“Come over here Cynthia”. Vero called me over her side smiling at me.
I sat beside her feeling uneasy wondering what is going to happen.
“Abi Dem wan initiate me ni? ha abeg God I no want ooo.” I thought while expecting them to talk.
“How are you young lady.” Her father asked.
“I’m fine sir.” I answered looking around shyly.
I looked at Gabriel whose head is down and wonder what he’s actually thinking right now.
“Are you with your passport?.” Vero asked.
“Ye….ssss “. I said stuttering and at the same time looking disturb.
“What did she want to do with her passport?.” Vero father asked.
“Don’t worry dad.” She said smiling at him.
“You have a lovely name Cynthia and you’re sure pretty.” Her brother said winking at me.
“Heh…heh! I don enter am this onevwey him dey wink like this hmmm.” I said in my mind smiling at him thanking him for the compliment.
“I think she can Excuse us sir so that we will talk about while I’m here because I still have an appointment by 5pm.” Gabriel said in haste looking at Vero sister as if angry with him.
“Ohh, you’re right ehm’ Vero I think judge should take your friend upstairs while we quickly discuss what brought this gathering.” Her father said as she signal to judge to take me in that she’s coming.
I stood up clumsy like a robot while looking back at Gabriel whose face as turn red as if boiling in anger. I entered with judge who was trying to make me happy and talked in a funny way that I’m not interested in at all.
“I hope she won’t take long because I left my mother alone at home.” I asked while seated on Vero couch in her room.
“She will be here soon Sha.” He answered playing with a fish pond placed beside the wall.
“I hope all is well with them sha? like she and her boyfriend.” I said trying to know what is going on.
“Ohh’ you’re now aware that he his her boyfriend.” He said laughing while touching around the pond base with is index finger.
“Yes I do because she told me on Xmas day and also introduce him to me.
“That’s good then, it’s just that Vero father called Gabriel because he was told to do something by his father in which he declined.
“What is that?”. I asked immediately.
He looked at me and shakes his head that he he is not going to tell me unless if Vero decided to tell me. I nodded my head knowing exactly what he should have told me that it is probably cocaine he is talking about.
“No problem.” I said.
He drag a chair closer to me and face me as I looked in awe on while he suddenly did that.
“What is it?. I asked.
“You’re pretty sincerely, wait are you single?.” He asked and I laughed.
“Come on stop laughing I’m truly serious right now.” He said while smiling.
“well….”
“If she’s single then I’m the right man for her.”
We both looked at the entrance and saw Vero brother standing there smiling at me. I laughed telling him I appreciate what he said but I’m actually not single.
“Ohh” thank God you said actually which means at the same time you might be single.” He said walking inside.
“I’m not single.” I said immediately trying not to make him feel relaxed about what I said earlier.
“How do you want me to believe you in as much you don’t have ring on your hand.” He said looking at my hands.
I told him it’s not compulsory to have a ring before letting people know I’m not single. Judge told me not to lie to Vero brother he is truly single and searching.
“God will provide his woman for him.” I answered hoping within me that Vero could come in on time because I’m not comfortable with both them right here.
I checked my phone screen for time and saw a message and checked immediately

I looked at the Text again repeatedly to try and understand what it meant but still I couldn’t, when is not like I’m going to do something.
“Who’s this person?.” I said to myself.
“Who is that?.” Vero brother asked trying to look at my phone as I covered it with my hands.
“it’s nothing.” I said smiling.
“Is there something bothering you?.” judge asked.
“At all I’m fine, I’m definitely fine.” I answered looking worried.
Vero brother said he would like me to think about what he asked from me as he left smiling at me. I was beginning to feel tired and wanting to go home because of my mother, I carried my bag and told judge that I don’t think I would be able to wait again because of my mother. He said I should wait a little longer that she ought to have been through. I sat back as the door open seeing Vero coming in looking sad.
“What happened?.” I asked going to her.
“He still wouldn’t accept me.” She said looking sad.
“You mean your boyfriend?.” Judge said looking at me.
“Don’t worry she knows about it already.” She said as I smiled at him.
“Should I go and talk to him for you.” I asked.
“Can you do it?.” She asked brightening her face.
“Of course! who be him wey I no fit talk to.” I said laughing.
“Will he even allowed you to come closer to him, because he is mysophobia. He might say you look dirty and not want you closer to him.” She said as I exclaimed pretending not to know.
“Really!! he as mysophobia? person wey no like dirt around them.” I said as they both nodded their head in affirmation. But I don’t look rough, I still look fresh and clean.” I said while smiling at them standing up and turning around.
Vero laughed while holding her stomach.
“Well, since you said you can try maybe you should give it a try if he won’t chase you away.” She said.
I jokingly said why will he chase me away when I’m not a dog and perhaps he is also human like me. So, Vero look out through her window and said he about living that I should run downstairs to meet him before he goes while they stay at the window peeping out to see how it goes.
“How will you say it? like how are you going to start the conversation? you know you two doesn’t know each other.” She asked and i told her to calm down as I’m expert in that aspect.
I hurried downstairs to Gabriel car and knocked his glass to roll down to talk to him as he did.
“What is it?.” He asked rolling down.
Seeing his eyes makes my heart beat so fast and lost in words.
“Ehm…ehn..I want to talk to you about something briefly .” I said as he stepped down from his car.
“I hope he is not going to beat her like this?.” Vero said looking at judge who shrugged his shoulder that they should keep watching.
