning me head to toe, with a smiling face. I knew I
dressed attractively, as the dress accentuated every part of my body.
He reached out for my hands and led me inside the beautiful parlor. There wasn’t any decoration to indicate there is a birthday celebration, but for a soft music playing from the theater.
” Happy birthday to you dear. Many more years ahead. I want you to know I truly love you, Ade.”
” Thanks Ruth. I love you too, you are special to me and I can’t trade you for anything in this world”
” I am sorry I couldn’t get you a gift”
” Ruth, your presence in my house is the best gift ever. I am not moved by material things but your heart. I want you to be mine”
I felt shy looking at him, this shyness is different from how I feel with Reuben. I am so in love with this guy. Mother said I am worthless yet Ade finds me lovable. she said no one could ever love but here I am being consumed by love, I couldn’t help this overwhelming feeling rising in me as I thought about the horrible things mother labelled me as. I got so emotional, a tear escaped my eyes and before I could wipe it off, Ade did with his lips. I felt different when his lips hit my face, before I could recover, he was all over me. whispering sweet words in my ears, aha Ruth! I felt lost in this world.
A part of me tried to resist, but the other part made me feel weak. I fell helplessly for his touch, and my virginity became history.
” This is the best birthday gift ever” he smiled at me.
I could tell he was satisfied with pleasure. I felt I lost something inside me, but I smiled back. I’m glad we were back together and I gave him something I considered precious. We cuddled, the sweet breeze from the large window made me feel relax and I was embraced by the hands of sleep.
I woke up, my visions were blur, I blinked severally to clear my eyes. Ade was no longer hold me, standing up I looked around for him but he was no where to be found. I dressed up and walked to his room, I found him dressing
” Hey Ruth. you are awake, I didn’t want to disturb you while you slept beautifully. sleeping beauty. ”
I blushed at his words, so loving to my ears.
” it’s late Ade, I need to leave”
” Yes dear. I will travelling tomorrow morning”
‘ where to?”
‘ To Abuja’
‘ wow. how long would you be staying’
‘ Oh! you are missing me already. well dear, I can’t tell for now but I keep in touch. Don’t miss me too much’
I felt bad, what’s happening but I smiled at him as he hugged me and kissed my forehead. I’m so in love with this guy.
” Please, don’t stay long”
“awwn, as soon as I am done with my project in Abuja, I will be with you”
” ok”
He saw me off to my place, we bade goodbye. I opened the gate to our building, the I felt something, it was my phone vibrating. who could be calling I thought. Ignoring the call I walked through the stairs got to our flat. Thank goodness there is light, I feel hungry. I need to microwave the left over in the fridge.
I took my bath after eating I remembered I missed a call. I retrieve it from my purse to check the caller, it was mom. My heart sank, why was she calling, I thought. I called back
” Hello, good evening ma”
” Evening to yourself. Ruth, where have you been?”
” Ehn. Work”
” You foolish girl, work? Didn’t you see my call”
” I was busy’
” Anyways, I want you to clean up my room”
” Are you coming back tomorrow?”
” You must be stupid for asking me such question”
That being said she hung up, I thought Reuben said she would spend an extra two weeks and it just a week. well, I am relieved, I thought she found about my visit to Ade. I exhaled deeply next a message popped up in my phone, it was Reuben…
