Episode Seventeen
“Don’t just assure me, let’s take action. I need my daughter back home, please do something,” Anna responded.
Her parents were peeking from the room to check if they were done talking so they could come out. After they couldn’t hear anything, they had to return to the room.
“Anna, get something for your husband to eat first before we can discuss about the way forward.
I know he hasn’t cooked,” Anna’s mother interrupted their silence as she entered the room.
It was as if she knew what William needed as the worms in his stomach had started looking for food.
With a deep sigh of relief, William greeted his mother inlaw”Good morning, ma’am.”, which she responded.
Then Anna appeared shortly with a plate of melon soup and garri which William devoured like a thiėf, unconcerned if anyone watched.
Everyone waited for him to finish eating before discussing how to save Isabel.
When William finished eating and noticed everyone’s gaze, he expressed, “I have missed my wife’s cooking, I haven’t eaten anything good since she left.”
Anna’s father then cleared his throat and began, “I have considered everything and concluded that we can’t just ārrest Kemi like that.
We need evidence, so I suggest William plays along with her, pretending to accept her proposal, distracting her while we investigate where she’s keeping your daughter.
We need to outsmart her.” William nodded, dissatisfied with the plan, asking, “Isn’t there another way?
Do I have to pretend to get close to her?””I don’t want that wītch around me,” he asked, and Anna’s father shook his head.
“Like I said, we will need to use her own game agāinst her.
She wants you before releasing the child, then you she will have,” he concluded and then waited for the others to bring in their suggestions.
Anna thought for a minute and realized that nothing could come to her mind, she did not want her husband close to Kemi as well, but she needed to save the daughter.
“Daddy, how are we going to do this?
Please, let’s start already so that I can have my daughter in one piece, delay can be dangėrous, I can not rest knowing that my daughter is still not back home with me” she said.
Everyone looked at how emotional she was getting, and then her father said to William, “Pick up your phone and plan a meet up with her.
I know she will be more than happy to meet up with you.
Make sure you act according to plan, just play along. It’s just for a while; we will make sure we call the police so that we can work with them,” he said as William picked up his phone to call Kemi.
“I don’t even know if she is still using the phone number I have here because it’s been a very long time since we last spoke,” he complained, feeling uneasy calling her.
“Don’t worry, darling, just call her.
If it doesn’t connect, you can try the number I have in my phone. One of them must go through,” Anna assured her husband, giving him a pat on the back.
William dialed the number, which said the line was switched off.
He tried again, and it was the same. He turned to his wife and said, “Give me the one you have, it seems she is no longer using this one.”
“Hold on, let me pick my phone from the room”, Anna hurriedly went into the room, picked up her phone, and then called out Kemi’s phone number to her husband.
“He dialed the number, and it was ringing.
William was under tėnsion at the moment, he even wished for the call to end. He did not know how to start acting all nice to Kemi, but he had to comport himself.
‘Hello, hello,’ Kemi said at the other end, and William could not say a word.
He had to end the call, then breathed in and out, stayed for a minute before he picked up the phone and called Kemi again.
“Hello,” he said, and Kemi responded with, ‘Who is this?”
He had to put the phone on loudspeaker for everyone to hear. “It’s William,” he said, and she started questioning him about which William he was.
Mentioning he was Anna’s husband made him more disgūsted with Kemi, who was just ranting over the phone.
“My love, I never expected a call from you. How are you doing? I know you have finally come to terms that you are nothing without me,” she brāgged.
Mr. William was always fūming, but he had to play along.
“You are right. I have come to terms that I cannot do without you. I sent Anna out of my house. I could not talk to you before now because I needed time to think. Where are you?”
he asked with a frōwn. Kemi was already happy over the phone, unaware of what was in store for her.
“Let’s meet and talk,” William finally said. He did not even finish talking when Kemi jumped in excitement.
“Where do you want me to come see you, in your place?’
She asked as she went to her wardrobe to select a perfect dress so that William would not be able to take his eyes off her when he sees her.
“We will meet out, not at my place, William finally said after a minute of silence. “Just get dressed, I will come and pick you up myself,” he said, ending the call.
“The audācity, If not for my daughter, that would have been the end of that witch,” he cūrsėd.”