He told me to move to the front and not to come near him. I did as he said and look straight into his eyes and back down and began to ask why he wouldn’t give Vero chance to love him.
“Are you cr@zy is this what you want to talk to me about?.” He said in annoyance.
“Ye…a*s and I felt like as a woman I know how it feels to be one sided love instead of it to be equal, please just give her a chance.” I said pleading. I’m just happy that you didn’t make it obvious that we have known each other and I’m glad about it.
“Why are you doing this to yourself? was the question he asked me next while looking at me with deep interest.
“I don’t understand, like doing what to myself?.” I asked so that he would clarify me.
He entered his car back and told me that I should return back to the person that sent me that he’s not interested in any bitch and gold digger!.
“I even thought you wanted to apologise for what you did last time not knowing you’re here because of who I don’t value!.” He said starting his car in annoyance.
“But wait don’t go like this now , at least still pretend to have heard me out so that I won’t be embarrassed.” I said banging his side glass.
He rolled down the glass and said something in whispered.
“DON’T PUT YOURSELF IN WHAT YOU WILL REGRET AND BE MINDFUL OF WHAT YOU SAY.” He said driving off immediately.
I stood at the front of the gate in shame not knowing how to go back upstairs with what he just did and at the same time wondering what he meant by his last statement. I started shouting pretending to be abusing him while going back inside.
“That boy is a very rude man, he will never listen to you.” Vero father said to me as I was going through the staircase to Vero room.
I entered in an annoyance looking at Vero and judge, both laughed esthetically.
“I told you he will never listen to you.” She said while I frowned my face.
“I accepted, he is truly rude I can’t lie!.” I said as both laughed again.
Some minutes later Vero asked about my passport as I brought it out, she asked if I would like a job to be giving to me by her father. I declined immediately saying i am not interested Because I’m not searching for work. She brought out a wrapped powder and sniffed in my presence with judge and I asked what it’s all about.
“This is a chalk.”
“Chalk? and you are sniffing it” I asked as they both laughed.
She stood up and told judge to bring a big box out from her wardrobe as she sat towards me smiling. She reminds me that she told me she has an important thing to discuss with me in which I nodded my head.
“So, here it’s.” She said and opened the box filled with the same chalk she’s talking about in different packages.
“What is important in this?.” I asked laughing standing up to carry my bag in other to go home.
At that moment I knew I’m about to embark on a dangerous journey that would hunt me for life. I laughed at her telling her I am not interested in knowing anything about it and I would like to go home because my mother has been calling me.
“Ohh’ really? but you should at least allowed me explain it to you because it comes with a lot of gain.” She said holding the said powder chalk up.
“It’s true Cynthia, you know I like you and wouldn’t want to put you in what is not good so trust her and hear her out first.
“Maybe next time then, I will come at a free time to listen to everything but for now I don’t think I can.” I answered already fidgeting and in haste to leave.
She stood up and followed me downstairs while holding my hands telling me not to worry too much about it if I’m not interested that she can’t force me. I stood at the junction of her house and took a motorcycle home.
“This was exactly statement she told Anita that she shouldn’t worry if she’s not interested in it. Ha! yeh! Cynthia I hope nothing will happen to me like this?.” I said with my hands covering my face in deep thought.
Next Day
I called Anita and told I what happened at Vero house as she shouted in fear that I shouldn’t have gone that why don’t I inform her before going.
“How will I know when she said it’s important.” I said.
“That girl is so cr@zy I’m happy that you didn’t talk the cocaine she called chalk powder, if not something else might have happened to you.” She said.
I blotted hot at her that she caused all these, when she should have told me onset the type of person Vero is, but instead put me into what I don’t even know what could happen to me any moment since I have also turned the offer down. I angrily throw my phone on the chair and sobbed regretting why everything seems to be in other way round for me.
“And I don’t even understand the parable Gabriel was even telling me, ha! God! please I need divine knowledge just tell me what to do this moment because I don’t really know right now!.” I said in tears.
I heard my mother calling me loudly from her room as if she falls. I ran inside with speed seeing my mom on the floor in pains.
“You should have called me na mom! why did you have to get down yourself? ” . I asked already shaking.
She couldn’t speak out clearly again as her hands also can’t be lifted. I ran outside to look for any car to carry her to the hospital as I pray silently for God intervention.
HOSPITAL.
She was carried in an hurry by the nurses and in some minutes the doctor came out that I need to make a deposit of 500 thousand because she needs to undergo a surgery immediately because her ligament around spinal cord has been shifted due to the heavy fall.
“Yeh!! doctor 500 thousand naira? just for deposit?.” I asked looking like a crazy person.
“You have to get it fast or else once it stiffed you mother will not be able to stand for the rest of her life.” He said going back inside.
“I reject it in Jesus name!! she will walk by the blood of Jesus, I will go and get the money now.” I said running out of the hospital and stopped immediately looking around. Where will I get the money sef ? who will give me such amount of money at this moment, my father, my father show yourself.
I dial Florence number and explained what happened to her.
“Jesus!! Cynthia 500 thousand? wait…wait let me call you back.” She said and hang up.
I was Disturbed, disorganized, traumatized infact insane because I only have 70 thousand left in my account and my mother savings as been used on her during her first medication at the hospital. Florence called back and told me to send my details and I did. in no time an amount that almost choked me physically popped up.
“2million!!!!.” I screamed for joy running back inside the hospital joyfully to pay for the deposit. But where did Florence see such amount of money, may God bless her for me oooo
I don’t even want to know about the outcome of the money for now the important thing now is my mother well being.
