EPISODE EIGHT
MY STRANGE NEIGHBOR ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ Written by Nicholas Stephen
“Have you completed the task?”
“Please. Please I can explain..”
“Explain what!!!” She shรตuted, pointing me the staff.
She conjured a dark smoke in her snake’s mouth staff and was about to fling it at me. When I knelt down to beg her, she paused. Reconsidered and took it back.
“Please… Please… Just give me some time.. Please. Please.” I kept begging her in tears while holding her leg.
“If you come back to this place without completing the task… I’ll kรฎll you.. When you dรฎe here you won’t be able to wake up.”
“Please.. Please I’ll do it.. Please I’ll do it. I don’t want to dรฎe please… Please please I’ll do it…”
She abruptly materialized a sand like mirror and I was seeing pastor in the patient ward sleeping.
“Stay away from that man!” she yelled, pointing at it.
“Okay… Okay… I will… Please.”
“Hahahahaha don’t say I didn’t warn you. Because when else you come, I won’t be merciful!” She laughed, leaped up and varnished.
Immediately the mirror varnished with her, I woke up.
I wanted to get up but the pains made me to remember that I was under treatments. My legs were bandaged. Some part of my skin were plastered as well.
I shook my hand on my pocket and saw that the leaf was still inside but it had squeezed and looking dried
“How do I press the water from this leaf.” I questioned myself.
“Phew…” I sighed and rested my head on the bed.
I later got discharged from the hospital after spending six weeks.
I hadn’t had any encounter with the woman since then. I was always startled each time I flash back to what she told me during our last meeting.
Pastor on the other hand needs more weeks till full recovery.
Mum and dad kept praying and giving me some of the drugs prescribed by the doctor. They also bought me eye drop and I had been using it for over a month. The pains subsided but it was still swollen.
Since I got discharged I hadn’t seen the woman anywhere around her house. It appeared as if she had traveled but her words kept ringing on my ear because I don’t want to dรฎe and the leaf she gave me I couldn’t find it…
I woke up one morning and saw the same leaf close to the door, in the same spot I saw the previous one, and I was lucky because I was the first person to wake up that morning. I had no idea how it got there in the first place, and I recall vividly that I misplaced the previous one…
I took the orange leaf and went to hide it inside one of my jackets pocket.
When mum woke up she rushed to meet me in the couch.
“Shedrack…. How are you..”
“Good morning mum.. I’m fine…” I answered.
“Morning my son. What about the eye. Is it still paining you?” She questioned me, while holding my head and taking a deeper look.
“Don’t worry my son. Make sure you keep on taking the drugs.” Mum uttered, looking so sad.
“Okay mum.” I answered.
“That dรจvil that’s doing this thing to my son. God will soon embarrass you…” Mum shouted, cleaning her eyes with her wrapper.
Mum prayed with me for a while and left.
She came back and woke Esther to prepare breakfast before leaving.
I went to get the leaf.
Then, I entered the kitchen and took one of the cups.
“What do you want to do with that cup in this early morning?” Esther questioned me..
“Esther just do what you’re doing okay.. Please… I don’t need too much questions right now..” I told her.
“Okay. Sorry. Hope the eye drop and the drugs are working… Shedrack the eye is still swollen oo..”
I just remained silent and left.
I entered inside the bathroom with the cup. After observing that no one was coming, I shut the door.
I brought out the leaf and began to squeeze it with my hands to the point that the water would be gushing out..
While I was squeezing it, mum quickly opened the door and caught me red handed.
“Shedrack what is it again naa… What is that thing you’re holding? and what are you doing with our cup inside the bathroom?”
