3RD OCTOBER 1997
EP 2
They’re times that even in the face of the most dangerous eminent disaster, fear will desert you because you suddenly found out the uselessness of been afraid when it has no added value. Sarah, Mr Idoko’s wife did something she would never do in her right thinking state of mind. Throwing her son down from the window was almost the same as letting him get shot in the head by the criminals but the. She believes in the single percentage of that possibility of his survival. She was dragged to her knees beside her breeding lifeless husband. You will all live to beg for deathh in an unbearable pains and you won’t see deathh coming your way!” Sarah cursedd as she turned her husband on his back, she cried painfully as she wished everything were just a nightmares. Seeing the snaring looks on those masked criminals, Sarah knew they won’t ever let her live so she decided to asked them a question for the last time. “My husband is deadd already and i know you won’t spare me either, our only son fell down to his deathh too, if you’re human even by one percent, can you please tell me who hired you guys?” Sarah asked without any faint sign of fear. The masked criminal, after regurgitating over her request for few minutes decided to tell her the person behind their tragedy after all, she would be deadd in few minutes time. “If that’s what you want, well, i will tell you. Your husband is a good man, maybe too good or a little foolish to trust people too much. Mr Jege is the mastermind behind this assassination, he has taken a huge sum of money from the company’s account and the only way to go scout free was to killl your husband who was the only person in privy to his dubious corruption within the company. Your husband’s mistake was not reporting him to the higher authority immediately he found out about his scheming. He doesn’t want any loophole so, you have to go with your husband ” the criminal said as he immediately fired the gun directly at her chest. She crumbled to the ground with a hurting m*****g. In a minute, the world became blurred, her vision gradually faded and with a little silent prayer for her son, she breathed her last air.
The moment Samuel felt his mother’s hand leaving him, his little heart tore in pieces, he felt tiny little stars floating before him. With no control of his life, he crashed to the ground. It was quick, it was as fast as the speed of light. Everything happened within few milliseconds and Samuel’s life left him. As he crashed to the ground, his eyes closed, his breathing seized and everything became past in his life..
The criminals rushed to the ground but the compound was too wide with too many paths, it was dark, the electricity supply had seized due to the excessive downpour of rain so, everywhere were dark and covered with waters. They couldn’t exactly pinpointed the right window but they kept searching making sure Samuel was found. “We should go and tell the boss we can’t find him” one of them suggested but the second one persisted to search a little more. He keep moving forward towards the right direction as he uses his hand to measure the position of the window. He slowly walked towards the breathless Samuel, he was just few steps away from him already. He kept looking with his torchlight, just as he was about to take the final step that would lead him to Samuel, he heard the order of the boss. “Let’s go, let’s go!! The boss screamed as he rushed outside. Immediately, all of them hastened to the vehicle they came in with. Though Samuel wasn’t breathing yet, it was just a split second luck that he wasn’t shot to deathd just like his parents.
The rain never reduced, it kept failing ragingly and ferociously and every droplets of it poured down on Samuel. He was drenched, drowned in the historical rainfalls. Just in one night, the once lovely and united family was brutally disunited. Everything turned into incalculable chaos, life that was once blooming turned into a cold night of never forgetting tears.
Few minutes past three o’clock, the rain subsided. Samuel had been under that rain for over two hours unconsciously now. Just as the rain reduced, Samuel began to have a dream. In his dream, he saw himself, his father and mother walking hand in hand happily singing beautiful songs with a smile that can never be described. They kept walking towards a destination they don’t know but their happiness was that they were all together. After walking together for a while, they was a huge storm coming right ahead of them, the storm was dangerous and destructive. The parents ran with Samuel for safety but the storm was like it had seventeen legs and uncountable wings, it closes down on them quicker than they could escaped. The father knew they can’t just keep running away, he had to stand and fight the storm, he charged towards the storm but like a pebble thrown into the ocean, he was devoured in the midst of the storm in an instance. After swallowing the father, the storm charged towards Samuel and his mother again, Sarah, seeing the eminent danger, she quickly hide Samuel behind a small tree in that empty desert and charged towards the storm too. Like a pebble, the storm swallowed her whole. Samuel cried loudly for his parents, he couldn’t keep hiding behind the tree while his parents were gone right before his eyes. Samuel stood up from behind the tree terrified, he was trembling, his entire body shivering of fears but he walked towards the blazing storm which devoured his parents. Just as he was about to jumped at the storm, his eyes opened, he coughed and he woke up from his unconsciousness.
Samuel shrugged with pains to sit up, he was bleedingg badly on his left leg. A little boy half alive wincing in unimaginable pains but he couldn’t sit still. He remembered seeing his father been shot deadd in the house, he remembered his mother wishing him safety too. On his hands, he crawled slowly in agony and anguish to the room where his parents bodies laid lifeless in the pool of their cold bloodd. Samuel turned his parents, he cried on them, he begged them to stand up, to wake up but silence was all he could hear.
Crushed, destroyed and disoriented, Samuel crawled to the table and picked a torch light. His father had always taught him to use torchlight whenever it was dark. He switched on the torchlight and scrutinized the floor and the wall them he found something. “Run son Jege!” Samuel was a highly intelligent child, he started reading fluently from the age of three. Reading that terrifying handwritten of his mother on the wall covered with her bloodd, Samuel’s heart breaks in thousands. “Run son Jege!?” Samuel stared again at the writing. He knew her mother’s handwriting, though he doesn’t know who’s Jege or what was Jege but Samuel knew immediately that his mother was asking him to run far away because of a certain danger. He crawled to the bed, tore the bedsheets and tied his broken legs, he contemplated wether to run or stays, he looked lost and dejected then picked his father’s little mobile phone which was hidden in the wardrobe. His father usually keep that phone there, the criminals only took the phones they saw. Samuel watched his parents for few seconds and heavied a deep sigh, he turned his back with bloodyy eyes and banged the door behind him. Deep into the threatening night, he was gone with no direction of his destination but he must never stay close if he must survive.
