As the years passed, My life began to take some unpleasant direction.. My stay at Mr. Tayo’s house was fun at first but then things began to change and it wasn’t very pleasant.

Asimi’s attitude towards me had changed all of a sudden, her love for me had suddenly change to bitter hatred for no reason, she had still not given birth to any child since I came into their lives.. She and her husband still went to the doctors several times to check if everything was okay and the doctor said they were perfectly Okay.. Tayo was patient and prayed to God for his wife to give birth but as for his Wife, Asimi.. The stupid woman wasn’t… She even doubt if her husband was fertile… when she discovered nothing was wrong with him, she turned her blame towards me..

She accused and blamed me for being responsible for her not having a child.. I mean what kind of superstitious nonsense is this? For her being a christian, she isn’t supposed to be believing in such nonsense and why is she blaming me? She and her husband brought me into their lives.. So she shouldn’t put her blame on me.

Whenever Tayo wasn’t around.. She would be treating me harshly giving me hard and painful house work to be doing.. Sometimes, she even gives less food claiming I was getting too fat and lazy… To be honest.. I’m not lazy and my body isn’t the kind of body that gets fat no matter how much I eat.. She’s just being wicked towards me that’s all.

Just when I thought the punishment and the hard jobs were bad enough, she started beating me like an animal, any small mistake or flaw I made, she’d thrash me like I had done something unforgivable…
Tayo would stop her from beating me whenever he was around but when he was gone.. The beating and suffering continued..
At first I couldn’t bear it… But now I had gotten used to the beating… That it no longer hurts anymore…

But not everyday is an unpleasant and terrible day… There are sometimes when life was so better and blissful..
Like in school…. Not only was the most intelligent student in class but I was also good at sports.. I always beat my opponents in and out of the school… I was adore by all in the school and I had a lot of friends.. But they’re the kind of friends that stick with you when the going is good then abandon you when all is gone.. The only friend I had was Teddy, A sweet nice kid, he’s also an intellectual genius like me but when it comes to sports the guy is a flop..
We spend time together talking about our lives when we grow up.. We were in JSS classes then but we had dreams… Big dreams.

Teddy ➡ Lily, what would you like to be when you grow up?

Lily ➡ I really don’t know.. I was hoping to be a soldier you know.. Shooting and killing.. Fun right?
.

Teddy ➡ To be honest.. I don’t think you’ll be fitting for a soldier, you’re very bright and smart.. You should be more like a doctor.. Or a lawyer or..
.

Lily ➡ Please that’s boring.. I want to do something adventurous, you know.. Something that makes my blood boil and my heart racing all time.

Teddy ➡ You should be a Olympian or a gymnast , that’s all I can say..

Lily ➡ So what about you?
.

Teddy ➡ Me.. I want to be Pharmacist.. I want to be helping people who are sick.. I want to be the world a better place.. A world with hope.

Lily ➡ Hope is fake.. It’s never real, never was.
.

Teddy ➡ I believe in hope.. Without it, the world would be in Chaos.
.

Lily ➡ The world is already in Chaos.. You just didn’t know it yet but I have.. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
.

My mind raced back to the night my mom was brutally raped and murder in cold blood and the worst part is, she died on my birthday..
I still felt immense hatred for those men who took her from me.. And I swore to get even when the time is right.. That was why I had this passion to become a soldier.. So as to kill and exterminate people like them, people that take everything dear away from people.

Another fun moment I had was spending time with Silas.. Silas and I became friends, but he was more of a fatherly figure to me.. he was strict and never showed any emotions.. But he was still cool though..
Every time I came back from school and saw Asimi wasn’t around, I went straight to Silas’s house.. Since he was a former solider, he had nothing to entertain me with except to tell me stories about his days when he served in the army.. The most interesting part of his story was the missions he went on to.. Shooting and killing people.. My body twitched with excitement when ever he talked about it… He had a case of weapons which he showed me but he never allowed me to touch them …

Among his weapons, there is one that caught my eye, They were daggers.. The dagger were two in number and had a nice lovely design a of lily flowers on them.. And from the way, they were shining I could tell they were very sharp… I instantly went crazy over them… So one day I decided to ask Silas if he could give them to me as a gift..

Lily ➡ Uncle.. Those daggers.. Are they yours?
.

Silas ➡ No.. They’re not mine.. Remember that friend of mine that I told you about?
.

Lily ➡ Yes? Are they his?
.

Silas ➡ Yes… Those daggers may not look like much but they do a lot more harm.
.

Lily ➡ Can you give them to me? I really admire them.
.

Silas ➡ No.. Absolutely not.. You’re too young to handle such things.
.

Lily ➡ Okay can you at least teach me how to use them..
.

Silas wouldn’t agree at first, but after pressurizing him, he began to teach me how to use the daggers, the first step was holding them properly, Silas believed the way you hold a weapon shows whether you can handle it or not, and secondly, he taught me how to aim and throw them, he had one darting board in his room which he kept for me to practice…
Silas was impressed as he saw how good I was at throwing the daggers perfectly but he never allowed me to go out with them.

