My Heart Still Beats For You
Episode 11
Laying on the bare grassy ground, the flames sent shock into my body. I felt so light headed that I couldn’t think straight anymore. I could still hear the police sirens ranting in the air. I laid flat on the floor, still felt blood trickling down my forehead.
Taking a shot of a very deep breath, my eyes gave in to the weakness, it closed up not minding if I still wanted to remain conscious.
The beeping of a machine woke me up, I blinked my eyes so reluctantly, and a head knocking pain came like a thunder strike in my head. I groaned so noisily as l could tell bandages were already wonded on my head.
I layed flat as l made to relax my nerves. A sudden smile came to my lips, a smile that told me I wasn’t dreaming of being free, I was finally free from John, free from Alan.
The door to the room that I was kept swung opened and a man in white and another in casual wears came in. The man I presumed to be the doctor looked so pitifully at me, he made to check my pulse with his fingers on my wrists and then he brought out his stethoscope, placing it on my chest and acting all weird.
He nodded his head and proceeded to say, “thank goodness you are stable now. You’ve been in a coma for 3 days now. You really need to rest,” he said as he gesticulated with his hands.
He picked up his note and he made to excuse me and the other young man. The man didn’t take his eyes off me, he looked at me throughout the whole time. The doctor shut the door behind him and the other young man proceeded to move closer.
“Miss Dian! We are hoping for you to recover fully so as for you to give us a detailed statement of what transpired and led to the killing of the delivery man and also as to why you were being held as a hostage. I’m Daren by name, Miss Dian.”
Daren said as he gulped in saliva. “John’s body wasn’t found at the accident scene,” he made the last statement and my heart beat went haywire. I struggled to open my mouth and talk but it was way painful and discomforting. I had thought the nightmare had to an end.
Stepping into my home, I could feel the absence it felt without me around, being locked up by an obsessed maniac was something no one should ever experience. I took in a deep breath and the next second, l felt chills.
John’s body wasn’t found. John could still be alive and waiting for the perfect time to strike. Or perhaps he’s dead and his body has not just been recovered. I moved to the veranda of my home and a thought came to my mind.
Buying this particular house was one of my mistakes. I loved the view and tranquility but the pool at the backyard was not part of the plan. It was too wide to be called a pool and barely looking at me made me freak out at times. I barely went there, ’cause l didn’t know how to swim. I smirked as l made to turn and go into my room.
Taking a long shower, I spent a considerable amount of time in there, it was the only place l could find peace and ruminate about my life. A sound came from the living room, a shock gripped my entire being. I dashed out of the bathroom and went for a dress in my wardrobe.
I breathed do hard and cussed under my breath. Seeing a dog on the study table, I bursted out laughing. “Hey Max! What you doing here? I said jokingly as l made to wipe off my body and hair properly with a towel. Max was a dog that belonged to the neighbor at the other compound.
I didn’t know what the dog liked about me but it always comes whenever it sees me come to my home. It licked his mouth with his tongue and wagged it’s tail. It ran round the room and it was so unusual of him. He must have come through the veranda, I left the door opened.
I made towards the mirror in my room as l dabbed my hair with the towel. I suddenly felt chills in my body as l made to look at the mirror. A bloody inscription had been made on it. It was boldly written as l read each word one at a time, “My Heart Still Beats For You.” I screamed as l went falling to the ground.
Scrambling back to my feet, l went running out of the room. A lonely figure stood in the middle of the living room, and l felt my head suddenly going light. It stood unshakingly as l grasped for air. Pulling off his jacket, I felt irritated by the sight.
The skin of the man had been really burnt by fire. I went screaming at the top of my voice as l dashed out through the veranda. Hitting my leg on a metal that had been laying beside the door, my ankle made a twisting sound, I fell down with an impact. I gave out a loud scream as the dog went barking furiously.
The figure emerged from the house holding a machete in hand. I was weak to the bone as l made to get up from the floor. “John, I’m sorry. Please go away,” I said as l cried bitterly like a bay. The horror on his face made me wishing I could vanish into thin air. I walked with my back as he kept moving towards me.
I couldn’t run, and there was nowhere to run to, the veranda was enclosed, Max always made it through my home by jumping over. I dragged my wounded leg as l kept moving away from him.
“Ahhh!” I gave a loud scream as l found myself falling into water, I fell right into the deep pool. I struggled to get out as l kept gulping in water. John stood there as he watched me struggle to breathe. I was feeling too weak already and the last thing I saw, was John’s blo.ody face.
