CHAPTER TWELVE
THE RESURRECTION
“Jacob go outside leave me alone with your mother .” Afonja said to his son amidst the tears and crying , his daughters were wailing the hospital down .
“Dad…” Jacob tried to say , Afonja raised his hands and quiet him , Nike body lay on the hospital bed , her eyes tightly closed in the sleep of death . He pointed for Jacob to leave the room .
“Just go out and tell your siblings to stop shouting .” As soon as Jacob left the room , Afonja locked the door and brought out an oil , the fat from an African lion , he rubbed it unto Nike’s forehead , it was given in the coven to raise the dead .
“Nike my wife beloved wife , for many years you stood by my side , you sacrificed your life , your career for me to be who I am today , you cannot die , we are cats , they say we have nine lives!” Afonja said he stretched his hands over Nike’s body .
“Now I want you to wake up from your slumber , wake up my wife , may the door of heaven and the door of hell close to you, your work here is yet to be done , I command you with the authority of Shaukura , lord and master of the dark realms , Lord of the underworld, God of the black cat confraternity, wake up !” Afonja ordered his wife .
red light that shone brightly, came out of Afonja’s eyes and entered Nike’s mouth , she sneezed and coughed, waking up , she sat on the chair .
“I want to go back Afonja , I am tired I want to go and rest .” She begged .
“No ! our work here isn’t done Nike , you cannot go , if you go I shall die , our properties would go to the woman we hate the most , I need you to fight by me .” He said to his subconscious wife .
the red LED burnt in her eyes , it brighten the room, Jacob wondered what his father was doing with his mother’s corpse , and what the brightly red light was .
“We cannot win that Margaret girl, she has a stubborn bad blood , we just need to let her win , the child is our grand child .”Nike said in her subconscious state , she sat like a statue on the bed , not shaking or moving only her lips moved .
Afonja folded his fingers into a blow , his knuckles turned white , the rage in his heart was so intense he couldn’t contain it . He punched the wall in front of him .
“No Nike you cannot tell me that ! No Nike I cannot let her win , I cannot let you die , I am not going to die I’ll kill the child myself if you won’t help me !” The wall collapsed into the next room , barely missing a patient lying in bed .
The patient was terrified of the beast he saw standing, with burning read eyes . Afonja left Nike who lay back on the bed . He walked to the trembling patient .
whose mouth was quivering and he was fidgeting on the hospital bed , his vital signs monitors began to beep as his BP jumped to the high side .
Afonja placed his hands on the man’s chest . With a smile on his face , as his sharp claws dug into the man’s chest .
“Ple-ple please don’t -don’t kill me .” the terrified man who had urinated on his trousers begged .
“Why do you think I’ll kill you ? because you saw me in my beast form ?” The man nodded .
“No I won’t kill you .” Afonja said as he bared his sharp fangs and canines , the man wanted to scream , His hand was already over his mouth , the man’s eyes opened in terror , his blood began to pump too fast , he kept staring into Afonja’s eyes before his eyes dropped moving . The BP vital signs figure read zero .
Afonja returned back to his wife’s body lying on the surgery room , He passed through the concrete wall that had broken down , as a result of his punch , he stretched his hands over his wife .
he made an incantation, a calabash , appeared before him , with a blood.
“Nike my wife , I don’t care if you will be angry at me for bringing you back from the dead , but your death would mean my death , I command your spirit to return into your body from the land of the death .” he poured the blood on her face .
then rubbed the Oil on her forehead , again the light shined brightly, the light circled around Nike , the demons that Afonja invoked called Nike from the land of the dead .
“Nike your husband has paid the price for your life , a life for your life. Your soul is not yet in hell, so now we want to return you back to your husband’s waiting hand .” The demons though were many spoke in unison , just one time , but different voices.
Nike opened her eyes , immediately, she saw Afonja standing by her bed . Her injuries on her stomach began to heal , the bullet that was logged in her lungs that the doctors couldn’t find came out of her stomach .
“You killed him for me ?” Nike asked her husband , as she stared at the dead man lying on his bed .
“I can do anything for you Nike .” Afonja said as he held his wife’s hand and kissed his forehead . He walked to the door , opened it and saw Jacob leaning against the wall . Nobody outside had heard the noise of the crumbling wall , which Nike had ordered to stand back in its rightful place . She was the only one who could calm Afonja down when his beast went on rampage . She ordered the building back into its position so nobody could suspect foul play .
“Go and get me your mother’s clothes from the car .” Afonja said to Jacob . his two daughters and son ran towards him . He stopped them with a raise palm.
“Go back ! don’t come here .” He ordered them and returned back into the room .
“Afonja I love you , I don’t mind dying for you again .” Nike proclaimed to her sweetheart.
“I love you Nike we have a baby to kill , a sacrifice to give , we still have forty years to live .” He kissed her as Jacob walked into the room .
“Mum ?” his mouth curved in shock , was he dreaming his mother was dead , how come she was alive here ?
“Mum how come ? dad what …?” He asked in confusion . His mother turned to him with a frown.
“What you wanted me dead ?” she asked Jacob.
“No no mother far from it , I am just shocked to see you alive, the doctors confirmed you dead , but here you are…” Jacob was astounded and astonished .
“Well maybe God said my time is not up , give me my clothes .” Jacob gave his mother and walked out of the room .
she wore her gown , and walked by herself out of the room , without any sign of pain , from surgery her children stared at her with shock.
Jacob and his siblings were in his vehicle, while Nike and Afonja sat in the Lexus Bullet proof SUV.
Nike held Afonja’s hands in the back seat.
“Afonja thank you for bringing me to life , now let’s go and kill that baby .” She whispered in his ears “Probably we would become the richest and most powerful cats in Nigeria after the first blood infant sacrifice .” Nike said giggling into the ear of her sweetheart.
the driver kept staring in the review mirror and straining to hear what she was saying , what wonder had just happened? Madam that was dead , how was she alive , he reminisced in his head .
“Face your front Alani , don’t put your eyes where it doesn’t concern you .” Afonja cold voice yelled at the poke nosing driver . “You’re paid to drive us drive us , if you see what you’re not meant to , whatever happens to you would be on your head .”
Cold ran down his spine as he turned and faced his front .
