EPISODE NINE

“Mum it’s just a little experiment that I want to try out..”
“But why doing it in the bathroom. Can’t you do that in the kitchen or probably somewhere else? You even brought our cup to the kitchen..”
“Mum I’m sorry…”
“You that is not even feeling fine.. I don’t know ooo. You children like giving someone headache at times..” mum added, shut the door and left.
“Phew….” I took a deep breath, exhaled and continued with what I was doing.
I squeezed out the water inside the cup although I added some water to make it easier for me, then I flushed the rest inside the WC and exited.
Esther prepared Rice but she insisted on drinking tea.
Everyone of us ate the rice excluding her.
After she finished making the tea, she covered it inside the kitchen, took some cash from mum and went to buy bread π. Mum later went to sleep. She didn’t go to work that day..
I went to where I hid the cup, I brought it to the kitchen where Esther covered the tea. I removed the cover and began to talk to myself.
“Mum please I have no other choice than to do this.. Esther please find it in the bottom of your heart to forgive me. I believe that nothing bad will happen to you, if peradventure something tragic happens, trust me I’ll look for a way to fix it..”
After murmuring to myself in tears for minutes, I poured the water inside and mixed it with the tea. I even added some sugar to it so she wouldn’t suspect anything.
The tea was looking normal. I covered it, washed the cup and left.
My sister came back with the bread, she took the tea to the parlour and I was stylishly gazing at her as she was drinking it..
“Shedrack this tea is very sweet and sugary… You added more sugar?”
I was gazing at her but my mind was somewhere else. I was crying in my mind and begging God for forgiveness.
“Shedrack!”
“Shedrack!!”
“Shedrack mum is calling you.” Esther tapped me and I quickly realized myself.
“Brother this one you’re just looking strange and quiet. I never knew you to be a quiet person..”
“Esther you won’t understand..” I answered her, cleaned my running nose and quickly rushed to mum’s room.
“Mummy…”
“So you want to tell me that you’ve not been hearing me isn’t it?”
“Mummy I’m sorry..”
“It’s okay. Go and boil me some water. You know your sister has been cooking and arranging the house. she’s tired.. Let her rest okay…”
“Okay mum..”
“Try and hasten it up. I have a meeting to attend and I also need to check on your pastor..”
“Okay mum.” I answered her and went straight to the kitchen to boil the water.
I peeped through the door and my sister was still drinking the tea.
During the evening, one of our neighbours asked my sister and me to assist them in bringing their new freezer inside. Before we left, the man questioned me about the eye, but I told him it was just a minor scrape that it wasn’t that serious.. With the way he gazed at me I knew he wasn’t satisfied with what I told him. He knew there was more to it but we left regardless.
They restored power around 6pm and we managed to fill up the tanks.
I was seeing my sister doing fine, because I was thinking that something terrible would’ve happened to her after drinking the tea..
I turned off the lights, Esther and I bother slept off in our couch around 9pm.
Around 1:50am, I jolted back from the sleep and I became scared. The lights appeared to be no more because the whole place was a bit dark.
When I turned to where my sister was sleeping, I saw her eyes were partially closed. When I drew close I was not hearing her breathing like someone that was sleeping.
Fear gripped me.
“Esther. Esther,” I whispered her name but she didn’t respond.