Even while at home and at school break, I’ll be using less harmful objects to work on my throwing, before long I was so good I could hardly miss.
Nobody knew I was spending my time doing this things with Silas, but my luck eventually ran out one afternoon.. As I came back from school.. I didn’t bother to check if there was someone in our house and it wasn’t my fault cause it was always closed. I rushed in straight to Silas’s house and spent some time there, unfortunately for me, Tayo had seen me enter the house and he came straight to Silas’s house.
I was the one who answered the door and was terrified when I saw him.

Tayo ➡ Lily what are you doing in there?
.

Lily ➡ I. I. I.
.

Tayo ➡ Answer me! So is that what you’ve been doing entering people’s house..
.

I was too terrified to say anything and I knew I was in deep shit, luckily for me, Silas came to my rescue.
.

Silas ➡ Afternoon sir.. Don’t be offended.. I asked her to be staying in my house since her mother isn’t always around in the afternoon.. This is been going on for some time now.
.

Tayo ➡ Seriously? But Asimi is supposed to be back by now.. What’s keeping her?….. Look, I’m sorry if we were a burden to you..
.

Silas ➡ No, I enjoy having this girl’s company, she’s quite helpful..

.

After that Tayo dragged me back home.. Later his wife Asimi came back home and confronted her about why she wasn’t home at the usual hour.

Tayo ➡ Asimi, where have you been?
.

Asimi ➡ Oh, I’ve been hanging out with my friends, is something wrong?
.

Tayo ➡ You know lily closes early at school, as her mother you’re supposed to be back home and take care of her but instead Our gloomy neighbor Silas has been the one doing the job..

Asimi ➡ Why beating about the bush, it’s just today that I’m late, that’s all.
.

Tayo ➡ Don’t lie woman, Silas told me this has been going on for a while now.. You need to amend your ways.. Thank God for Silas hospitality if not.
.

Asimi ➡ Look I don’t care about any Silas, besides what’s she even doing at his house? I hope he’s not having a good time entering her legs.
.

Tayo felt those words and slapped his wife.. Asimi was surprised as was I.. Tayo had never ever laid his hands on his wife until now.. Asimi rubbed her cheek and gave me and wicked look.
.

Asimi ➡ Because of this thing, you dare to slap me..
.

Tayo ➡ And i will again if you say those words ; What’s wrong with you? She’s a little girl and you’re not supposed to be saying such things to her. She’s your daughter..
.

Asimi ➡ No… SHE IS NOT MY DAUGHTER AND SHE WILL NEVER BE… As for you.. You’ll see.
.

Asimi took her bag and went into the room.. Tayo shook his head and brought me close to him assuring me nothing would happen and if I wanted anything.. All I had to do was ask and if he has the means , he will provide it. In that moment, The Hope I had doubted came into my mind.. Maybe Teddy was right, Maybe there is hope after all.

#Seven_years_later…..

The year was 2010, and things had been changing drastically.. Technology was wiping out the old system of doing things.. I was 17yrs old age by then and I was in SS2.
Despite how unfulfilling my life was, I was slowly becoming an adult and becoming a stunning young lady.. At this age, Tayo had granted me some amount of freedom to do as i please.. I was allowed to go anywhere I wanted but I wasn’t allowed to stay out late in the night and Going to Mr. Silas house was now a common thing.

Early in the morning, Silas and I would go out and jog, sometimes we would go to the gym and work out till we were exhausted..
Tayo never objected me hanging out with Silas since he knew nothing was going on between us, But Asimi… That b*tch claimed that I was having S*x with Silas.. Her hatred towards me grew over the years.. She was no longer beating me as she used to, all she do now was saying nasty things about me to people.. I didn’t care what she did.. and I don’t need to get to her good side, her husband’s love and parental care was good enough for me.

Even in school, Life wasn’t so bad.. I was admired by the teachers for my hard work, and best behavior, I gave every teacher his due respect and never had any problems with them.. But in life, if you have people that love you, then you’ll definitely have people that hate you… And that was the students…
Everyone of them thought I was using my beauty and charm to ace my way to the top, They even started a rumor I was secretly having S*x with all the male teachers.. The only one who knew me well and didn’t believe that rumor was Teddy.
Over the years, Teddy too had grown into a charming young guy.. We became closer than ever, that we were inseparable.. I too had taking an interest in Teddy but I never showed him any signs.. But I did notice him stealing glances at me one or two times before..
Even after school, we would hang out go to places before returning home.. Our favorite place to visit was the Zoo.

Hanging out with teddy was fun but I preferred hanging out with Silas.. Every weekends, we would out to some quiet place where he’d be teaching me how to shoot.. I wasn’t good with the guns but I was skilled with the twin daggers.. I was so good with it that it became a part of me.. I knew how to maneuver, control and use it. I had tried desperately begging Silas to dash me the daggers but as always his answer was NO.

