Her Crush

HER CRUSH

Episode 1

*****

Linda had been standing in front of the mirror taking her time to look fascinating for the event.

She wore a body-fitting short red gown.

Littered on her mirror table were dirty wipes she had used to clean her face. She had tried so many times before achieving her perfect brow line. She then continued with other makeup.

Her husband had finished dressing up.

He wore a corporate shirt, plain trousers and matching shoes.

He had stood behind her watching as she tried and wiped severally the brow line she drew. She barely noticed him.

John later went to the living room and sat on the couch waiting for her.

He was a quiet, gentle and loving man.

About an hour later, Linda was standing in front of the mirror, looking satisfied. She put on matching stiletto shoes and took her purse.

She then went to meet her husband in the living room.

“You could have worn something better Honey, you look outdated. It’s a party for crying out loud,” she said looking dissatisfied.

“And who says I cannot dress this way to a party? This is my regular outfit, don’t I look good? What’s better?”

“Like a casual wear.”

“Casual? A better outfit. You know I love being in corporate attire. You have always loved the way I dress. What changed?”

“Nothing, let’s go.”

They both went out, entered the car and left.

A prominent man in their neighbourhood had invited them to his birthday party.

A few minutes later, they got to the venue. Everywhere was lively with colourful decorations and loud sound of music. People were exchanging pleasantries.

Linda and her husband spoke to a few persons before an attendant directed them to where to sit.

A few minutes later, a handsome young man walked into the venue. He wore a light body-fitted white polo and denim jacket that exposed his muscular chest and ripped jean trousers with matching chukka boots.

Linda gave him a long gaze. Her husband wasn’t comfortable with the way she looked at him.

“Who is that?” John asked.

“He is Kenny, we attended the same Jamb lesson a few years ago.”

“Okay.”

John didn’t want to go further asking her questions. He just kept quiet and observed her.

Kenny saw where Linda and her husband sat, he approached them.

They exchanged greetings and he introduced himself to Linda’s husband

“You are finally here,” Linda said looking very excited.

“Yes, I told you I would come. The celebrant is the owner of the apartment where I live.”

“Ok.”

“See you guys later,” Kenny said as he left.

He also spoke to a few persons before leaving for where he would sit.

Kenny was a jovial person who easily associates with people.

He relocated newly in their neighbourhood and he knew quite a lot of people.

Linda had met him more than once on her way back from work. Kenny relates with her just the same way he does with every other person.

At the party, the attendants shared foods and drinks and everyone was merrying.

Later on, the celebrant came out to dance and some people joined him.

Kenny also joined them. He was a good dancer, he showcased the latest dance steps as the music played on.

Neither Linda nor her husband joined the celebrant to dance.

Even though everywhere was buzzing, Linda couldn’t take her eyes off Kenny.

John noticed it but didn’t want to appear possessive, so he rebuffed whatever his mind was suggesting.

He focused on other things happening at the party.
