3RD OCTOBER 1997
EP 3
Though the rain already stopped but the darkness had only deepened. Samuel was limping on his left leg, bloodd was oozing out of it but he must keep walking ahead. The whispering of the night birds, the loneliness of the empty night and the terrifying clapping of the trees made Samuel’s soul divides in two but he must keep moving. In all his life, he had only walked with either his parents or his few friends, never had he seen such darkness before. As he walked, tears streamed down his eyes. His heart hurt badly but he must bear with the pains to survive. From number 5 Akinsoye Bishop Street Victoria Island, Samuel had trekked down to the falomo bridge which linked Victoria Island with Ikoyi. He was already beyond exhumation but he bit down on his lips to keep moving.
A six years old boy stood on the high Falomo bridge staring blankly at the terrifying ocean. It was already early morning, few minutes past four o’clock. The earth was gradually becoming bright and few early risers had started plying the road. As Samuel stared directly at the river with bitterness and anger, they was a voice calling him to jump into the water. The voice was still and strong, it was silence and magical. Samuel listened carefully to that hallucinating voice singing like a nightingale bird in his head. Slowly, Samuel moved forward to the rails of the bridge, slowly he took another step. He held unto the rails and lifted his leg, the voice was raging, it was like a hypnotic drum. Samuel’s leg trembled fearfully but he kept climbing the rails. As he reached the last of it, he closed his eyes, he lifted his soul and like a zombie, Samuel smiled like he had found peace. He switched on the torchlight on the water which was calling his name. He lifted his leg and slowly Samuel let go of the rails. The river, the river, the deep River of falomo called on Samuel who was heavy laden and he answered.
Mr Idoko’s compound was full of policemen and sympathisers. People wailed mournfully as the news of the assassination circulated the town. “Hmmm!! Such a kind family, cruell world” people lamented. As their bodies were been taken to the mortuary, the police went ahead with their investigation. “I think the boy was taken away by the assailants” one of the policemen whispered to his colleagues who were busy examining the crime scene for any possible clue.
“Officer Jerry, look at this, it must be the bloofd of the little boy. But that can only be possible if he was thrown down this window” another officer said pointing to the window and the tiny footprint of a young boy stained with bloodd.
The BEICO CONSTRUCTION LIMITED was thrown into deep mourning, the unfortunately misfortune that befell Mr Idoko was a great blow to the growth of the company. He was a man of paper white transparency, his goal had always been to establish BEICO CONSTRUCTION LIMITED into the fore fronts of construction companies in the country. Half of the contracts awarded to the company came through his connections, now that he was deadd, the turbulence of the sea might really sunk BEICO CONSTRUCTION LIMITED.
“You fools, three grown men with riffles yet can’t get hold of a small six years old boy!. Uselesss bastardd, that’s what you all are” Mr Jege snorted angrily with a slap on the leader’s face. He was beaming with great anger, he wanted a situation where he wouldn’t have to worry about any revenge game in the future. He wanted a clean job but he was disappointed. Though the criminals didn’t succeed in killingg Samuel but didn’t the water succeed?. How many ways to diee, how many unpredictable things to happen, honestly, no one knows.
