THE EMIRATI CONNECTION
CHAPTER 2
Not that I was really excited about her coming, I just wanted to finally see the person I had been chatting with. However, two days before her flight was scheduled, she called me to say that her boss had told her not to go again. That a new worker had just been recruited and she was required to train the new worker. I was a bit disappointed, but I let it go. After about two weeks, she engaged me in another conversation.
“I will be coming finally, next week.” She announced.
“Good news. Your family will be so thrilled to see you.”
“I am not coming for them.”
“Who are you coming for?” I asked, surprised.
“You.”
“I don’t understand. So, you are coming all the way from the United Arab Emirates just to see me?” I asked.
“Yes.”
I didn’t believe what she was saying. However, I had to take the necessary precautions. I reminded her that my girlfriend would be around since it was December and she couldn’t come to my house. She proposed that I come to the airport to pick her up but I politely refused.
It was the day she was supposed to arrive in Cameroon. I tried talking to her, but her line wasn’t going through. I figured it was because she could be on transit. I waited the whole of that day and the next but there was no message from her. A week later, she texted me and said she was in Cameroon already. However, she said her bags and other stuffs seemed to be missing, so she was still in Douala to sort things out.
Two days later, she said she had had that sorted out and she was in town now and asked if we could see. I declined politely. I wasn’t ready to meet her yet. I didn’t know the things that could happen when we finally met. So, I postponed our meeting much to her disgruntlement. I kept postponing the meeting until it became two months. One day, I was at work with my colleague, Audrey, and we were talking about her.
“Chris, how about Hermine?” She asked.
“Who’s Hermine?”
“The Dubai lady.”
“Oh! I forgot to tell you. She is in the country. In fact, as we talk now, she is in town.”
“Wow!! So, you couldn’t tell me she had come because you didn’t want to share all the goodies she brought, right?” Audrey asked, playfully annoyed.
“No, goodies? What goodies? I haven’t met her yet.”
“What? You haven’t met her yet? How long has she been here?”
“About two months.”
“Two months? And you haven’t met her yet? That is not fair nah.”
“I understand but I have my reasons and my reasons are genuine. Something doesn’t seem to be right about her.”
“I understand you are a very careful person. But please, just see her, please.”
“Alright, I will try.”
On Saturday, I called her and asked that we meet at Sikasso. She accepted excitedly. We agreed to meet at 4:00 PM. At 3:00 PM, I was at the meeting point already. I ordered a bottle of apple-flavoured Bavaria. I sipped the delicious drink slowly while waiting for her. Soon, my phone rang, and I checked. It was her. I directed her to where I was, and she came. I was happy seeing her at least for the sake of seeing her after many months of chatting her online.
“I am happy to see you, Hermine.”
“Me, too.”
“You don’t look much different from your profile picture.”
“You, too.
I asked the bartender to get something for her. She said she would love a bottle of malt and it was brought to her. We chatted about a wide variety of things until we ran out of things to talk about. So, I sipped my drink slowly while she just sat there looking at me. I noticed that she was looking at me intently and I wasn’t very comfortable about it so, I avoided her gaze.
“Why don’t you look me in the eyes, Chris?” She asked.
“I am shy.” I replied, but I wasn’t. “And you, why are you looking at me like that?”
“I can’t take my eyes of you, Chris.”
“Why?”
“Because you are so handsome. I am so happy to meet you. How is your girlfriend, by the way?”
“She is good and how is your boyfriend, too? You finally broke up with him?”
“I told you I couldn’t actually broke up with him straightaway, right?” She asked.
“Yes, but you didn’t tell me why.”
“We were doing business together. So, he still has my money, hundreds of thousands. I need my money back before I finally break up with him.”
“What if he says he wants you back?” I asked and she took almost thirty seconds before answering.
“I don’t think that can be possible.” She spoke.
“Why do you say that? Anything is possible. You guys could meet, and all the old emotions resurface again, and the glowing sphincter of love could be rekindled.”
“I have been at his place.”
“Really? Hope you guys did some catching up?” I asked.
“No, I met a pregnant woman in his house. He told me we could still function even with the woman in his house. He told me he didn’t love the woman. He said he just lives with her because she has gotten pregnant for him. He said as soon as she gives birth, he would ask her to leave.”
“The normal lies men tell. Did you believe him?”
