CHAPTER TEN
After this threat I swore never to have anything to do with him again. I wanted to change town so as to avoid him and his baby mama drama. I was relieved few days ago when Maria Told me she had been arrested for reasons we knew nothing of.
After a month Chris came to my house and informed us that he had her Arrested and charged her for attempted murder. I was worried about his little baby who was going to be left alone but he assured me that his baby was infact the reason why he had her arrested.
“ Sophie has always been very crazy, but I had never imagined she’ll turn out to be a demon. She was so crazy to the extent she tried to kill my son.”
“ Kill your son??”
“Yeah.” She called one morning and told me she was going to poison him to death if I didn’t get married to her within two days.”
“I confided to a friend, who laughed about it and told me she wouldn’t do such since she was his mom. I actually agreed with him because I have heard women do stuff like that just to get men entrapped. So I went back home and thought of it again.”
“What?, You just went home??”
“I paid her sister a visit and convinced her, I literally paid her money to go watch over my child. The day she was to poison him, her sister Becca visited her. She pretended and acted all loving towards the child. To cut the long story short Becca discovered poison in her closet. She took pictures of it and sent to me and told me to come take my child away least she killed him. With the threat messages she sent to me and images of the poison, I took her to the police station.”
“But that wasn’t enough evi…”
“Evidence?. I had a lot of it. You’re not the first girl she tried to kill. Any girl who came close to me be it friend or relative, always had an accident. I had my doubts but I still got her investigated and got all this information, which I presented in court and she was sentence to 40 years in prison.”
One thing led to another and Chris and I started dating. Though I faced a lot of rejection from his family, I stood my ground.
Ever since he was brought back here on a wheelchair, he suffered so much trauma from the war, his superiors decided he stays back at
home and work there. He decided to go back to school and had his degree. Few years later he was promoted to the post of the Commissioner. It was as a result of this his promotion that Sophie his ex-girlfriend wanted him back so badly.
I helped him raised his son and after Three years of being together, I got pregnant. He later proposed and we got married.
I know you’re probably wondering what happened to my parents why I didn’t try to reach out to them. I knew my father had given up on me and probably thinks am death now. I couldn’t go back home anytime soon for fear of being attacked again by the Area boys. I read from the news that things got worst in my town and many youths, families ran for their lives. Those who didn’t have families out of town decided to run into the thick forest to hide.
My friend Maria had her family escaped too and they were now living with her. I had no way to contact my own family.
I secretly went to Church everyday to pray for them. Sometimes I imagine things like my father laying flat in a pool of blood, other times I had dreams of my mum screaming and pleading for mercy. After having this terrible dreams I would often Rush to the restroom and cried my eyes out making sure that my husband didn’t find out.
It was so difficult hiding things from him because he was very vigilant. Coupled with that, my swollen eyes sold me out in the morning.
It was on a very bright Sunny day that I got the shock of my life. I had just finished preparing Roy, my husband’s son and myself. We were about going out to get ice cream that afternoon. He was seating in the living room waiting for me when suddenly my husband drove in with some strangers.
He rushed in and called
“ Mum!! Please open the door, Dad’s here with some strangers. He asked me to call for you to come down stairs.”
“ Okay, Roy, will be there in a minute.”
I Didn’t think much about it so I rushed down to see who this strangers were. As I made my way down the stairs I paused in shock.
“ Mum!!”
