Motherhood episode 11

Motherhood πŸ’žπŸ’ž Part 11

FIVE YEARS LATER

“Judith stop climbing that chair, you will fall down”. I said to Judith.

My baby girl is grown now. We celebrated her fifth birthday some months ago. She’s very hyper. Sometimes I get tired of scolding her.

Jude walked into the house looking really tired and exhausted.

“Welcome darling. You look so tired. The tutorial must have been really draining”. I said to Jude.

“Draining is an understatement mummy. I can’t wait to finally gain admission so that I can rest from this tiring tutorials”. Jude said as he sat lazily on the couch.

“Medicine is no jokes, you need to study really hard to score high in both JAMB and POST-UTME. Well, I trust you or is it not you again?”. I asked teasingly.

“Mummy I’m so hungrrry”. Jude cried out.

“Microwave some rice for yourself. By the way, where is Julius and Eunice?”. I asked curiously.

“Julius left before the end of the tutorial. Eunice was still chatting with her friends, I was so hungry to wait for her”. Jude said as he rushed to the kitchen to get food.

“Judith! I said stop climbing! Stop making me scream!”. I shouted.

Judith started crying. I had to carry her to pacify her.

Eunice walked in 1:30mins later.

“Good evening ma”. She greeted.

“Why did you stay so long at the tutorial?”. I asked.

“I was explaining a topic to…”. She stuttered.

“You always have something to say Eunice! Be careful”. I warned.

She went into the kitchen and dished food for herself.

I was preparing dinner and Eunice was still inside her room doing what I don’t know. She hasn’t even washed the plate she ate with.

“Eunice!”. I called out.

No response.

I went to her room and saw video calling someone. Immediately she saw me, she ended the call.

“So you would rather spend your time making calls than help me in the kitchen right? What are you even turning into. I bought this phone for you because I know you’d need it to prepare for your exams but I see you’ve gotten so addicted to it. I will seize it don’t worry”. I shouted .

She didn’t say anything.

I left the room angrily and she followed me to the kitchen.

Silently, we prepared dinner. All through our stay in the kitchen, her phone kept on ringing nonstop. I just did as if I wasn’t seeing the calls.

Around 5:27pm, Julius gallantly walked inside the house.

“Where have you been?”. I asked.

“I went to visit my friend”.

“Who did you tell?”. I asked angrily.

“Nobody”. He murmured.

“Julius, you are looking for my trouble. You won’t like the outcome. I know the next thing you will do is to scramble to the kitchen for food. If everybody is like you, who will cook for who? You are lucky you got home before your father”. I screamed.

“Mummy! Judith is crying”. Jude said.

“Eunice please make the wheat, let me feed Judith”. I said.

I tried calling my husband because he was yet to return from work which was so unlike him but he wasn’t taking any of his calls. I was so worried.

20mins later, his colleague called me that my husband collapsed at work and was rushed to the hospital.

I rushed like a mad woman to the hospital. I told my children to behave themselves in my absence. I only carried Judith with me.

My husband was on drip when I got to the hospital. Though conscious, he was looking so pale.

The doctor said his BP was too high that was why he fainted.

“He just needs a lot of rest and relaxation, he will be fine”. The doctor assured.

I had to call home that I won’t be coming back home that night.

The next day, my husband got discharged.

Eunice and Julius were not at home when my husband and I got to the house. Jude was the only one at home. He was arranging the house when we got in.

Later that evening, I went out to dispose trash when I saw Eunice and a guy in a compromised position.

She was shocked to see me.

I was too tired to shout nor scold her. I disposed the trash and went back inside.

That night, I couldn’t sleep. I kept wondering if I was so terrible at parenting.