One Saturday evening.. I was busy practicing throwing the daggers on a tree when I noticed Silas was staring at me.. I checked myself to see if there was anything wrong, seeing there was none, I decided to ask him why he was staring at me.

Lily ➡ Is there something wrong with me? Your stare is getting annoying, uncle.
.

Silas ➡ I’m just surprised to see how you’ve grown.. You’re beautiful,.
.

Lily ➡ Wow, that’s unlike you.. To be complimenting me..
.

Silas ➡ Yes.. (coughs) Your future is bright.. But if I may ask.. What are you planning to do with your life..
.

Lily ➡ Honestly.. I don’t really know.. All this time I never really thought about it..
.

Silas ➡ But what would you like to do now if you had the chance..
.

Lily ➡ To kill those that took my mom away from me..
.

Silas ➡ Your mom? What happened to your mom?
.

I didn’t want to talk about it.. But I had to tell Silas.. He listened to me with rapt attention till I finished my story.. He shook his head in pity and wiped my face as he saw tears in my eyes..
.

Silas ➡ (coughs) I’m sorry for your loss but Revenge won’t make your mom return.. It won’t solve anything..
.

Lily ➡ I don’t care. I want them to pay.. They took my life away from me and you expect not to do anything..
.

Silas ➡ Yes.. Have you ever killed someone? Because I have and the first time I did it it felt good.. But the killing doesn’t stop, you keep on killing and killing, there’s no end to it.. But the worst part is.. You won’t sleep in the night. The spirits of those you’ve killed will haunt you and drive you stir crazy.. That’s why most of us soldier become unstable when we retire.. That’s how you’ll feel if you kill those men.. Don’t let your life be like mine.. (coughs violently)

Lily ➡ Uncle, are you okay?
.

Silas ➡ No.. I’m not..
.

Lily ➡ You need to go to the hospital..
.

Silas ➡ No.. Don’t bother.. I don’t have much time anyway..
.

Lily ➡ What is that suppose to mean?
.

Silas ➡ I’m dying.
.

Lily ➡ What?
.

My heart stopped that moment, Was he really serious? What even confirm my fears was that, he was coughing a little amounts of blood.. My body felt weak at the moment…
.

Lily ➡ It isn’t true..
.

Silas ➡ I’ve been diagnosed of cancer.. It’s reached so deep, it can’t be cured anymore.. The doctor said I have about 3 months left… I’m so sorry girl.. Wish I could spend more time with you..
.

All I could do was hug him as I cried silently on his chest.. Why was it that everyone I ever loved is being taken away from me.. Mom was killed, I was taken away from Halima and now Silas..
Seeing how sad I was he patted my back slowly urging me everything was going to be fine… God how I hate that word.
.

Lily ➡ I don’t want you to leave..
.

Silas ➡ I’m sorry Lily.. My time is almost up.. There’s nothing I can do about it.. But I can do one thing for you.. Here take these, it’s yours now.
.

Silas handed over the twin daggers, for the second time since we were together, he smiled as he handed me over the dagger.. I collected them and thanked him.
After that, I helped Silas up and we both went home… As soon as we got there, I helped him into his house before going to mine.. Our other neighbors who saw me coming out of his house began to shake their heads and murmur silently.. I don’t care what they said…
As I was about to enter the house.. I heart my name being called, as I turned around I saw Asimi with some guy coming out of the car, I went to her and see what she wanted me for.

Lily ➡ Good evening.
.

Asimi ➡ Hold your greetings.. Come and pack these bags..
.

Obaro ➡ Hey.. Be careful with those bags, they’re expensive.
.

Lily ➡ I know what I’m doing..
.

Asimi ➡ Shut your mouth and pack these bags up. Nonsense.. Okay cousin let’s get inside..
.

Obaro ➡ Okay..
.

I couldn’t believe this idiot was her cousin.. Well, that isn’t my problem.. As I was carry the bags up, Tayo returned home from work.
.

Tayo ➡ Lily..
.

Lily ➡ Good evening sir..
.

Tayo ➡ Evening.. Who’s bags are these?
.

Lily ➡ They’re for Aunty’s cousin..
.

Tayo ➡ Where is he? These bags are too heavy..
.

Lily ➡ He’s inside.. He said I should pack the whole thing..
.

Tayo ➡ Don’t carry those bags.. Let him come and pick up his bags.. Nonsense..
.

Tayo went in and soon Asimi’s cousin came out frowning and muttering insults under his breath as he packed up his bags.. He tried bumping into me but I dodged out of his way.. As I followed him in, Asimi began to look at me in a wicked way and then she hisses.. I didn’t even bother looking at her, I went to my room and locked the door..
As I laid down on my bed… My mind went back to Silas.. I still couldn’t believe 3 months was all he had before he eventually goes away to the afterlife.. Before I slept I prayed silently to God to spare his life.
