Trapped episode 6

TRAPPED- Episode 6

Days later….

“David….we are going to see your Aunt, Ejiro…. I don’t want your father to know about this….okay”

“Okay mummy”

We had just finished our usual Saturday shopping at the market. Mama decided to use the opportunity to see Aunty Ejiro.
Aunty Ejiro wasn’t pleased to see Mama at all.

“Ejiro are you still angry with me” Mama said as she sat down
“Sister I am not angry with you at all… my only concern is that , Papa David has not been treating you well…I fear for you greatly…you are the only sister I have…you know our parents left us long ago”

“Hmmmmm…Ejiro…please don’t fear for me at all…I believe Papa David will soon change”

“Change!…Sister when exactly… I mean when will he change…he has been beating you long before you had your children…same man that beat you up when you were pregnant with your first child…remember we almost lost David…that was what you told me then…you said he will change..remember you are still very young ooo…it’s just that you got married very early”
“Ejiro I have been praying about this and I believe God will change him”

“No Sister, nothing can change him if he is not ready to change…Papa David is the most religious person I have ever met…he doesn’t joke with church…he is even Mr prayer warrior… he listens to the word of God in church so why hasn’t he changed all this while…”

“Ejiro that will not stop me from believing…I can’t abandon my home…I must make my marriage work ….people will laugh at me if my marriage crumbles…if not for anything, for the sake of my children…I am trapped already, I can’t get out”

“Sister you are the one trapping yourself…it’s just a lie you keep telling yourself…forget what people will say it doesn’t matter…you are not trapped…you can get out”

Again the pastor preached,
“Husbands please don’t beat your wives”. Even though I didn’t really understand the whole sermon that Sunday, at least I heard that.

Papa was one of the leaders in our church; he had a special seat in the front row. He sat there listening to the pastor with rapt attention. I tried to read his mind. Perhaps he was going to change finally after listening to the sermon I wished.

After service, Papa gathered us together to go greet the pastor. It was the usual routine. He believed in receiving blessings from the pastor after each service.

“Aaaaaa…Bro Efe …you are really taking care of your family…aaa see Madam …see the way she’s shining…you are really a good husband”

“Thank you Pastor…it’s the lords doing Sir” Papa said giggling
Mama smiled faintly. The pastor prayed for us and encouraged Papa to continue his good work in the body of Christ.
