The Night Shifts Episode 15
When Dr Nath arrived at the house, he quickly packed the car and rushed into the living room where Chi Chi was still lying down. There was a lot of bl*d on the floor. Chi Chi was lying l*feless. Dr Nath started crying when he saw his wife. He was so heart broken that he quickly started thinking of what to do to help her. But no ideas were coming into his head.
“Should I take her to the hospital? Should I call another doctor to help me? Should I drive her to the pharmacy down the road? Or should I give her first aid treatment? I’m even confused right now.” Dr Nath said in his heart. Tears were rolling down his eyes.
As he was running around and thinking of what to do to help Chi Chi out of the situation, he heard a voice. He listened more carefully and realized that Chi Chi was the person who just talked. He was shocked after he heard Chi Chi say a few more words.
“Calm down my love! I know you can help me. You are stronger than you think. Stop running around. Sit down and be calm. Do not lose your focus. Remember you are a medical doctor with many years of experience. Remember you have treated people who have gunshot wounds before. Remember you can help me out and save my life. Go into the room and bring out your medical equipment. I trust that you will be able to remove the bullet from my body. You have done it before and you can still do it.” Chi Chi said to Dr Nath. She was gradually losing her strength because she has lost a lot of blood.
After Dr Nath heard Chi Chi’s voice and all that she told him, he stood up and rushed into his room and emerged with a box of medical equipment. As a medical doctor, he had bought the box and stocked it with a lot of equipment in case of emergencies like this. Sometimes, he travels with it in case anyone needs his help.
“Now, it is the love of my life who needs my help. I’m going to do my best to help her. Please, God steady my hands and help me to do the right thing to save my wife’s life. Help me not to make any silly mistake.” Dr Nath said a silent prayer in his heart as he located the place where the bullet injured Chi Chi’s neck. Luckily the bullet did not touch any vital organ. Doctor Nath carefully removed the bullet and dropped it on the floor. He stitched the wound and closed it. He also cleaned it and helped Chi Chi to stabilize. He gave her some medication which he has at home and she started to regain her energy after the bleeding stopped.
“Don’t worry, I will not die. Since I did not die when you were not here, I will not die now that you are here.” Chi Chi said as she lay on the sofa to rest.
“Thank God you are fine. I was so worried about you when Binta and her gang took me into the bush. I had to free myself and quickly rush home to help you. I knew you needed my help. If anything had happened to you, I don’t know how I would have handled that. I’m so happy I met you when you are still alive. And I’m so happy that the bullet did not damage any vital organ in your body. It shows that God is working for us. Our marriage will still hold and there is nothing Binta could do about it.” Dr Nath said. As they were talking, they heard noise close to the entrance door. Before they lifted up their faces to check who it was, Binta was already inside the room. It was then that Dr Nath remembered that he did not lock the entrance door.
“You think you have escaped right? Well, I’m still here. This time around, I’m going to finish off the two of you. I will finish you off and I will not leave any trace.” Binta said aggressively. She was holding a gun. She took one of the guns belonging the dead gang members.
“You are a liar! There is nothing else you can do to us. You are defeated. I defeated you in the bush. I overcame you and your men. I defeated you hands down. I suggest you give up your quest to make us break up because it will not work. You will not succeed. We are already husband and wife. Allow us to live our lives in happiness.” Dr Nath said. He stood up to face Binta.
“Look at someone who said he defeated me and my men in the bush. You are a terrible liar. Why not tell Chi Chi what really happened in the bush. Tell her about that thing that happened between me and you in the tent. You have not told her right?” Binta said. She was trying to expose Dr Nath.
“What are you talking about? Nothing happened between I and you in the tent. I simply defeated you and your men and came home unhurt.” Dr Nath said.
“You tell a lot of lies. Tell your Chi Chi the truth. Tell her what you did to me in the tent.” Binta said smiling while pointing her gun at them.
“Honey what happened between the two of you?” Chi Chi was weak but she managed to ask Dr Nath. She wanted to hear what happened. Doctor Nath did not answer the question.
“Well, since he has refused to tell you, I will say it. He ate honey with me. This is the man you want to trust? He left you here when you were injured and ran off with me to eat honey.” Binta said. Both Binta and Doctor Nath watched to see how Chi Chi would react to the damaging information.
