THE HEART OF A WOMAN = EPISODE 6
“i can’t believe you said all those foul words to me. Seriously you just shocked me” i screamed weakly. He breathed deeply, stared at me for a while before drawing close to me.
“i’m very sorry dear. It won’t happen again. Don’t mind what i just said sweetheart” he apologized, calming me with his words even though i was far from being appeased.
His outburst really made me think deeply and recheck myself. I saw some truths in his words but there wasn’t much i could do about it nor was i ready to change my personality for him.
I grew up to be respected and obeyed. I was fond of making my decisions and I had never yielded nor submitted myself to any man apart from my dad who equally found it hard controlling me.
I looked at Kelvin with understanding and held his hand. Sure he felt caged under me, but what else was he expecting.
I was older, more successful and equally his old boss.
“Things can’t just change within a twinkle of eye. It doesn’t happen that way, moreover i do give him the respect he deserves but no he wants more and I can’t just turn into a little girl for him” i reasoned silently.
Very early the next day, Lydia showed up to pick me. I expected Kelvin to protest again but he did no such thing, instead helped me to gather my things, making sure i left nothing behind.
“Dearest, i do apologize for the decision i took. You know it’s for the best, we aren’t yet married to be living together. I promised to stay a week which i did. So don’t get mad at me. The house I’m equally acquiring is for the beautiful family we will be starting soon” i said to him, while Lydia rolled her eyes and scratched her hair.
“i understand my dear. Just get better and beautiful for me” he murmured sweetly, drew close and kissed me strongly. A very passionate kiss that stayed in my head for months…
“hmmm my dear i can’t help but smile over the scene you guys acted some minutes ago. You guys are just opposite of each other. You are dreaming in wonderland while he is struggling to wake up and bolt” Lydia joked as she drove me to her house.
“shut up” i screamed playfully. But dear me, she was right…

As Lydia drove away with Stella. I breathed deeply and dialed Lilian’s number.
“She just left with her friend. She’s gone” i informed her.
“hmmm that’s cool huh. Hope you are still coming over?” she asked,
“Yea” i answered, hung up and walked into my apartment.
I was a bit relieved to see Stella leave but i equally was scared because a big girl like her was capable of anything. Moreover she left with no just cause to be with her friend, which was kind of suspicious.
“well i know i tried to make her happy” i said to myself. My mind flashing back to how it all started.
Stella truly turned my world around, bringing me out of poverty to a life of happiness and i appreciated everything but to be sincere i was very scared of making her my wife because she was just a lady with strong spirit. She was very fond of commanding respect and equally behaved sometimes as if i was her junior brother while in return i always behaved myself in her presence. Always conscious of everything whenever i was with her..
Yes I behaved like a woman whenever we were together while she behaved like a man always making all the decisions. But no matter her behaviour she was very generous and deeply in love with me and i owed her quite a lot which was why i proposed to her out of gratitude….
Lilian on the other hand was very friendly, playful and extremely pleasant to be with. She was my close friend, colleague and mate. We shared almost everything together that people soon began thinking that we were having a relationship which i would have loved but Stella was in the way and it really wasn’t in me to cheat on a woman who changed my life, even though my feelings for her reduced by each passing day.
I remained committed to Stella. I had no choice than to continue loving her, which was why i felt so bad that she could decide to move over to her friend’s house and also get a new house without discussing it with me. It made me snap which i very much regretted…..
So watching her leave that fateful Saturday left a huge mark on me but i had no choice than to push away my feelings, freshen up and head over to Lilian’s house to finish a project report which we were to submit on Monday.
I had a very lucrative but demanding job that gave me no time to rest and enjoy the money i was making daily…

Scene: Lilian’s house
I walked into Lilian’s spacious living room, holding two files with my right hand.
I was very tired and hungry, but kept a smiling face as if all was well. Gently i quietly lowered myself on a couch, breathing deeply.
“are you alright?” Lilian asked with care, drawing close to me.
“yea i’m, though hungry” i answered playfully.
“well breakfast is ready. You are very lucky i’m eating late today. You would have missed it, let’s go to the dining table” she invited sweetly. I stared at her, shook my head and smiled.
“Don’t tell me you are ready to share your breakfast with me?” i asked jokingly,
“Abeg stand up jare. It’s just bread that i’m having, which you know i can’t finish alone. So get your lazy a*s up” she smiled and headed to the dining room. I quickly followed her, many thoughts running through my head.
She obviously was the kind of woman i needed to make my wife. She really understood me a lot and we behaved like age mates which made being with her very exciting. Moreover I felt more like a man with her.
As if she knew what i was thinking. She asked me a very surprising question as she prepared tea.
“Hope Stella cooks?” she suddenly asked,
“hmmm yea, she cooks whenever it pleases her but that won’t be a problem because i know she will be getting our home filled with house-helps” i answered with a smile.
“hmmm that’s cool” she murmured and said nothing else…

