“Smith Thompson, so you truly made Tony do this? You bastard!!!”. Mr Jordon punched him on his jaw and he fell on the floor.

Smith touched his bloody jaw. “How did you find out? He told you?”.

“Is that all you have to ask me!!!”.

“I am sorry”.

“You allowed that poor boy to go to jail for five years!!!”.

“Mr Jordon, let us put all that in the past”.

“Put all that in the past? Never!”.

“So, what do you plan to do? Lock me up in jail?”.

“Yes! You will remain in jail all your lifetime”.

“It is all over the internet that politician Smith Thompson’s had truly made his personal assistant commit that act and cowardly lied about it so that his daughter will go to jail”.

“You ruined my career!!!how dare you!!!”.

“The likes of you don’t deserve victory”.

“I deserve everything!!!”.

In a split of seconds, the police appeared and took him out.

They forced him into the van and sped off.

The knock on his door was nearly deafening.

He rushed to open the door.

It was Clara Thompson.

She glared at him. “Are you this despicable?”.

He was confused.

“You went to jail for my father and still exposed him?”.

“Exposed him?what are you talking about?”.

She replayed the recording that Gretta had given Joshua. “How could you do this to my father?”.

“I did not do that”.

“Stop the lies”.

Gretta appeared at the door. “He did not. But I did. I did it to end every manipulation you had under your sleeves”.

Clara slapped her. “How dare you!!!”.

“I will help you, Clara”. He suggested.

She walked away.

#FINALEPISODE

“Catherine was Clara’s best friend but she died of cancer and Clara was by her sickbed when she closed her eyes that black Wednesday. Well to cut the long story short, Catherine’s parents took Clara as their own child since they lost Catherine. Clara began to call them her godparents. One-day, Catherine’s father decided to sell his cocoa plantation farm and he did that and gave Clara all the money that he had acquired from it. He gave her his cocoa plantation analysis. It contained tactics of grooming one’s farm in a short while without going through a long process and it also contained secret fertilizers that also help the plants more fruitful. Clara gave them to you just a month after her father was locked up in the cell”. Gretta narrated to Tony as they both sat outside the house.

“…she looked very angry the last time she came. What will make her still help me with my farm business?”.

“She wants you to release her father. That is a tactic. Another tactic. Don’t fall for it”.

“I was not the one that locked him up in the first place. It was you”. He said to her cynically.

“I did it for you! They have to legally pay for their crime! Justice! You need justice!!!”.

“I don’t need justice! I just need love! The woman I love! Nothing else! All these wealth I acquired, I don’t find pleasure in any other of them. The only thing I find pleasure in is Clara Thompson. Yes, she might not love me enough and she might not be the best woman on earth but my own kind of love is not because I feel that the person must be qualified to gain my love. My own kind of love is a sacrifice”.

“So, what are you insinuating right now?”.

His phone rang. It was Fred.

“Did you hear the news? Clara’s father was just rushed to the hospital this morning after fainting in the cell”.

He rose to his feet. “Why?”.

“He has cardiovascular disease. He has always had it. That was why Clara always protected her father all these while”.

He drove immediately to the hospital as directed by his friend.

He was led into the ward that Smith Thompson was lying in.

Clara and her mother were sitting by him when he walked in.

He was expecting them to shout and curse at him when they saw him but instead, their eyes softened at the sight of him.

“I remember how the four of us had gathered often like this during the years and how I and my wife had watched you both go to the university to study” Smith Thompson said weakly as he found his voice on his sick bed . Tears filled his eyes as he stared at Anthony. “I am sorry for acting like a stranger and betraying you after all we shared. I even shared more secrets with you than my daughter or wife when we were alone together and had to talk man to man. I am sorry for allowing you to waste five years of your youthful age. Please find a place in your heart to forgive me. When I watched the president of Nigeria recommend your art gallery, I became so ashamed of myself because I had believed that nothing good could come out of you because of your humble beginning”.

Anthony felt so worried at the state of Smith Thompson. He turned to Clara. “Why didn’t you tell me of your father’s disease?”.

“I did not want to use that to play self pity with you. I am sorry”. Clara said as she teared out. If my father had stayed in prison last five years, he wouldn’t have survived till now”.

“Are you saying that the cell that he was just locked up in for two months worsened his health?”.

She sobbed. “The doctor just told us to be mentally prepared”.

Suddenly, Smith Thompson coughed heartily and the doctors rushed in.

Clara tried to assist the doctor as they used the oxygen to try to keep him stable but Smith Thompson’s eyes remained close and his body remained stiff.

Just as Anthony was about to condemn himself for everything that had happened to Smith Thompson, Clara hugged him and sobbed uncontrollably. “Father is gone. Please Tony, don’t leave me too or I will take my life”.

He stared down at the stiff body of Smith Thompson.

Just like that, he had died.

And that man that he had once been so angry at looked so pitiful that moment.

“I am never going to let go of you anymore, Clara. Never”. He whispered to her as she remained in his arms.

The lingering sound of the sobbing of mother and daughter.

It lingered in the air.
