Once in Love
Episode One
“I wonder why my husband has decided to stay out this late.
It has never happened before,” Mrs. Williams said, tossing herself on every side of the couch as she read a newspaper in their apartment.
Soon, sleep took over and she forgot the door was locked.
Shortly after, Mr. Williams came back from work completely exhausted.
He honked his car, but no one seemed to respond, not even Uche, the gate man.
He kept honking, and Uche, hearing it from his sleep, rushed to answer the door. “Ah, oga,” he said, stretching himself and yawning.
He used his right hand to clean his eyes, then checked the time. “It’s not even 11 o’clock yet.
This man is enjoying himself outside more than in his own house. If I be oga, I for no open gate give am I know say him don dey pack small small girls. I just pity my madam.”
Suddenly, Uche realized he had spent a lot of time, so he rushed to answer the gate.
As he was rushing to open it, Mr. Williams drove inside without letting him close the gate.
“Come here, Uche!” Mr. Williams roared, exposing his already angry face. “Didn’t you hear I was at the gate?” He hit Uche on the head.
“The next time I come back and you take long to open the gate for me, just pack your bag because that day you will leave my house.”
Uche nodded sheepishly and rubbed the area where Mr. Williams hit him.
He rushed to close the gate while Mr. Williams went straight to the house.
He knocked on the door, but there was no response.
“Honey,” he called, still no response. He used his hands to pull the door knob, and it opened instantly. “How can she be so careless? What if someone enters here and stėals or hurts them?”
As he was still talking, he saw his wife lying on the couch. He tapped her lightly and said, “Honey”
His wife jumps up, then she takes a breath after realizing it’s her husband.
“Oh my God, you scared me, honey! I’ve been waiting for you. You’ve never stayed out this late. What could be the problem?” she says with a frown.
“That doesn’t matter for now, my love. But why did you leave the door open?” he asks enthusiastically. But she rubs her eyes and says, “I forgot about it, honey.
I was waiting for you and didn’t even realize when I fell asleep. Are you hungry? Should we have dinner now?” she asks.
He shakes his head and says, “I already had dinner at the office,” as he takes her hand and leads her to the bedroom.
Then he goes back to check if he locked the door, and they go together to the bedroom.
Mrs. Williams couldn’t sleep. She was lost in thought, wondering, “When did my husband start staying out at night?
And why did he refuse my food for the first time? Something just doesn’t feel right here.”
She considers checking her husband’s phone to investigate, but decides to put it back and go to sleep.