“Of course, no. A week later, I went to see him in his shop in the market, a shop I helped him setup. But he embarrassed me and drove me away disgracefully in full view of everyone.”
“That was bad. So, how about the other guy you told me about? Your friend’s younger brother.”
“I went to see him too. He tried to get us back together but I noticed he has another girl too. So, I stopped him.”
I think Hermine was naïve or she didn’t just know the kind of person I was. I was highly intelligent and always looked at everything with a critical eye. In my mind, I was thinking. I was like, so, she came back to Dubai and tried to reconcile with all her exes. After she failed to do so, she came to me. So, according to her, I was her last resort; a reserve guy that she would fall back on after all her failures.
She had finished her second bottle and said she would not be needing another one. So, I hurriedly finished mine and took her to the side of the main road where she got a bike. Before she left, she proposed that she would love to visit me in my house any time soon. I accepted to take her to my house the following week because by then my girlfriend would have gone back. The holiday will be over. Accepting to take her to my house was a mistake I would seriously come to regret.
A week later, with my girlfriend gone, I invited her to my house. Even as I did that, deep inside of me, something was telling me that it was a bad idea. I however, ignored that deep warning voice and took her home. She was very happy to be in my home. It was around 6:30 PM when she came. I offered to get her a bottle of drink, but she turned down the offer. She said she would take just a glass of water. I went into the kitchen and granted her request.
“Well, as you know, this is a man’s house. I am mostly alone. So, as expected there is no food at home.” I spoke.
“Don’t bother about that. I didn’t come to eat. I just wanted to see where the handsome guy lives.”
“Oh!! Anyway, you are in my house and you are my guest. So, it is only fitting and logical that I offer you something to eat.”
“Don’t bother, I say. I am fine. But how do you eat when you don’t cook?” she asked.
“I eat out most of the time. When my girlfriend is around, she handles the cooking.”
“Hmm! This girlfriend of yours that you talk so much about, can I see her? Do you have a picture of her?”
“Of course.”
My girlfriend was beautiful, very, very beautiful. So, I always took pride in showing her off. I grabbed my phone and showed her a picture of my girlfriend.
“She is beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
We talked about a lot of things and watched one movie. It was around 9:30 PM and it was time for her to go home. She got up from her seat, wore her sandals that she had removed and as soon as she approached the main exit, there was a power cut. Everywhere became dark. I turned on the light of my phone so that we could find our way around. As I searched for my keys, I realized the reason there was a power cut. It was going to rain. It was that kind of downpour that started without warning. Within minutes, it was raining heavily. So, she had to postpone her going and sat back on the sofa. Except for the light of my torch, we were still in darkness. I sat beside her as we waited for the rain to stop.
“Why don’t you turn off the light? You are wasting your battery power.” She spoke.
“I don’t just want us to stay in darkness.”
“It is ok by me. I have no problem with the darkness.”
“Are you sure?”
“Sure.”
I turned off my phone light thereby plunging us into perpetual darkness. It was still raining heavily outside. We were both quiet for about five minutes then she got up from her seat and sat on my laps. That was a very wrong move based on the fact that, there was no power, it was raining outside, I hadn’t had s*x in one week and a lady was now on my laps. I knew I was doing the wrong thing by allowing her sit on my laps. I tried to resist but she was intent on going all the way.
She tried to kiss me, but kissing is not something I liked very much. I always found kissing to be more intimate than s*x. So, I avoided kissing her. Instead, I moved my hands around her body and touched her on places that made her go crazy. I had no intention of making love with her and I figured I was going to stop before it got too far. However, she was all over me and I was finding it difficult to stop. I undid the zipper of the mini gown she was wearing, and the dress hung now just around her chest. I felt her b****t and they were not as plump as I had expected. I sent my hand below, around her panties and was about to shift it to one side but I was interrupted by the sudden return of power.
When power returned, she looked at herself and realized that she was half n***d. She quickly adjusted her dress and moved to another seat. She looked at her watch and opened her mouth in surprise.
“It’s already close to 11:00 PM and the rain is still falling seriously.”
“Yes, we have to wait for the rain to stop. There is no other way.”
“It’s late now. You know, I live with my parents, and it would be rude and disrespectful to go and knock the door at this time. Everyone would already be in bed.”
“So, what are you saying? What are you going to do?” I asked, dreading her reply.
“I will spend the night here.”
