Heartbreak 2.
Our love was a match made in heaven. People spoke about us while some envied us because our love was pure.
I got married to Nancy and it was the best day of my life. We went home and had the best honeymoon we’d ever imagined.
Two weeks after our honeymoon, my boss in the company called me into his office and said,
“Emeka, the company have decided to send you to another country for training. We need improvements in certain areas in our company”, he said.
” But Sir, I just got marrieeeeeed”
” I know you just got married and that’s why we’ve decided to let you spend just 6 months for the program before you come back”, he retorted.
” Ok Sir. Thank you sir”, I replied as I left his office downcasted.
I knew that there was no way I could avoid making that travel. I thought about my young marriage and how my wife would feel if I break the news to her.
When I got home, she was waiting for me. She opened the door and gave me a warm embrace while helping me to remove my shirt.
“Honey, how was your day in the office?”, She quizzed.
” Fine”
” Honey, is everything okay? You don’t look happy, what is the problem? “, She asked me.
Before I could say anything, she hushed me…
“…. Before you tell me what happened, go and freshen up and eat your food. After eating the food, we can enter the room while you eat again before telling me what the problem is”, she giggled.
She knew how to make me happy. She was so good at making me forget my worries.
I stood up from the sofa, entered the bathroom and took my bath before I headed to the dinning table to eat the food she made for me.
Some minutes after eating, we went inside our room and I ate the other food before I broke the news to her.
“Sweetheart, the company have decided to send me another country where I will undergo a training”
” Whaaaat?”, She stuttered.
” Yes sweeerie, that was what the boss told me today. I will be leaving in two days time”
” So soon?”
She turned to the other side of the bed and broke down in tears. I moved closer to her so as to console her.
“But honey, we just got married barely two weeks ago and now you’re traveling to stay for 6 months? How do you want me to cope? I just want to be with you.”, she blurted out.
” Baby m, I understand how you feel. I want to stay with you but I also need to secure our future or Do you want me to be sacked from my job”, I asked her.
” Nooooo, why would you say something like that? This is good news for us. My only concern is that I will miss you badly”
” My sunshine, my happiness, the only beauty in the whole world, I will be back for you before you even know it”, I tried to cheer her up by calling her sweet names.
