LIFE IMPRISONMENT 31
WRITTEN BY: GRACE OLAYEMI
Danger lost his peace after Abraham’s visit and his heart could not stop ruminating over everything he told him. Especially the second story Abraham told him. He didn’t see being religious the way Abraham painted it and it had never occurred to him that his way of life was a statement of ingratitude to God.
He didn’t really pay much attention to all he heard while he went to church with his mother. And since everything had happened the way it happened, his heart had been completely severed away from praying, giving, have you checked coolvalstories today?? going to church and other church related activities they practiced.
He tried to sleep that night but sleep eluded him and he didn’t have the best of time coming face to face with the memories he had tried so hard to forget. It was as though the lawyer’s story brought everything back afresh and his heavy heart longed for rest. He had carried that burden for too long and the weight had deadened his heart. He could only feel hatred, hurt and betrayal. Joy was a foreign word in his life and he seldom laughed except under the influence of alcohol.
He finally dozed off but the terror continued in his sleep. He saw all manner of terrifying things in his sleep and it was as though he would drop dead the next minute. He had never being afraid of death or anything but that time, fear took over his entire being and he shook with great terror. He sat awake till day break and continued to endure the torture of his thought and his past evil deeds coming alive to him. He sent for Abraham immediately and the latter who had spent the night praying that God would touch Danger’s heart, visit and show him the way to the cross, hurriedly got ready to see him.
“I need help,” Danger said immediately he sighted Abraham and broke into tears.
Abraham had the uttermost pleasure of leading Danger to Christ.
“There is no one Jesus cannot save. There is no extent of rottenness in a life that God cannot make new. Thank you, Jesus.” He said to himself ecstatically.
He prayed for and with him and spent the entire day sharing the word with him and for the first time since he had known Danger, he saw him smile genuinely with obvious joy oozing out of his being.
“Is this why God wanted me to handle this case? Thank you, Lord that I didn’t disobey you. This is my wife’s lost brother and now my convert to the glory of God.”

“I think the right thing for me to do is to confess all my crimes and plead guilty. I also need to publicly apologize to everyone in this city for causing them so much pain and heartache,” Danger said to Abraham the next day when the latter visited him.
“That’s good.” Abraham brought out his tape recorder and signaled to Danger to start talking.
He told him of his secret accounts both in the country and outside the country. All the houses he had, his hideouts, the covenant he did with his guys which made them die when they wanted to sell him out, His sponsors, customers and every other crime related things he had done in life.
Fear gripped Abraham at the names of highly placed people in the society that were connected with Danger. His sponsors and the ones he was doing dirty jobs for were top politicians and popular figures. He started perspiring and the sweats could fill a large bucket to the brim.
“ No wonder he was always escaping the hands of the law. No wonder he could stay hidden for many years. No wonder… no wonder…” He continued to analyse Danger’s confession in his brain.
Abraham didn’t know how to handle the truth he was hearing and at some point he felt probably Danger was making things up but he had second thoughts and knew that whether in totality or in passive, those people had something to do with Danger.
He was overwhelmed by all he heard and he started praying for wisdom to handle it. The case was already taking a new turn and he knew that if Danger should mention those people’s names, they might kill him to shut him up. He knew there was no escape root for Danger and the only thing to do was to plead for a lighter sentence.
He was also afraid because those people that gave the case to his boss were part of the people sponsoring Danger and sending him on evil errands. He knew there was no way the case could end successfully and that led him to a serious prayer session as the date of the court appearance drew near.
