The Night Shifts Episode 20
Dr Nath held Binta up from where she was kneeling down to beg him for forgiveness. He easily forgives people and he saw no need to continue fighting when his children were also there to plead for his forgiveness. There was no need to continue holding grudges when the person who was fighting him has even admitted that she was tired of fighting. Going ahead with the fight would mean he would like to spend the rest of his life fighting and that’s not what he wants. He just wants to be left alone and to be happy with Chi Chi.
“Don’t kneel down for me. You people should stand up. It’s over! We won’t be fighting anymore. Although, we will never be able to live together under one roof again, there is the need for us to be at peace. I agree with you Binta that there is no gain in continuing to fight each other when our marriage has already crashed and totally hit the rocks. Let us be at peace. I forgive you of everything you did against me. You were misled by your father. I also forgive my children for every bad thing they did against me. They wouldn’t have done those things if they were not told to do them. I forgive you all. However, it is in our best interests that we all live separately. But you will continue to be my children and I will also care for you.” Dr Nath said to Binta and his two children.
“Thank you very much for finding a place in your heart to forgive us. This means a lot to me and the children. Now, my heart and theirs have found peace, knowing that you are not holding anything against us despite all we did to you. I’m so happy. Today feels like the greatest day in my life. My heart has found peace, relaxation and happiness because of your kind words towards us. I will live the rest of my life to remember you as the best thing that ever happened to me. I will forever remember you as the best man that ever crossed my path. I’m so grateful that I bore children for you and I hope they will grow up to be as intelligent as you are. I hope they will grow up to be as humble as you are. But I do not wish that they will get married to a spouse like me.
God gave me a good man as a husband, but I carelessly threw him away like a piece of trash. I don’t want my children to be like me or to get married to someone like me. I wish you well in your future, Dr Nath.” Binta said to Dr Nath while her children listened with tears in their eyes. It was as if they too had realized the terrible mistake they were making by being enemies with their father.
“Daddy, we are so sorry! I was a child and I was misled to hâte you. I never knew what I was doing was wrong. But now I know better.” Dr Nath’s daughter, Chioma said tearfully. They all hugged each other. After the reunion, Binta went to where Chi Chi was lying on a couch and recovering and then also apologized to her.
“I have been fighting the wrong fight. I was not supposed to fight with you at all. You deserve to have my husband. In fact, you did the right thing to have snatched him. You saved his life. You are his savior. I keep wondering how he was able to live that long under my roof, being my husband. But he was lucky to have met you and I’m now giving up the fight. The two of you must get married and be happy. Don’t mind the fact that he touched me in the bush the other day. What happened was just a fling and he did it to escape from my captivity. Do not hold that against him. Nath is a good man, I can assure of that. You are going to enjoy him. You will enjoy everything about him. I’m sure you are already enjoying him, but I assure you there are more enjoyments coming your way from him. He is a very nice human being. My loss is your gain, but I take it in good fate. It was my fault, and I accept the consequences of my actions.” Binta said to Chi Chi.
“I’m happy you have realized your mistake. It means you are also a good person, because if you don’t have an atom of goodness in you, you would have not come to apologise. Well, whatever happened between you and Nath in the bush is now in the past. I will not allow that to hinder our happiness. I have since forgiven him. Thanks so much for coming to make peace. It means a lot to mean, knowing that you have realized you were wrong and that you are ready to move on with your life and to make sure your children turn out better.” Chi Chi said to Binta. They hug each other. Binta left the house with her children.
The next day, Binta walked into a police station and reported herself. She had wanted to keep the fact that she k*lld her father a secret, but she decided against it.
“I deserve to be in jail to pay for my crimes. I deserve to be locked up, to pay for all my sins, not just for killing my father, but for the evil I did against Nath. This is the right thing to do.” Binta tells the police. She was charged to court based on the confessions she made and she was sentenced to 21 years in prison. Her children, Chika and Chioma moved on with their lives. They had everything money can buy because Dr Nath was providing for them. They became successful in their careers.
Chi Chi and Dr Nath successfully had their wedding and it was so lit. They went on to live happily ever after.
