Episode 5
The final straw
‘’today is finally your turn to participate in this’’ Kelvin announced when he summoned us for brefing.
‘’I won’t be joining you guys today but Zack will be in charge’’ he announced
‘’my friend Giwa told me about a birthday celebration of the governor’s daughter in the government house this evening. All the children of the political class in the country will be attending but who we are going after is the only son of the speaker of the state house. It’s a good deal because His father won’t let him spend a day before paying ransom. He normally goes around with only one security guy. I have an informant who will give me details of the car he will be on. So guys need to prepare, be around the speaker’s house on time and wait for more information’’ he explained while we nodded in agreement.
8pm,
We quietly waited a street away from the speaker’s house, nervous as ever. We were ready for action but as it was my first time of actively participating, I was a bit shaken up.
At exactly 8:15pm a hilux from the speaker’s house speed by and we quickly went in pursuit, blocked the car at a junction and fired sporadically in the air as we pulled the driver out. Unfortunately there was nobody else in the car apart from the driver.
‘’f**k’’ zack screamed and retreated. We headed back to our car and zoomed off
‘’no body is in the car boss’’ Zack frantically called Kelvin to explain
‘’but I was reliably informed the kid was in the car’’ he replied instantly. Unfortunately for us, little did we know it was all a set up by Giwa and the government to catch Kelvin redhanded.
We barely had driven further when we ran into a road block with trigger happy policemen blocking the entire road. Natt who was driving suddenly screeched the car and tried to do a u-turn but the policemen had no joy in them and opened fire instantly hitting him on the head while Fred who was beside him jumped out and tried to dive into the other end of the road. I wasted no time, opened the back door and followed him while Zack pulled out his AK 47 jumped out and fired blindly, but by then another team of policemen appeared with a hilux from behind and took him out.
Fred ran while I followed, soon overtaking him. I soon heard him hit the ground.
‘’’my leg oo’’ I heard him shout but I didn’t stop nor turned back. Luckily I escaped.
It was my first time being so close to death and was so shaken up. I managed to make my way to Kelvin’s house but unfortunately the whole place was already surrounded by the police and military as gunshots ran inside.
I stood a distance and watched, terrible shaken but more shaken when I saw Giwa in one of the police cars discussing with someone. I quickly realized the whole thing was a set up right from the start.
An hour later Kelvin body was brought out with ten of my fallen comrades. Kelvin died fighting. The only person I had grown to admire and love. I vowed to avenge him
