Some say lightening only strikes once but now I disagree with that statement.. It strikes twice.. The first one was my unexpected interception with Teddy, whom I’ve given hope of ever seeing and the second was the most shocking of all, I never thought I’d see Halima ever again.. I for one thought she was dead considering how old she was when I left, but seeing her here in front of me made me feel some kind of tremendous joy and the best part was, she lives across the street..
I was excited that I forgot that she had passed out, her cough was the thing thst reminded me the state she was in.. I took her in my arms and checked her out.. Her breath was getting slow so was her heartbeat..
Something was definitely wrong with Halima but what was I to do? Considering the way she is now… She might die and I can’t have that… Without wasting time, I picked her up and took her to the hospital on my bike.. Minutes later, we arrived at Nasarawa hospital along state road, the moment I parked my bike, I picked up Halima and rushed her into the hospital.. I went to the receptionist and asked if I could have a bed for Halima but the b*stard gave me a scornful and downgrading look.
.

Receptionist ➑ Kai, We’re out of beds..
.

Lily ➑ What? How?
.

Receptionist ➑ Look! Don’t disturb me.. I have other things to attend to.
.

I got so angry that I wanted to tear this guy’s throat out but I maintained my cool and confronted the b*stard in a civilized way.
.

Lily ➑ Kai Mr. Mallam… Listen to me you shit… If anything happens to this woman.. You’re going to pay with your life.. I demand a bed and I want it now.. If it’s money you want.. I can give it you.. SO STOP WASTING MY F*CKING TIME AND GET ME A F*CKING BED.
.

The Receptionist felt threatened by my statement and felt scared with the vicious look in my eyes.. Without wasting any time.. The fool quickly did as I told him, I soon got a bed and I laid Halima on it, but I didn’t stop there, I had to pay the Receptionist again so I could see the doctor first.. After some minutes, I got to the doctor’s office first, Halima was taken to the patient’s room by the nurses.
Here in the doctor’s office, I told him everything that happened to Halima, After he was done with some stuff, He and I left the office and went to check on her,.. I watched keenly as the doctor did some tests on her , after that, The doctor asked me to follow him to his office so that we could talk… Back at his office, the doctor looked at me gloomily before telling me what was wrong with Halima.
.

Lily ➑ Doctor what’s wrong with her?
.

Doctor ➑ (sighs) well, before I give you an answer. I want to know some things first.. Who’s that lady to you?
.

Lily ➑ She’s my guardian when I was at the orphanage home.
.

Doctor ➑ So you’re not related to her?
.

Lily ➑ No.. What’s with all this questions?
.

Doctor ➑ It doesn’t matter… Your guardian is suffering from heart attack.
.

Lily ➑ So? What causes that? What could possibly give her a heart attack?
.

Doctor ➑ Stress or anxiety.. It may seem that something disturbing is bothering her and If she doesn’t get a treatment soon, she won’t last long considering her age.
.

My heart felt heavy as I heard that.. Heart attack? And she wont last long.. Halima is very cheerful woman and a lively one at that, what could be possibly bothering her?
.

Lily ➑ So what now? Can you proceed with the treatment?
.

Doctor ➑ Not yet.. I’ll prescribe some drugs for her.. Your guardian needs to rest for a while, she needs to do something that will make her feel at home, something that will give her a peace of mind,. Treatments don’t usually always work.. What your guardian needs is a moment of solace and peace, something that will make her forget all her worries.
.

Lily ➑ Thank you doctor.. So can I take her home?
.

Doctor ➑ Well that’s your choice but I suggest she should spend the night at the hospital..
.

Lily ➑ alright.. Thank you for everything.
.

After I left the doctor’s office, I paid the money for spending the night in the hospital and the drugs the doctors prescribed for me.. After all that, I went back to the patience’s room and sat by Halima’s bed.. Thanks to the cool air conditioner in the room, Halima slept peacefully, the only problem in the room was the strong smell of anticeptic which filled the place.
I was still marveling about the fact that this nice old lady was living right next to me.. Unbelievable, I remembered the times we spent together at the orphanage and our awful departure, back then I didn’t even get to say good bye to Halima..
I reached out holding her wrinkled hands rubbing it softly, I was sure glad I found her if not she would have probably died this night, I would say Fate was involved in this. After a while, I fell asleep on my chair.. That night I had a dream, this dream was quite different from the others, in this dream I was standing on a long tall stone which was trapped in between a big hole, and around the hole there was huge field, the left side of the hill was dark and scary and on it the dead or the people I’ve murdered where standing still staring at me , amongst them I saw Ezekiel as well and on the right side of the field stood my mom watching me with a smile on her face, the place were she stood on was bright and beautiful , I wanted to reach out to her but there was no way I could, cause the gap between me and her was too big, then suddenly a bridge appeared linking me with my mom, I felt so excited that I began to walk towards her, just as I was halfway on the bridge, I heard some noise behind me, as I looked around I was shocked to see what was going on.. Behind me, The dead too had crossed over as well, a bridge too had formed in their own place, they crossed over theirs and began to make their way to the bridge where I was… Upon seeing that, I quickly ran as fast as I could towards my mother, She put her hand out in order for me to reach, just as I was inches away from reaching her, the bridge collapsed making me and the dead fall into the dark pit..

