The Night Shifts Episode 14
The gunshot sent Chi Chi crashing to the floor. She fell instantly and became unconscious. She became completely unaware of every other thing that was going on in the room. It was like the sound of the gunshot made her deaf. She could barely hear any other sound in the room. As she fell on the tiled floor, her eyes were still open. She saw as Binta and her gang led Dr Nath out of the room. She saw how he was trying to resist them but they overpowered him and even lifted him up until they dragged him out of the building. There was no one else left in the room except Chi Chi and she could not help herself. Her body felt powerless and numb, and her spirit felt crushed.
Not long after Binta and her gang took Dr Nath away, tears began streaming down Chi Chi’s eyes. She was still alive but she was losing a lot of bl*d, if nothing was done to help her stitch the gunshot wound, she would surely dai within a few hours.
Meanwhile, Binta and her gang took Dr Nath into the bush. Binta had decided she was not going to keep Dr Nath at her house because the place would be too easy to find in case the police starts looking for her.
“Let us go into the thick forest where no one can find us.” Binta tells the driver who was behind the wheels that night. They drove very deep into the forest where they set up a tent which Binta had bought for this purpose.
“I’m fully prepared. I came prepared.” Binta said to Dr Nath. Dr Nath’s mouth was tied with a piece of cloth, so there was no way for him to respond to anything being said by anyone. But his heart was p******g. He was so angry that Chi Chi was shôt and he could not do anything. As they entered the tent, he kept wondering what must have happened to Chi Chi.
“I’m so sorry my love. I hàte myself that I could no help you when you needed me the most. You were shot by this monster and I was not there to help you. I could not do anything to stop her from harming you. I watched helplessly as you fell on the floor. God knows what must have happened to you now. I pray you just stay a little longer for me. I will come and rescue you and take you to the hospital.” Dr Nath said in his heart.
“What are you thinking about? You look lost. I want your thoughts to stop wandering. I want you to stop thinking about people who just came into your life just a few months ago. You should be thinking about me. I have been your wife for many years and we have shared many beautiful memories which are very difficult to erase. I don’t want you to think about that girl called Chi Chi. She should be dè*ad by now. I’m pretty sure she must have died. Even if you leave this forest alive, it is her dead body that you are going to meet. So, it is better you focus on me who is still alive and ready to be your wife again. Let us amend our lives and go back to being husband and wife again. This is all that I want.” Binta said to Dr Nath. Dr Nath was angry that Binta was still talking about them being husband and wife again. But he decided not show his anger. Soon, the piece of cloth on his mouth was removed.
Dr Nath decided that the best to do was to calm down and try to find his way out of the forest so he could go and help Chi Chi.
“This woman is sick. I know she might even kill me here in this forest. I don’t want that to happen. I will not give her any reason to kill me. I will not allow that to happen. I have to stay alive for Chi Chi. She needs me to stay alive as well.” Dr Nath said as he started to think of the strategy he would use to escape from the bush.
“I think I should play along with her. She would lose her guard and I will escape.” Dr Nath said in his heart. He decided to start responding positively to the things Binta was saying.
“You know I was deceived by that woman. She was the one who told me you are not a good woman. She told me to start disrespecting you. She said you were oppressing me. She told me a lot of lies that made me to hate you. It is now that you have come to rescue me from her that it downed on me that she was telling lies. It was like Chi Chi used charm on me. It was like she put love portion in my food. If she didn’t put love portion in my food, how did I leave my beautiful wife to follow an ugly woman like her? I’m so sorry my love, forgive me. I have heard what you said. From today onward, you are the only one I will be thinking about. I will never think about Chi Chi or any other woman.” Dr Nath said. He was massaging Binta’s ego and trying to play tricks on her. It worked massively.
“Really? I’m so happy you are coming back to your senses. I knew that it was charms she used. If not, there was no way you could have left me for her. I know you loved me dearly and you would never dump me for another woman. Thanks goodness you have come back to your senses. Her charm has stopped working.” Binta said.
“It has stopped. You are the only one I know. I don’t even know the woman called Chi Chi.” Dr Nath said as he started touching Binta in a sweet way. Binta was responding positively. Binta told the gang members to leave her and Dr Nath alone in the tent. All the boys disappeared and left the two of them to enjoy.
“It’s been long you touched me. I have missed you.” Binta said to Dr Nath.
“I missed you too.” Dr Nath said to Binta. They started eating apple. Binta dropped the gun she was holding beside her when they were eating apple. When they finished, Dr Nath grabbed the gun and pointed it on Binta’s head.
“Don’t move. Stay where you are!” Dr Nath said as he started leaving the tent. He came out and saw that all the gang members were sleeping under a tree. He short all of them d*ad. That was how he ran out of the forest, leaving Binta there.
“Let me rush to the house and help Chi Chi. I hope she is still alive.” Dr Nath said as he entered the car and started driving away.
