The Divorce Episode Fifteen
Diana confronted Ada, questioning her about her actions at the hospital. Ada was in the kitchen cooking when Diana walked in.
“You think I wouldn’t find out?” Diana asked. Her facial expression was serious and her presence was commanding. She stood beside Ada as if she wanted to push her into the sink.
“You think I didn’t know what you did at the hospital? Tekena has pushed me away and had secretly married you, why do you want to claim the baby that doesn’t belong to him? You want the baby to be his own so that I will continue to suffer under you? You are a wicked woman. You paid the lab technician to change the DNA test result. You think I wouldn’t find out?” Diana asked angrily.
“For more than two weeks, the two of you did not give me food in this house. None of you helped me in any way to care for my daughter. And when you noticed that my story was about to change for the better, you started to plan how to sabotage the plan God has for me. You are a devil.” Diana said to Ada. She paused to make sure her points sank well in Ada’s head and then continued to talk.
“You wanted me and daughter to suffer for the rest of our lives. Well, I have news for you: we will not suffer. The baby belongs to Jones and it has been confirmed by the DNA test even though you wanted to sabotage it. Your plan failed. You have to hatch another plan because this one did not work. My daughter belongs to Jones and not to your wicked husband.” Diana said as she turned to leave the kitchen.
“So you are proud that you got pregnant for another man in while still in your husband ‘s house? Why are you shouting up and down as if what you did was something to be proud of? Your husband is still alive, you still live with your husband, but another man got you pregnant and you gave birth to the baby right in your husband’s house. Is that what you are proud of? So if they allow you now, you will go to the streets and start telling people that you got pregnant for a white man while still married to your husband? You should have small shame Diana. Are you not ashamed?” Ada asked. Her words drew back the attention of Diana. She was already leaving the kitchen but she turned back.
“I’m proud of what I did. You want to hear the full story? I’m extremely proud of my actions. I have taken responsibility for my actions. Everything you enjoy in this house today came from me. Every good thing your so called husband owns today came from me. The food you eat, the clothes you wear, and the house you live in are all from me. I built the wealth you are enjoying. If I were you, I will be very humble, because you don’t know what is coming your way. If I were you, I will not be opening my mouth to talk anyhow. You don’t know how I started with my husband. You don’t know how we used to live in poverty. You don’t even know how he got the job. You don’t know what I went through with him over the years when he was jobless. You just came from nowhere and became a second wife. You came and you met a lot of money. You met a man who already has money to spend on you. Let me tell you, I started with Tekena when he had nothing. I made difficult sacrifices to bring him to this level. Yes, what I did was wrong, but I just discovered that you want to use it to mock me. I won’t allow myself to be mocked. So, if you are asking me to bow my head in shame, my answer is no! I won’t do that! I will be proud and if I have my way, I will go to the radio station and pay them to have it announced for more people to hear. Are you satisfied now?” Diana said with a sarcastic smile as she left the kitchen. Ada didn’t respond because at that point, she didn’t know what to say.
When Diana came out from the kitchen, she saw Joan sitting in the living room. She was on call with her father who was in the UK. They were already rounding up their discussion when Diana arrived in the living room.
“It’s settled. Jones has accepted the baby as his own. My father has offered the baby 5% share of the company. This entitles the child to be the head of the Nigerian branch. However, since she has not come of age, you have been asked to be the trustee managing director of our Nigerian branch until the baby grows to 18 years. You and Jones are not married and he has said he won’t marry you, but my father has accorded the child the full rights he gives to each member of our family. My father hates shame. So, I want to ask, are you educated? Are you intelligent enough to manage a company? This is a very delicate task and the company could fail if you don’t have the skills.” Joan asked.
“I’m not educated.” Diana said sadly.
“In that case, my father said if you are not educated, you can still become the managing director while your husband will be demoted to the post of chief operating officer. Since he is educated and has the skills, he will see to the day to day running of the company and then report back to you as his boss. My family is entrusting you with this important responsibility. Please, don’t fail. If you fail, the company will suffer. I have booked my flight and I’m returning to the UK in a few hours.” Joan said to Diana who was shedding tears of joy.
Immediately after Joan returned to the UK, Diana visited the company to take over. Tekena did not know what was going on and he was shocked when Diana walked into his office with swag, holding her baby.
“What are you doing here?” Tekena asked.
“You are fired! You are sacked! Pack your bags and leave this company.” Diana said with defiance.