After that dream I woke up feeling a bit agitated, I looked around the room and saw that the sun was already up.. I left the room and entered the toilet washing my face.. I stared at the mirror for a while and went back to the room. As I got there, I saw Halima awake looking a bit disturbed, I rushed to her side holding her hands, She stared at me trying to know what was going on.
.

Lily ➑ Good morning..
.

Halima ➑ Morning.. Where am I?
.

Lily ➑ You’re in the hospital, everything is going to be….
.

I cut myself short after realizing what I was going to say… So I decided to use another term to calm her down.
.

Lily ➑ You’re fine now.. You’re safe.
.

Halima ➑ How did I get here?..
.

Lily ➑ You passed out last night and there was nothing I could do except to bring you here to the hospital.
.

Halima ➑ Thank you.. Do have a phone? I need to let my family know where I am.
.

Lily ➑ Sure.
.

I gave her my phone and she called her family to tell them where she is, she asked the name of the hospital and the room number and I told her,…. As she was talking on the phone, I couldn’t help but be surprised about her having a family, Halima never once told me about her personal life back in the days when we’re in the orphanage, I always thought she was alone, looks like I don’t really know her that much.
After a while she handed me back my phone after she was done with the call,…. Minutes later as we both sat in the room in silence, Halima was stealing glances at me, I however pretended not to see her, I was trying to find a way to talk to her but I felt nervous, finally Halima spoke breaking the the barrier of silence between us.
.

Halima ➑ You look very familiar young lady.. Have we met before?
.

I was surprised when she said that, She was now starting to remember me little by little, it will be only a matter of time before she knows who I am.
.

Lily ➑ Excuse me?
.

Halima ➑ I said you look very familiar.. Have we met before?..
.

Lily ➑ Uhm…. Yes.
.

Halima ➑ Really? Where.. I can’t seem to remember..
.

I got close to her holding her hands, staring into her face, Halima looked at me for while trying to figure out who I was but she couldn’t.. So I decided to burst the bubble.
..

Lily ➑ Don’t you remember me ma?.. Don’t you remember the little girl you used to give fura day nono back at the orphanage in your quarters?
.

Halima’s face calm face was soon replaced by intense shock as she heard what I said, she was in total disbelief.. She stared directly into my face as if there was something she was looking for, she slowly raised her hand touching my chin then my face altogether, she gasped and smiled then she pulled me closer and gave me a hug,… This moment touched us both that we began to shed tears, I on the other hands was just crying like a little girl that has just saved from her mother. Halima on her own part consoled me.
.

Halima ➑ Ya Allah.. It’s alright now Lily.. It’s alright.
.

Lily ➑ (crying) Sniff… I-I-I-I’m… sorry..
.

Halima ➑ Shush.. Calm down girl… Ahh.. Look at you… See how you’ve grown.. My God… Lily.. You’ve blossomed into a beautiful young flower.
.

Lily ➑ Thanks ma..
.

Halima ➑ Oh, we have a lot to catch up on..
.

Lily ➑ Yes we do…..
..

Halima ➑ So you’re the young lady making those awful noise last night ko?
.

Lily ➑ Yes. And I’m sorry.
.

Halima ➑ It’s okay.. You know its not proper to shout at night..
.

Lily ➑ So how are you feeling?
.

Halima ➑ Alhamdulilah… and thank you for all this….
.

Lily ➑ You’re welcome.
.

Halima ➑ So tell me about your new parents how are they?
.

I couldn’t possibly bring myself to tell Halima about my stay in Tayo’s house, so I decided to lie, after a brief moment, I dropped my fabricated story on her, Halima listened without saying anything even when I was done, she said nothing or questioned me about it.
.

Halima ➑ Kai.. Some people will never make heaven.. So that’s what this woman did to you after her husband died, she sent you out on the streets…
.

Lily ➑ Yes..
.

Halima ➑ I’m sorry Lily.. I really am.. So where do you stay now?
..

Lily ➑ I do live in Abuja, but I’m here on in kano working on a business.
.

