THE EVIL BRIDESMAID
CHAPTER ONE
It was about 5:30 am when I heard my neighbors screaming outside. I rushed out, not knowing what to expect. At first, I thought it was a thief. Our area was notorious for such incidents. The neighborhood was beautiful, filled with elegant story buildings. However, the problem was that each building was owned by different people, and security had not yet been guaranteed. Therefore, thieves had easy access to it. The only security they had was gates which separated this buildings.
My mind raced as I hurried to find out the cause of the commotion outside. Out of my gate, I didn’t see anyone, but my neighbor’s gate was wide open and people rushed in screaming and some fleeing away from the scene. The noise had been coming from there all along. My heart pounded as I approached. This particular neighbor was one of my favorites; we had become really close, since she moved in with her husband six weeks back. As people streamed in and out of her house, my curiosity grew even more and I became very scared.
Finally, I reached her gate and saw a huge crowd gathered around. Uncertainty filled the air until another woman who had just rushed in, screamed out loud. “Jesus!!!” and she rushed back outside. Others held their mouths in shock. Ella’s friends rushed in, crying, falling, and some even fainting.
I pushed my way through the crowd and finally, there on flow was the lifeless body of Mrs. Ellen Bichong on the floor. She was still wearing her wedding gown. One side of the gown was stained red with blood dripping from her body. Her brain lay smashed on the floor, her eyeballs fallen out, and half of her brain protruding from her head. The scene was horrifying. Beside her sat her devastated husband. Swollen eyes and had fallen in deep shock.
I burst out in tears unable to control my emotions. Throw my self on the floor, rolling and screaming. At about 6:00 am in the morning, an ambulance drove in and then they carried her corpse away to be put in Villa’s general hospital. I was about to go home when I heard one of her friends talking to her mum over the phone while crying
“ Mum!! Ella is gone.” She said as her subbed.
“ Mum I have no idea what happened to her, we were all okay yesterday, Ella was fine, she was very happy yesterday.” She paused to listen to her mum on the phone and continued.
“ I was the last person to see her yesterday mum.
After the wedding ceremony, she, her husband and myself came home. I even spoke to her yesterday before she left to her room to go sleep.”
Few minutes later I heard someone came rushing calling the attention of the girl on the phone.
“ Mira!!” for that was her name “Please! come and Listen to this. Mr Leo said he saw what happened last night.” I was about going back home to regain myself but after hearing this I rushed back and followed them into the living room. All eyes were now on Mr Leo who claims to have weakness everything. In the living room, I spotted Ella’s husband who lied down on the sofa like a lifeless lock of wood, just staring at his portrait with his wife on his hand.
I channeled my attention to where Mr Leo was seating with the crowd.
“ it all happened yesterday night, when I came back from my friend’s birthday party. It was already 3:00 am and I was really drunk and tired. I went out to seat in my balcony to get some fresh air and smoke before going to bed. I sat down and was smoking then all of a sudden, I spotted two young ladies on Mr Bichong’s Balcony, both dressed in a wedding gown. One wore black and the other wore white which I presume it should be the new bride. I paid no attention to what they were doing and just focused on my cigarette. Then I Left and went back inside.” Everyone was silent and waiting for him to land when he stared them in the face and said
“I thought I was the Dumb one here.”
“ What exactly Do you mean?” someone asked
“ The point of all this is that, Mr Ellen was pushed by someone”
“ Did you see this person? How does he looked like or better still, she looked like?
“ I just told everything that I witnessed outside.”
“Ohh Really now!! God!!!, why are we listening to a drunkard?
Linda, my other neighbor, cried out. “I am serious, I saw them,” Mr. Leo persisted.
“We all know who this man is—a drunk and a useless man. No wonder his wife left him.”
“Watch your tongue, Linda. I am not your age mate,” Mr. Leo retorted.
“How can you say you saw two brides, one wearing black and the other white? We all know that Ella was the only bride. Everything you just said sounds stupid.”
It was indeed true that Mr. Leo was an alcoholic, and also true that what he said didn’t make a lot of sense. As a result, everyone dispersed to their various corners.
Many rumors circulated that George Bichong was involved in the death of his wife, Ellen Bichong. According to these people, he used his wife for rituals to add more to his wealth. Others claimed that Ella had committed suicide, suggesting that she was not ready to get married and her parents had forced her into it. Rumors upon rumors. Non of this were true. This is because Mr Bichong was well known in our community as a business tycoon, who struggled from grass to Grace and worked his way to success. Ella on the other hand had always been so happy to marry Bichong. Bichong and Ella’s parents had never met each other till the day she took him to be introduced as her fiance.
A week had passed, and investigations were still ongoing regarding what happened to Ella. No one had been able to give an account of what transpired that night.
One fateful morning, as I was heading to work, I noticed a police van parked outside Mr. Bichong’s compound. I walked over to their direction, and peep through the gate. what I heard scared and heard me.
“Mr. Bichong, you’re under arrest for the death of Mrs. Ellen Bichong. You have the right to remain silent; anything you say here will be used against you in the court of law.”
