Unknown Pregnancy
Episode 10
Sandra and her mother, Mama Sandra, had settled into a rhythm of survival. Each day was a challenge, but they managed to get by. Sandra’s baby had been born a few months earlier, and though the joy of his arrival had been tempered by the hardships that followed, the small family clung to each other for support.
Over the next two years, the challenges of raising a child on limited resources had weighed heavily on Sandra. Her days were a relentless cycle of caring for her son and trying to make ends meet. Mama Sandra, though older and frail, remained a steadfast presence, helping in every way she could. Their life was modest, but it was theirs.
One warm afternoon, as Sandra was tending to chores outside, a commotion drew her attention. Several cars, sleek and expensive, drove into their humble compound. Sandra and Mama Sandra exchanged puzzled looks. The sight of such luxury contrasted sharply with their simple surroundings.
Mama Sandra squinted toward the cars. “Who could that be?”
Sandra shook her head. “I don’t know, Mama. But it seems important.”
The door of one of the cars opened, and out stepped Mark. His polished appearance was in stark contrast to the weariness etched on Sandra’s face. He walked toward the house with a sense of urgency, and Sandra’s heart began to race. It had been two years since she had last seen him, and his sudden reappearance was both unexpected and unsettling.
Mark approached Sandra and Mama Sandra, who were now standing outside, their expressions a mix of confusion and apprehension. He stopped a few feet away and took a deep breath, visibly struggling with his emotions.
“Mama Sandra, Sandra,” Mark said, his voice steady but laden with tension. “I need to talk to you.”
Sandra looked at him, her eyes filled with guarded curiosity. “What are you doing here, Mark?”
“I came to apologize,” Mark said, his gaze shifting between Sandra and her mother. “There’s something I need to confess.”
Mama Sandra stepped forward, her face showing a mix of skepticism and concern. “Confess? After all this time?”
Mark nodded, his face solemn. “Yes. I’ve been carrying a heavy burden, and I need to make it right.”
Sandra’s heart pounded. “Make it right? What do you mean?”
Mark took a deep breath and then, with a look of determination, knelt down before Sandra. “Sandra, I am the father of your child. I slept with you that night when I gave you the juice. I’m responsible for what happened.”
Sandra’s eyes widened in shock. “You’re the father? Why didn’t you come forward sooner?”
Mark’s voice was barely above a whisper. “I was afraid. I didn’t know how to face you or the situation. I thought it would be easier if I stayed away.”
Tears welled up in Sandra’s eyes. “You left us without a word. We struggled so much, Mark.”
“I know,” Mark said, his voice trembling. “And I am deeply sorry. I should have been there for you and our child.”
Mama Sandra’s eyes narrowed. “And what do you expect us to do now? After all this time?”
Mark looked up at her, his face a picture of earnestness. “I want to make amends. I want to be part of your lives. I want to marry Sandra and take care of her and her son. I want to provide for them and make things right.”
Sandra was overwhelmed by the unexpected turn of events. “Marry you? After everything?”
“Yes,” Mark replied, rising to his feet. “I know it’s a lot to ask, but I want to prove to you that I can be the man you and your son need.”
Sandra’s emotions were a storm of anger, pain, and a flicker of hope. “I don’t know if I can forgive you, Mark. We’ve managed without you, and it hasn’t been easy.”
Mark reached out, his hand trembling. “Please, Sandra. Give me a chance to make it right. I want to be there for both of you. I want to help you build a future together.”
Mama Sandra glanced at her daughter and then back at Mark. “You’ve returned after two years and expect everything to be okay?”
Mark nodded, his eyes filled with determination. “I know it won’t be easy. I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to make things right. I just need the opportunity.”
Sandra took a deep breath, trying to process the gravity of the situation. “Mark, this is a lot to take in. I need time to think about what you’ve said.”
Mark’s expression softened, and he nodded. “I understand. I’ll wait as long as it takes. I’m here to make amends and prove that I can be a part of your lives.”
As Mark turned to leave, Sandra watched him go, her emotions a tumultuous mix of confusion and a hesitant hope. The future was uncertain, and the wounds of the past were still fresh. But for the first time in a long time, there was a glimmer of possibility.
Sandra’s gaze fixed on the departing cars, and Mama Sandra placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