Halima ➑ Really? What kind of business?
.

Lily ➑ Designer clothes like the one I’m wearing.
.

Halima ➑ I’m proud of you… So kin gama Makaranta (have you finished school)
.

Lily. ➑ No.. Not yet.
.

Halima ➑ hmm, well business is good but education is very important.. Understand? Find time for yourself and further your studies even if it’s just a diploma.
.

Lily ➑ Thank you ma, I will.. Uhm I’m also sorry for what happened those years ago.
.

Halima ➑ What happened?
.

Lily ➑ Well, before leaving the orphanage I said some awful things to me.. I’m sorry.
.

Halima ➑ Oh, it’s alright…. Besides you were just a kid and you’re very emotional… If I had known those cruel people would do this to you, I wouldn’t have allowed them to take you. But what’s done is done.. I hope you’re still a good lassie? (Laughs)
.

Lily ➑ Er.. Yes.. (Laughs)
.

Whilst we were laughing, a young beautiful Hausa girl walked into the room, from her appearance I’d say she’s 18 to 20 years old.. She quickly approached Halima checking on her to see if she was alright. As they began to talk, they spoke Hausa to each other, From the way the young girl was talking to Halima, I could tell she was grandmother plus she was using the term *Kaka* a Hausa term of Grandmother, after a while, Halima introduced me to her granddaughter but this time she used English.
.

Halima ➑ Kai Hauwa, this is the girl I’ve been telling you about.. This is lily.. Lily.. This is my grand daughter Hauwa.
.

Hauwa ➑ Nice to me you lily.
.

Lily ➑ Me too..
.

Hauwa ➑ Kaka told me how you saved her life… Thank you.
.

Lily ➑ You’re welcome..
.

Halima ➑ I see you two are making progress already… Can we go home now? This hospital stench is killing me.
.

Hauwa ➑ Do you mind tagging along with us?
.

Lily ➑ Not all all.. Let me go clear the bills then we can leave altogether.

#TEDDY

Two astonishing things happened yesterday, First it was the unexpected appearance of Lily after so many years and then the sudden death of one of the most popular lecturers in the campus.
The demise of Prof. Ezekiel was somewhat mysterious.. According to the news the man committed suicide in his own office, but we that know that b*stard well enough know it wasn’t true.. A man like Ezekiel was too much of a coward to commit suicide, even if he was granted direct access to enter paradise, he wouldn’t do it.. And Considering his mental state, Ezekiel wasn’t a disturbed guy.. He was always jovial and full of himself, a man like can’t just wake up and kill himself like that all of a sudden, there must be something behind his death.

The next day in the morning, I together with my course mates discussed about Ezekiel’s untimely death in our departments common room.
.

Teddy ➑ Serious.. That man was murdered.
.

Emeka ➑ Murdered? No… The goat killed himself.
.

Mirabel ➑ Looks like nemesis has caught up with him.
.

Teddy ➑ Ezekiel is not man enough to do something like that.
.

Emeka ➑It doesn’t matter, all I know is that he’s dead, toast, finished, Kaput, done for.. Hell is waiting for him on the other side.
.

Teddy ➑ Come on… It’s not good to wish a man something like that..
.

Mirabel ➑ He deserves what he got .. Imagine all the cruelty and wickedness he’s done..
.

Teddy ➑ Well, I hope he has served as an example to other lecturers like him.
.

Mirabel ➑ Amen o..
.

Emeka ➑ Ehn… Teddy?
.

Teddy ➑ Yes.. What is it?
.

Emeka ➑ Who’s that sweet candy you were talking with.
.

Teddy ➑ Who?
.

Emeka ➑ That super hot babe, fair in complexion, the one that dressed like a rock star.
.

Teddy ➑ How did you know that we met?
.

Mirabel ➑ Are you kidding? Nothing strange goes on in Buk without people knowing, that chick sure drew a lot of attention yesterday.
.

Emeka ➑ Absolutely… I even talked to her yesterday.. She asked me the location of Law department.
.

Teddy ➑ Really?
.

Emeka ➑ Of course… How do you know her?
.

Teddy ➑ Well, she’s a childhood friend of mine..
.

Emeka ➑ Ehn… Can you introduce me to her?
.

Teddy ➑ That’s not happening..
.

Emeka ➑ Man.. You’re too greedy.. You have Susan, why can’t you give me this one?
.

Teddy ➑ Well, let me be the first to tell you, Susan and I are no more .
.

Mirabel ➑ Really? What happened?
.

Teddy ➑ She and I had a fight over lily..
.

Emeka ➑ Lily Ehn? So that’s her name.. She’s really beautiful..
.