LYDIA’S HOME
Stella’s story continues…
Lydia led me to a well furnished room she prepared for my arrival. I was so astonished at the beautiful well designed room that i gasped with bright eyes.
“i hope you like it?. You are a big girl with high taste” she smiled to me. I nodded happily.
“of course i love it. It just looks like a presidential suite. Oh my God” i thanked her, my eyes going round the room.
Everything was just in there. Super blankets, nice curtains, state of the art electronics, a working bathtub. Infact nothing was lacking.
“I just love the colour and settings of everything. You will have to design the house you are getting for me like this. I will like to surprise Kelvin with the house” I said happily, while she rolled her eyes and smiled.
I calmly sat on the gigantic bed and dialed Kelvin’s number which he answered on my fourth call.
“hey dear what took you so long to answer my call. Where went you?” i asked curiously,
“i’m so sorry dear, i never knew my phone was on silent mood. I’m really very busy with a proposal I’m submitting with my colleague on Monday” he explained.
“your colleague!, Is Lilian there with you?” i suddenly asked without knowing what pushed me. He kept quiet for some seconds.
“yes she is” he answered slowly, leaving me feeling extremely bad with his answer. I instantly hung up and exchanged glances with Lydia who i knew overheard everything.
“that loser is with him” i murmured, almost breaking down in tears.
I had nothing against the little girl at the moment but i hated everything about her….

“Once i get better and strong, I’m going to have a very long talk with that silly girl” i hissed angrily, shaking with rage.
“You mean Lilian?” Lydia asked curiously, softly taking my phone.
“Yea and kelvin is also not left out. They think I’m stupid. Well they are in for a good surprise” i answered angrily.
“You got to be careful and diplomatic my dear or you might end up pissing off your Kelvin. As it stands you have no strong evidence to back your suspicion, so i advice you stay cool and study the situation. That Lilian of a girl looks very smart and sharp. I also know guys hate being spied on. Its better you work things out with Kelvin since he is your everything” she advised, calming me with her words. I looked at her, smiled and nodded.
“okay maybe i should just lie down and sleep over it” i said with a weak smile._

scene: Lilian’s apartment.
Kelvin’s story continues.
“i think Stella is mad at me because i told her we are together” i calmly said to Lilian as i dropped my phone (after answering Stella’s phone call).
“Well it’s understandable” she smiled without looking at me. All her attention were on the report she was preparing. I breathed deeply and joined her.
It took us close to three hours to finish the work. By the time the work was completed we were hungry over again.
She had to prepare a delicious beans which we ate with great appetite.
“So what do you think about my relationship with Stella?” i suddenly asked. She looked up at me for a second before shaking her head.
“Should you be asking me such a question?” she asked, trying to dodge my question.
“Of course because you are my friend” i answered with a smile.
“As long as you guys are happy together what do you expect me to say?. Yea your relationship with her is cool” She answered intelligently.
“Supposing I’m your brother will you approve of it?” i asked curiously. She froze for a while before standing up.
“What are you trying to achieve huh?” she asked with a slightly raised tone.
“Just tell me please” i begged.
“Of course you know i won’t approve of it. Your relationship with her is just one sided. You do all the submitting which shouldn’t be. Please don’t ask me anymore questions” she begged.
I looked down with shame in my eyes. I couldn’t believe my relationship with Stella could be so easily read.
“If Lilian could read out the facts so easily, how about my parents. What will they say when i finally take Stella to them?” i wondered miserably. But there was nothing i could do about it. I felt it was my fate to Marry Stella whether i liked it or not.
After all i owed her my life….

Kelvin’s story continues
“Well there is nothing i can do. Stella gave me a new life, which you very well know. Abandoning her at this stage is very unheard of. I have no choice” i murmured, scratching my head.
“I have no right to be discussing this issue with you. Just do whatever that pleases you. It’s your life after all” Lilian said coldly, forcing me to stare at her with worry.
“Are you upset?” i asked curiously,
“Of course not, but i hate dumb guys, you rather subject yourself to a life of slavery and misery than facing your destiny like a man” she screamed, breathed deeply and headed to the kitchen. I watched her walk away, not knowing what to do.
“Sometimes doing the right thing can be very wrong. No i can’t just face Stella. What do i tell her?. No no no, i can’t. Yes my feelings for her isn’t as it used to be but i can’t break up with her even if it’s the right thing to do. No no no” i reasoned, stood up and went after Lilian, joining her in the kitchen.
“hey dear. I’m sorry to upset you. Let’s just forget about my problem. I’m a big j**k. How about we go out and catch some fun huh. You know all work and no play isn’t good for the body” i said sweetly, holding her hand. She turned, looked at me and smiled.
“Very well, where are you taking me?” she asked with bright eyes.

