MY MILITARY BOYFRIEND AND I
CHAPTER THIRTEEN:
The girl sat nervously in my living room, dragging her bags and placing them beside a chair. I watched her closely, my anger simmering.
“Can I ask you something?” I said, my voice sharp.
“Okay,” she replied cautiously.
“How do you feel about being involved with married men?” I asked, my frustration evident.
“Excuse me!” she retorted.
Before I could continue, a voice interrupted from outside. It was Chris, scolding our gate man.
“I’ve told you to lock the gates at 6:30. How could you be so careless?” Chris snapped.
“Sorry, sir,” the gate man stammered.
“I don’t want to hear excuses,” Chris replied curtly.
I had been waiting impatiently for Chris. When he finally arrived, he looked startled to see the girl in our house.
“Well, well, well, Christophe,” I said sarcastically. “Aren’t you going to welcome your…special friend?” Chris shamefully lowered his head. A few minutes later, he grabbed her arm and pulled her to a corner.
“What are you doing here?” he demanded.
She laughed hysterically. “I’m pregnant!”
“Pregnant? Okay, how’s that my problem?” Chris retorted. “As you can see,” she pointed to her bags in the corner, “I’m here to stay!”
“You must be out of your mind,” Chris glared at her. “This is my family house. How dare you embarrass me in front of my wife and kids?”
“You should have thought about them before…” she began.
“Before what?” Chris interrupted. “I won’t accommodate you here. Find the father of that thing in your stomach. I am not responsible for it.” He gestured for her to leave.
“You’re lying! I’m not going anywhere,” she declared. “You should have considered your family before putting me in a family way”
I had been silently observing. When Chris roughly dragged her outside, I rushed after him and pushed him away.
“Oh, so now you’re not responsible? God! Why me? What kind of a useless man did I marry?” I exclaimed, my frustration boiling over. His eyes widened, and he shifted uncomfortably in his chair.
“And what do you mean by that, huh? I am your husband; I deserve some respect from you.” His voice was sharp, matching the anger in my own.
“Oh! spare me that! Look at what you’ve gotten yourself into.” I didn’t give him a chance to respond. “Was lying to me not enough? Why would you lie to me about loving me?”
He feigned innocence, He leaned forward, his face inches from mine. “Ann, what’s wrong with you? What are you talking about?” His tone was low, dangerous.
“You’re such a disgrace to manhood…” I spat on him, unable to hold back my contempt.
“Watch your tongue!! Ann!” he said as he raised his right hand and left it on my jaws leaving them boil in pain.
“ How Dare you slap me?.” I said as I watched his angry red face. “For this rubbish you just did, You will regret it.”
I descended the stairs in rage, Going straight to my children’s room. I spent the night there. At first cockcrow, I got up prepared myself, Went into our room got my few bags and Parked them. While in my children’s room last night, I took the opportunity to park their Things out.
Once we were all prepared, I took them down at about 6:00. I called for the gate man who came up, I directed him to where our things were. And one by one he took them all. I held my two Children by hand and Rushed down. A voice came from upstairs.
“And Where the hell do you think you’re going to with my Children?”