Mirabel ➑ So no more Susan and teddy abi?
.

Teddy ➑ Yes..
.

Mirabel ➑ You men are all the same.. Once you see a finer lady you dump the ones you have.
..

Teddy ➑ Hey.. Hold on.. You both know my relationship with Susan was just for beneficial purpose, it wasn’t because of love.
.

As we were arguing, Susan walked in with her friends, they were busy chattering and talking excited to one, they didn’t seem to notice our presence, My friends and I became quiet and eavesdropped on what they were saying.
.

Susan ➑ Hmm, last night was fun o… Alhaji Bature was sure generous….
.

Anita ➑ Hmm, girl you’re lucky o… That’s why dating Hausa men sure has its peaks…. It’s easy to tap cash from them.
.

Debby ➑So when are you going to meet him again… We’d like him to introduce us to his friends.
.

Susan ➑ Don’t worry.. It will be soon..
.

Anita ➑ See your yeye boyfriend with his loser friends…
.

Susan ➑ Forget the loser jor… Who needs him…
.

Debby ➑ Maybe the girl has ditched the idiot… What girl in her right senses would hang out with that fool anyway..
.

I looked at my friends squarely one after the other, They too were surprised by what they heard.
.

Emeka ➑ Unbelievable…
.

Teddy ➑ So Mirabel, you were saying….
.

Mirabel ➑ Hmm, I can’t talk o… This one is just too much… Sorry o.. Pele.
.

Teddy ➑ Well, I don’t care.. She can go do whatever the hell she wants.
.

In that moment, My phone rang, as I checked who the caller was, it was Lily, I quickly answered her call to see what’s up.
.

Teddy ➑ Hello.. Lily.
.

Lily ➑ Hello Teddy… How are you?
.

Teddy ➑ I’m fine… You?
.

Lily ➑ I’m good… Are you busy now?
.

Teddy ➑ No…
.

Lily ➑ Good, cause I’m right outside..
.

Teddy ➑ Outside? Where?
.

Lily ➑ Turn around..
.

The moment I did that, I saw Lily standing outside the common room, her dressing was still the same as last time but there were some differences her short jacket was sea blue and as for her underwear she wore a black crazy jeans which shaped her hips and thighs… She walked into the common grabbing everyone’s attention, she pulled a chair and sat next to me.
.

Lily ➑ Hello.
.

Teddy ➑ Hi..
.

Lily ➑ You look awful.
.

Teddy ➑ You look lovely..
.

Lily ➑ Thank you..
.

Teddy ➑ You’re welcome..
.

After that, we bursted out and started laughing, everyone was just staring at us, especially Susan and her friends, the jealous look on her face made me laugh even more, she’s not the only one who can play dirty.
.

Teddy ➑ So what brings you here?
.

Lily ➑ To see you of course.
.

Teddy ➑ By the way.. These are my friends.. Emeka and Mirabel… Guys.. This is lily.
.

Mirabel ➑ Hi… Nice to meet you.. (Ashawo)
.

Lily ➑ Same here.
.

Emeka ➑ Hi.. I believe we’ve met..
.

Lily ➑ Of course.. So teddy what are you up to now? I want us to go somewhere and have fun.
.

Teddy ➑ Well, I’m about to have lectures in an hour.. How about we meet later in the night?
.

Lily ➑ No.. I’ll be busy tonight.. I have business to attend to. We’ll have to meet tomorrow..
.

Teddy ➑ Okay then.. See you tomorrow..
.

Lily ➑ Okay… Oh I almost forgot…. Come here teddy.
.

Lily pulled me closer to her and landed a swift lustful kiss on my lips.. Everyone was too dazed and shocked to say anything, Susan who couldn’t control herself blurted out in anger.
.

Susan ➑ What’s the meaning of this? This is a school not a club.
.

We both ignored her and continue kissing, seconds later, Lily let go of me and went her way giving me a wink, as soon as she left Susan confronted me.
.

Susan ➑ You have no balls Teddy, what was that all about?
.

Teddy ➑ Huh?
.

Susan ➑ Don’t pretend you fool.. Don’t you have any shame at all.
.

Teddy ➑ Look! Mind your business.. I thought you were seeing Alhaji Bature? Did you see me nosing into your affairs? Come on guys, let’s go.
.

Susan ➑ Go ahead! walk away you loser, you think just because you tangle with some ashawo, you think you’ll make me jealous.. You’re an empty shell of a man.. Nonsense.
.

Teddy ➑ Yeah… Whatever, at least at the end of the day, I won’t get HIV in the end.. Foolish b*tch.
.

After that, I left the common room with my friends leaving Susan in the place as she kept raving and cursing in anger.
.
