“How much were you able to invest during my absence?”. Tony asked Gretta as he typed.
“Four hundred million naira. We had twenty thousand spectators in the last five years”.
“How much did the land owner finally consider for that farmland of his?”.
“Seventy million naira”
“Wire it to his account, let us start business”.
“I thought you said we will start the Cocoa plantation in November”
“I changed my mind”.
She searched his eyes. “Is this all because of the love of your life?”.
He swallowed bitterly. “If money is all her father cares about to accept me, I will make that money”.
She gasped. “Despite the fact that she chose her father over you, you still want to marry her?”.
He nodded. “She cured my sister. She deserve everything in the world”.
“You really love this girl so much”.
“I love her more than my own life. Wire the seventy million naira to the bank account of the landowner, let me attend to the museum artist waiting for me in the guest room”. With that, he left the office.
Fred, one of the gallery managers walked into the office where Gretta was still seated and stopped short when he noticed that Gretta was crying. “Why are you crying Gretta?”.
“It has been five years, Fred…but Tony will never give up on this woman”.
“Men don’t easily give up on whom they love”.
Clara excitedly carried the bloody baby in her arms. “It is a bouncing baby boy”. She announced to the weak mother and gave the baby to one of the nurses. “Clean him up and call the dad in”. She took off her gloves and walked into her office to wash her hands.
Isabella joined her in the office. “Done with the labour room so fast?”.
“Yes. The baby was small and there was no complication”.
“So you mean Tony disguised as a waiter just to meet you?”.
“Yes. I could see it in his eyes that he still loved me . I never realized how much I have missed him until he appeared”.
“Do you think Tony will risk a relationship with you again?”.
“I don’t know. What do you think I can do for him to be willing to trust me again?”. She walked to sit beside her friend after drying her hands.
“Do nothing. If he really loves you, he will see the genuineness in your intentions”.
She nodded thoughtfully. “I heard he is starting up a cocoa plantation soon. Such man with so much potentials”.
“So handsome and brave. How can dad not like him?”.
“Somehow, I feel like my dad is intimidated by Tony”.
“Intimidated? Are you sure?”.
The receptionist rushed in. “There is something happening outside ma and your attention is needed”. She told Clara.
Clara Thompson rushed out to find out with Isabella.
It was Joshua Jordon.
He had arranged a marriage proposal signboard in the hospital compound and was on one of his knees, holding out a ring to Clara. “Clara Thompson, please, will you marry me?”.
She was shocked.
They had not even properly started being friends and he was proposing to her.
She lifted him to his feet. “Joshua Jordon, I am sorry about the stress of having you come all the way to Nigeria with the intention of taking me along when you leave. I will never marry you. And please, let this be the last time we ever meet”.
He fumed. “Is it because of Anthony Francis, the man who set my father’s company up five years ago? Is it because of that bastard that you are denying my proposal?”.
