3RD OCTOBER 1997
EP 5
The luxuries of life, the glittering beauty of the day always make us to forget that we’re all going to diee. Sooner or later, everyone is going to diee, you too, you’re going to diee. We’re all in a single file of line waiting for our deathss but why we wait for our time, we shouldn’t be a rag dragged around by others. While we wait to diee, w shouldn’t trample upon others like their lives have no values. Jege was a desperate and ambitious man who want nothing but becoming the chairman of the BEICO CONSTRUCTION LIMITED. Now that the current chairman is old and frail with no biological child of his. The only adopted child he had was too pompous to be entrusted with the duty of the chairmanships of such a huge company so, Jege,s aim was to toppled everyone and become the most favourite of the possible candidates.
In BEICO CONSTRUCTION LIMITED, they were several directors that were reputable and remarkable but Mr Idoko always stood out among them, he was like an unopposed candidate, knowing the old nature of the current chairman and his special closeness with Mr Idoko, everyone already suspected he was going to be entrusted with leading the company. In terms of productivity, popularity and enthusiasm, Mr Idoko outwitted Jege but unlike Jege who had become desperate and devious, Mr Idoko wasn’t thinking of becoming the chairman in the first place, it wasn’t his priority as all but for that he was eliminated.
Mr Jege became murderouss when Mr Idoko discovered he was secretly stashing away company’s funds. Fearing that Mr Idoko would revealed his secret, he decided to killl him and his entire family but Samuel somehow was able to escaped the cold grip of Jege.
Knowing the danger of leaving Samuel alive, Jege hired more detectives to tracked him down. He doesn’t want a situation where his own three children would become the target of unknown stranger tomorrow.
Samuel was traumatized, he was in the state of total collapsing. His life seems valueless and confusing, he couldn’t think of what to say to convinced Fidelis but he knew that the moment he was taking to the police station, his life would at stake. That morning, it was on tuesday morning, Fidelis took his bath and early as five o’clock. He regurgitate over his decision to take Samuel to the police station for the last time and he made up his mind. The truth was, Fidelis had recently completed his Canada relocation documents and he was to leave in two months time. Bringing home a child was one thing but harbouring a child who was not speaking or talking and he knew nothing about him was more dangerous than anything. Aside that his relocation documents was for a single person, he just can’t keep a child he knew nothing about his background. “Doc, I’m heading to the police station now, please meet me there as a witness” Fidelis spoke over the phone as he walked to the parlour where Samuel was lying down. Hearing him speaking on the phone, Samuel’s body began to vibrate like he was shocked by electricity. He wanted to talk but it was like his mouth was glued together, his mind was speaking loudly but his mouth was closed. He was totally traumatized that he lost his ability to speak, the pains, the agony and anguish he was going through, only him could understand it.
“I’m sorry but i can’t keep you further. It is been three weeks since i brought you here but you refused to say a thing to me. Because of you, i have stopped my friends from visiting so they don’t find it suspicious but look, I can’t take this risk further. For goodness sake, i don’t even know your name!! Fidelis lamented as he lifted Samuel into the car. He could felt his reluctance to leave but Fidelis had made up his mind.
Three weeks since Mr Idoko and his family disappeared, his family had become like tigers with great fangs, they tore apart each other mercilessly like they worked for the properties. None of them remembered Samuel or asked about him. Two weeks after his deathh, Mr Idoko and his wife were buried side by side in the family burial site. During the burial, the chairman of BEICO CONSTRUCTION was present himself. He cried real tears, Mr Idoko’s deadd was like his own bloodd, he wished he diedd in his place. Not knowing how much madness the family members had displayed in scavenging for Mr Idoko’s properties, the chairman declared to support the burial with five million naira. Immediately after the guests left, the family rumbled with each other scavenging for the share of the five million naira, it was like a show of gladiators in the ancient Roman empire.
“I also promise to use all my connections to look for his missing child”. The chairman promised. The chairman’s words made Jege’s bloodd pressured. If the chairman was to find Samuel before he does, it would become more difficult to eliminate him. During the burial, Mr Jege and his men stylishly scanned the areas in hope to find Samuel but they couldn’t get a glimpse of him.
Fidelis stopped at the parking lots of the police station. He came down and held Samuel’s hand trying to bring him down but Samuel refused. He grabbed the side of the car seat tightly but Fidelis wasn’t going to give in that easily. When he pulled twice and Samuel gripped on the chair more, he called an officer who walked outside the station. “They killedd my parents!!” Fidelis frozen immediately at the sound of the cold teary voice from the small boy. After three weeks, it was the first time he heard him speak and it was a horrible one. “They?, you mean the police?” Fidelis asked curiously as he released his grip on him. He went back into the car and locked the door, a policeman walked towards them and asked if everything were alright and Fidelis assured him, it was fine.
“They shot my father and my mother and killedd them. If you take me to the station, they will find me” Samuel spoke coldly. His voice was with sad inexplicable emotions. It was bitter with fears and hopelessness but he had to talk, he knew it was his only chance to live and grow. “Uncle, please don’t take me there!!” He begged with misty voice. Tears streamed down his eyes, the tears were cold, heavy and pathetic. Fidelis gently cleaned his tears and asked who were the people. “I don’t know them but they want me deadd too” he replied.
Fidelis became confused on what to do. His once simple life Wes gradually becoming complicated and he doesn’t like it. First, it was just a case of a suicidall child who wouldn’t talk, now it has even become more dangerous. A child whose entire family was wiped out through assassination?. No way would Fidelis consider taking such a risk of harbouring him further. Fidelis scratches his head confusedly thinking of what to do with Samuel. He came down from the car, locked the car to prevent Samuel from running away. He walked into the police station and greeted. “How may we help you?” The young policewoman asked but Fidelis bite down on his lips and walked out giving excuse that he would be back.
“You must tell me everything when we reach home” Fidelis said as he reversed his car away from the police station and zoomed off with Samuel.
