*EPISODE 9*
(LOVE AND DECEPTION)
When Belinda went back home that day, she was totally confused trying to figure out who amongst the two guys were saying the truth. She recalled the words of Felix which said,
“……there is more to what you saw at the balcony.”
And then Benjamin’s words which said,
“…. What you saw at the balcony was not really what you thought it was.”
She threw herself on her bed, took a deep breath and stared helplessly at the ceiling.
“One of them is definitely lying to me. But why would that person want to deceive me?.” She wondered.
Then she flashed back to how she fell on Benjamin’s body and how he had pulled her back himself when she tried getting off his body. Remembering that incidence made her blushed effortlessly.
“That was so sweet of him to have remembered how I fell on his body on my first day in senior high school. Awwn….but wait a minute. Belinda why are you blushing over this? Why are you even smiling? What if he is now a play boy who is now good with sweet and soothing words?. Wake up Belinda. Wake up.” Belinda said slapping her cheeks repeatedly. “But on a second thought, Benjamin is such a handsome man. I felt his chest and it was warm and…..oh my goodness. What am I even saying right now?. I really need to distract myself a little bit. Yes. Let me place a call to all my creditors.” She said getting off her bed.
At the Johnson’s mansion, Mr. Johnson and his wife Mrs. Geraldine were watching a football match when Beatrice and her mother entered the sitting room.
“Good day dad. Good day mom.” Beatrice greeted walking up to them.
“Good day sir. Good day ma’am.” Her mother greeted following her from behind.
Seeing Grace made Mrs. Geraldine uncomfortable and jealous that she stood up from where she was sitting.
“I think you have a visitor. I will be in my room. Call me when your guest is gone.” Mrs. Geraldine said rolling her eyes at Grace (Beatrice’s mom) who smirked at her.
“Dad, I will be in my room as well.” Beatrice said after which, she walked away.
“Hmmmm. Grace what brought you here? I thought I’ve told you not to barge into my home unannounced and uninvited?.” Johnson asked In a calm tone putting off his sunglass.
“I’m sorry sir. It was a matter of urgency.” Beatrice mother said.
“Alright then. Do have a seat.” He said sitting upright.
“Thank you sir.” She said sitting on the couch that was beside him.
“So what’s this urgent matter all about?.” He asked curioused.
“It’s about our daughter.” She said.
“Is she sick?.” He asked.
“Not at all sir. I just came to tell you how much she has grown to love Benjamin the son of Gideon. She is scared that one of all these random girls might come in between them.” She said.
“Hmmmm. So what exactly is she expecting me to do?.” He asked confused.
“I was thinking, since they both have known each other for years now and are very close to each other, maybe it’s high time you suggested marriage to his family.” She said.
“That would only look like I am trying to force my daughter on their son. Besides, it is the man that should be making the first move not us.” He said.
“Not when you are the one to gain more from it.” She said.
“How do you mean?.” He asked attentively.
“Getting their son to marry our daughter, will make your bond and friendship stronger. And Marrying into the Gideon’s family can strengthen your finances. Remember they are the largest share holders in your company. Have you ever imagined what would happen to the company if they stopped buying your shares?. Remember anything can happen at anytime. But if they get married, they would be forced to cooperate. Most especially when you have your daughter interceding on your behalf.” She said.
“That’s a brilliant idea. I never thought about this. I will discuss things with Gideon to hear his own thoughts on getting our children married.” He said.
“Okay sir. Thank you so much.” She said smiling profusely.
Belinda finally got employed to work as Benjamin’s personal assistant which came with a mouth watering salary. Working with him brought back old school memories. And practically rekindled their friendship.
Felix returned from the states days after. After work, Benjamin dropped Belinda off at her house and drove back home. As soon as Belinda entered her sitting room, she was shocked to see Felix chatting happily with her mother.
“Felix? Is this really you?.” She asked in disbelief.
“Yes sweetheart. I’m back.” He said smiling at her while spreading his arms for a hug.
Belinda embraced him warmly and they both chatted for a long time. When he was done and about to go, Belinda saw him off to the gate where he turned and said.
“Do you still think it’s best we remained friends rather than lovers?.” He asked out of the blues.
“Felix…..not again.” She said.
“I’m really trying so hard to remain a friend to you. But it’s not working. My feelings for you keeps getting in-between. So I was thinking, how about we go out on 3 different dates? And if after the dates, you still don’t have any feelings for me, then I will gladly let you go.” He said.
“But….” She tried to talk but Felix didn’t allow her to give him excuses.
“I will take that as a yes Belinda. Let’s see how things turn out after we’ve gone on three dates. Goodnight beauty.” He said smiling at her.
Belinda was speechless and confused as she watched him drive away.
When Benjamin got home, He met his father waiting for him at the sitting room. As soon as he entered and greeted him, he said,
“Welcome son. I would like to have a word with you.” He said.
“I hope all is well dad?.” Benjamin asked curioused.
“Yes son. All is well. Come have a seat.” He said.
Benjamin walked up to him and sat beside him.
“I’m listening.” He said.
“What do you think about getting married into the Johnson’s family?.” His father asked.
“Father where is this coming from?.” He asked confused.
“It was brought to my notice that you have been close to their daughter for years now. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with you getting married to her. Or is she not good enough?.” His father asked.
“Not that she is bad but I see her as a sister and a friend. No special feelings attached.” He said
“Feelings do not grow in a day son. I have spoken with her father and we’ve decided to let you both go on a date. Maybe after that, you might both discover your true feelings.” He said.
“Father….?.” He tried to give excuses.
“This discussion is over son. I’m hoping to get positive feedback from you.
