Alex stared at Andre.”why am I still alive? How is Maddie?”
He jumped off the bed, but Andre held him down.
“Calm down….Alex calm down Maddie’s is fine…you have been sleeping since 5 days…”
Alex screamed, “five days? How is Maddie’s?” He tried to push Andre, but Andre slapped him to come back to his senses.
“Alex calm down, Maddie’s is fine…she is in this hospital…her heart transplant was successful.”
“If she is fine, why am I still Alive?” Alex asked.
Alex’s eyes narrowed.
“whose heart is in Maddie’s body?” he asked.
Andre hesitated.
“The heart transplant team found a compatible donor, a young woman who had suffered a fatal brain aneurysm,” Andre explained.
Alex’s curiosity deepened.
“Who was she?”
Andre’s voice softened.
“Her name was Sophia, a talented artist. She had registered as an organ donor, and her family honored her wish.”
Alex’s thoughts swirled.
Sophia’s heart now beat within Maddie.
Gratitude filled his chest.
“Thank you, Sophia,” Alex whispered.
Andre Continue, “I came to the hospital when you were in the theatre.you had already been administered Midazolam (Versed) and Fentanyl for anesthesia induction and pain management before the operation was about to commence.”
“Fortunately, the surgery wasn’t done on you. Due to the anesthesia, you were transferred to the ICU for close monitoring,” Andre explained.
“If I had come a minute late, I don’t know what I would have done,” Andre added.
Alex felt overwhelming gratitude.
“Thank you, Andre. You’re a true friend. I want to see Maddie. Please take me to her.”
Andre nodded. “Fine, let’s go.”
Alex was taken to Maddie’s hospital room, where she lay recovering.
Maddie’s parents were shocked to see Alex.
“Alex, you’re…?” they began.
Before Alex could reply, Maddie’s eyes slowly opened.
Alex rushed to her side.
Maddie’s eyes widened, locked onto Alex, and then closed again. She reopened them, ensuring he was still there.
She touched him, and Alex held her hand.
“How are you doing, my love?” Alex asked.
Maddie’s voice trembled.
“You’re alive.”
Alex nodded.
“Yes, God gave us a second chance.”
Maddie asked, “If you’re alive, whose heart is in my body?”
Alex smiled reassuringly.
“I’ll explain everything when you’re feeling better.”

Six months later, Alex, Maddie, and her family visited Sophia’s family to express gratitude for the heart donation.
