The Waiting Pain episode 5&6

EPISODE 5: THE ULTIMATUM

Ada sat on the edge of the bed, staring at Chike, who was getting ready for work. Her hands trembled, but her voice was firm.

“Chike, I need you to come with me to the hospital tomorrow.”

Chike barely looked at her as he buttoned his shirt. “Ada, we’ve talked about this. I don’t need a test.”

Her eyes burned with frustration. “Then I will leave.”

Chike froze. He turned to her slowly. “What did you just say?”

Ada stood up, her heart p******g. “I said if you don’t go with me, I’m leaving this marriage.”

Chike scoffed. “You’re threatening me?”

“This is not a threat, Chike. For ten years, I have carried this pain alone. I have suffered the shame, the mockery, the humiliation. And you have done nothing but watch. If you refuse to do this one thing for me, then I know where I stand in this marriage.”

For the first time, Chike looked shaken. His jaw tightened. “Fine. I will go. But I hope you’re ready for whatever you find.”

Ada swallowed hard. She didn’t know what he meant by that, but she was ready. She had fought this battle alone for too long. Tomorrow, she would finally get answers.

EPISODE 6: THE TRUTH REVEALED

The hospital smelled of antiseptic and anxiety. Ada sat beside Chike in the doctor’s office, her hands tightly clasped together. For the first time in ten years, he was finally here.

The doctor adjusted his glasses and cleared his throat. “Mr. and Mrs. Chike, we have completed the tests.”

Ada held her breath, waiting.

The doctor looked directly at Chike. “Mr. Chike, based on the results, the issue is with you. You have a medical condition that has made it impossible for you to father children.”

Ada’s heart stopped. What?

Slowly, she turned to Chike, expecting shock, denial—anything.

But Chike just stared at the desk, his face blank.

The doctor continued, “It’s a condition that you must have known about for some time. Have you been tested before?”

Ada’s hands began to shake. Had he known all along?

Chike let out a long sigh and finally spoke, his voice low. “Yes. I knew.”

A cold chill ran through Ada’s body.

He knew.

For ten years, he let her suffer. He let her take all the blame. He watched her cry, watched her endure mockery, watched her mother insult her—knowing all along that it was never her fault.

Tears blurred her vision. “Chike, how could you?” she whispered.

He didn’t answer. He didn’t even look at her.

Ada stood up, her body trembling. This was the final betrayal.

She wiped her tears, took a deep breath, and made her decision.

She was leaving this marriage.
