Once in Love

Episode Thirteen

“Mom, there’s nothing else you should know, it’s just that I don’t want him to call Kemi out of angėr, and she might end up hūrting my daughter,” Anna said with folded arms.

Her mother simply looked at her. “That is not even a good excuse.

This is the time you need your husband the most, and he needs you too. Don’t let the dėvil come between you.” She didn’t finish talking when Anna said, “Kemi asked me to leave my husband’s house in 24 hours, and only then will I see my daughter again.

I have done everything she asked me to do, but I don’t understand why she has not called me to talk about anything,” Anna said, almost in tears again, and her mother consoled her.

“It’s fine. If you don’t want your husband to know about this, go back to the room and rest. I and your father will handle the situation ourselves.

You need rest, my daughter,” her mother said as she handed her a plate of rice, even though she knew her daughter would not have the appetite to eat. “Go inside and eat, then try to sleep.

You have developed eye bags already from too much stress,” her mother said with a pitiful look. As Anna took the plate and left for her room, she asked her husband, “What should we do?

This whole thing has already drained our daughter.” She asked her husband who was already contemplating what to do.

He dropped his newspaper on the counter. “Bring the phone. I will talk to William myself.

I need to know why Kemi, of all people, chose to kidnāp Isabel,” he said, stretching his hand as his wife passed the phone to him.

He dialed the phone number, and as William picked up, he said, “This is Anna’s father. Meet me at the coffee shop close to my office where we first met.”

William met with his father-in-law in that same coffee shop when he was not yet married to Anna. Although it was not something they expected, they were both waiting for someone who disappointed them, and William offered him a cup of coffee.

That gesture moved the man so much that even when William went to seek Anna’s hand in marriage, he didn’t realize it was the same person until that day.

They were very close. William didn’t say any more words, he just prepared to meet his father-in-law at the house. However, as he was about to step out, there was a knock at the gate.

It was Kemi. “Open the gate and check who is there,” he said to the gateman, who ran to see who was at the gate.

It was Kemi, going to see if Anna had really left her matrimonial home, even when she kew Anna will do anything for her daughter.

“Good afternoon, William,” she greeted with a smile. “Good afternoon, Kemi,” Mr. William responded reluctantly, stamping his feet on the ground and checking the time to show he was running late and didn’t have time for chitchat.

Kemi closely examined Mr. William from head to toe and lícked her lips.

“You are looking so handsome as always, more reason I became attracted to you,” she said, trying to touch him, making Mr. William very uneasy.

“Is this why you came here? What are you doing here? Please speak up because I don’t have time for irrelevant things; I’m running late,” he responded with a frōwn.

“Don’t act up today. I know Anna is not here. The one you left me for has finally left you.

There is still time; you can come back, and I will forgive you,” she said, closing her mouth after revealing that she knew Anna had left the house. She was scared he might ask her how she knew, but he didn’t have time for that.

“Nonsėnse,” Mr. William said, this time walking towards the gate. “I will never be yours. I am a married man, Kemi.

You should find someone else because I’m not the only man in the world,” he yelled at her.

Then he said to the gate man, “Open the gate, throw this woman out of my house,” as he entered the car and drove out of the compound.

The gate man couldn’t even do anything to Kemi with the way she looked at him; he couldn’t do anything at all. “William, I will make sure you regrėt this. You will surely be mine.

I will make sure you are left with nothing until you come back to me,” she said as she left the compound, flagged down a cab, and went to the office.

She only helped Anna get the job so that she could gain her trust and be closer to her husband.

She had to find a way for Anna to be sācked. As she stepped into the office, she went straight to the manager’s office with an envelope.

“Good morning, sir,” she said to the manager, carrying a pitiful look. “Good morning, Miss Kemi. How can I help you?” the man asked.

Kemi paused for a moment and then handed the envelope to the man, who opened it and read the content. “Resignation letter?” he asked in a confused state. Kemi just nodded.

Then the manager asked, “Has she told you why she is resigning? There is no reason here. And why are you the one bringing the letter?”

He asked her. Kemi could not answer the question she was asked; instead, she just pleaded to take her leave.

The manager understood that something was not right. Anna was one of the best staff in the company. She had never complained about her job.

Why would she choose to resign, even to the point of sending the letter through Kemi?

He understood she was her friend, but Anna knew the rules of the company and would not just send a letter through another staff.

He thought for a while as he picked up the phone to call Anna.