Stella’s story continues
I woke up with a jolt, lazily grabbed my phone and checked the time which showed 7:15pm. I gasped.
“Jeez, i can’t believe i have been sleeping all day” i murmured, yawned, turned on the bed and dialed Kelvin’s number. He answered moments later, but there was too much noise in the background.
“Hey I’ll call you back. I’m in a noisy place” i heard him say before hanging up. I hissed, feeling very bad.
Very early the next day. Kelvin showed up at Lydia’s house, surprising me a great deal. He gently came to my room, sat on the bed and kissed me.
“i called you last night but you didn’t answer. So i decided to see you first thing today. How are you my love?” he asked. I stared into his eyes and bit my lips.
“Let’s stop pretending. A lot is going wrong in our relationship and i have strong reason to believe that your colleague Lilian is influencing you a lot. I hope she isn’t more than a colleague to you? It’s time to choose between me and her who you actually want. I’m a woman of honour and i hate playing games. Tell me who you choose?” i asked seriously. He drew back with surprise, instantly growing pale.
“What’s wrong with you sweetheart. Are you out of your mind or what? How do i choose between my colleague and you? Hope you won’t be asking me to quit my job next because i won’t. I can’t stand your over- authoritative behaviour anymore. This got to stop or i quit this relationship” he angrily scolded, leaving me gasping with shock.
I furiously held him by the collar, ready for a fight. My head was filled with anger and hate.
“What did you just say?” i screamed, almost choking him. Fortunately Lydia ran into the room that moment to save the day….
“i’m sorry but i’m leaving” he finally muttered, causing more damage to my already wounded heart with his words.
“jeez Kelvin, calm down. You shouldn’t be saying those words” Lydia pleaded strongly.
“My mind is made up. I just can’t take it any longer. We have to be honest with each other. Our relationship can’t continue anymore. I’m just Stella’s toy, nothing more. I’m ending the relationship” he poured out to my friend before heading towards the door.
I stared at my Kelvin, not knowing what to do. I was so stunned and shocked. I never knew he could be bold enough to utter such words to me because of a little argument. It was very obvious he thought it all out before visiting with his intentions. I had great urge to cry but fought back my tears.
“Kelvin what are you doing?” i asked softly, my heart p******g furiously, my lips trembling.
“I beg of you Kelvin, don’t be insensitive. Think about what you are doing. Think of the consequences. Dear me” Lydia begged with despair, stopping him with her words. He turned and faced her
“It may not be a good decision, but I’m proud of it. I know i might ending up paying for everything but it doesn’t bother me. Stella is a very beautiful, generous and wonderful boss. She never was my girl. I tried making her such but no, she’s just caught out to be my boss. I’m still very much grateful and indebted to her. Yea i’m willing to sell and sacrifice all i have got to repay her and be free” he said solemnly, while Lydia stared at me with pity. It was obvious she felt my pains.
I couldn’t just talk. I was too deep in shock to utter a single word.
“it’s because of Lilian, isn’t it?” she asked him.
“No, of course Lilian has no hand in the decision i just made” he answered, gave me a last look and left without another word. Lydia quickly held me strongly.
“Don’t cry please. You are still sick, hope you know” she begged.
“Of course i’m not going to cry. You know me. I’m an iron lady. All i’m thinking is how to deal with this idiot” i hissed, flinging away Kelvin’s engagement ring.
I was extremely heartbroken but there wasn’t any need crying over spilt milk like a school girl.
Part B: Kelvin’s narration.
I left Lydia’s house shaking nervously. I couldn’t believe what i did. I couldn’t believe i just bit the finger that nursed me into a man.
“oh my God” i cried, ran to my car and drove recklessly to Lilian’s house. My intention was to head home but a stronger force pushed me to Lilian’s.
Perhaps i headed there because i needed someone to talk to. I needed someone, a friend to share what i just did.
“i did it. I did it. I just broke up with her” i cried to an astonished Lilian who quickly hugged me.
“i know she’s going to come after me. I may end up losing everything” i sobbed.
“sssshhh say nothing. You are a man” she said quietly.
