The Sudden Proposal episode 7

THE SUDDEN PROPOSAL – Last Episode

Days went by and I couldn’t help the thoughts of Folu on my mind. Tables turned and I was in no way pretending about how I felt around Folu. Nibo, they said something must ‘kpai’ a man, I guess my something Folu. The funny part was he didn’t seem to have much of my time, though. I guess he meant it when he said he’d give me some space.

Now, Folu’s birthday was drawing close, and guess who teamed up with Dennis to give him a surprise? Yeah, right, it was me. I, in fact brought the idea.

So, the D day arrived, and as usual, the foodie in me got to work as I made multiple dishes just to ensure Folu had a blast. I also linked with Tola, Folu’s kid sister who made a massive cake to celebrate her brother.

Folu has never been the type who bothered about celebrating his birthday, this was a more reason why we decided to take it up.

Can you all come closer as I whisper something in your ears?

“I think, I am in love with Folu. Shhhhh! Do not say it loud.”

The truth is, I do not know if Folu knows about this or not but at this stage, I am so engulfed that I cannot hold back any longer. We all legit know that a comrade like me wouldn’t open up to tell him but if he ever comes for me again, I am surely giving him a yes on the spot.

Do not even look at me that way, please. Na love I love, I no kee person.

It was the D day and the plan was that Dennis would take Folu for games at the tennis court as his little way of celebrating him while myself and Tola were to set up his house before they returned.

We also invited a few friends to spice up the place.

On the arrival of Folu and Dennis, we all kept mute with the lights turned off. Folu opened the door and turned on the lights.

Everything seemed normal until we all screamed “Surprise!” From the dining room where we all hid.

Our DJ didn’t slack as he immediately turned up the atmosphere with some good music.

The shock on Folu’s face was giving everything that needed to be given. He kept thanking everyone and reiterating that this was his first-ever birthday celebration since adulthood and he didn’t realize how beautiful birthdays were until we pulled this up.

The music went down and we were all asked to say nice things about the celebrant. It was my turn, I mean my chance to let the cat out of the bag but I couldn’t.

“Honestly, I think on a day like this, I am even more excited than the celebrant. Folu has been a true friend to me and I appreciate him in every single way.”

At this point, Folu couldn’t believe his ears.

“Folu is a good man with a good heart and if we miss anything tonight, it shouldn’t be knowing that Folu is an angel. Uhm! Let us save this epistle while the celebrant cuts his cake,” I said immediately as I noticed how I was selling out myself.

Dennis picked up from where I stopped.

“Okay, before we proceed, I want to thank B for cooking up this entire idea. I know Folu is all about work and work but B took it a step further this time and we all supported wholeheartedly. Folu, before you cut your cake, we want you to make a wish,” Dennis said with so much intentionality.

“Gosh! I am speechless. Wow! I never saw this coming. My God! Where do I even begin from?” He asked.

“Begin from your wish, emabinu. I want to eat this cake,” Tola teased.

“Oh yes! Uhm! For many months now, I have only had one wish. It may be me going overboard but then, it is all I ever wished for. So, here it is. I wish to make B my bride. Uhm! I know this may make her mad at me but honestly, B, you’re all I wish for.”

At this point, everyone was looking at me with their bombastic side eyes. My heart was however leaping for joy as this has also been my wish for weeks now ever since Folu’s shocking proposal at the restaurant.

My silence got the atmosphere tensed and Folu spoke again.

“I’m so sorry, B. I was just….”

“Shhhhh! You do not need to say anymore, Fofo. I mean, yes. Yes! I will grant you your wish. I mean, I didn’t know how much I loved you too until you gave me some distance. Just this morning I prayed to have that chance again and it is here. I am accepting it with my full chest Folu. I love you,” I whispered.

“Security! Help! 2 comrades down,” Dennis screamed.

Folu walked toward me and my arms were already opened to receive him. We hugged passionately and our guests couldn’t help but take photos and videos of the moment.

“Thank you, B.”

“Don’t thank me, Folu. Thank you,” I responded.

Tola served everyone food and drinks while Folu and I sat in the dining to speak.

“So like this, you’re now my babe?”

“Yes Nah! E choke abi?” I asked.

“I swear! Common now. Thanks….”

“Shhhh, stop thanking me jor. But sincerely, Fofo, why me? Based on popular opinion, a lot of people see my imperfections more. Like I know I am one heck of a crazy girl so why did you persist?” I questioned.

“If I say I know why, I may not be right but what I know is this; you may not be perfect but you’re perfect for me and you may not see it but you’re more than what those people say.”

“Awww! Fofo, shey you dey whine me?” I teased.

“You know I can’t. Why are you still calling me Fofo? Ain’t it time to step it up to boo or bae? My ears are itching to hear it.”

“Lobatan! See who I have chosen to date oh.”

“Ehn! Eh! Date abi marry? Stop joking,” Folu said.

“Calm down first. I thought you only asked me to be your girlfriend, not your wife. And hey, look at my fingers, I can’t see any ring on them,” I reminded.

Immediately, Folu got up and went into his room. Dennis couldn’t help but smile. Everyone in the building was excited. Folu returned a minute later and asked for everyone’s attention.

“Uhm! I guess there has been a mix-up but I am back to fix it. The young damsel misunderstood my wish for something smaller but I want to clear the air,” Folu said.

He knelt immediately and brought out a ring. It was the same ring he bought at the mall.

“B, will you marry me? I mean, will you be my wife?”

I held my mouth and widened my gaze.

“Folu, is this not the ring from the mall?”

“It is, I decided to keep it for whenever you’d be ready.”

“Ahh! Are we not supposed to date and all before this comes up?” I panicked.

“Of course, we just dated for 20 minutes and I am ready to take this to the next level.”

Everyone busted into laughter.

“This is crazy! It’s a yes, Folu. A big yes. I will be your wife.”

I gave Folu my hand as he inserted the ring into my finger. He got up and we slowly drew closer to each other with our lips drawing closer when Dennis screamed.

“Hold it! None of us is a cleric here. If we live Folu and B, they’d get married tonight. For the kiss, I think we all should wait till you’re declared by the pastor as man and wife.

Everyone bursts into deeper laughter this time. We all ate food, danced, and played games till the day was over.

This is my love story. I found love in my imperfection but my motivation to change and be my best version has been my goal ever since. I hope beyond the comic love story, we all learn to improve each day.

The end.
