The Night Shifts Episode Twelve
Dr Nath regarded his wedding to Chi Chi as his first wedding. He invited all his family and friends. Many of his family members were not surprised that he had decided to divorce Binta, because they had always wanted him to leave the wicked woman. He was the one who insisted and stayed with her for that long. But everyone was happy he later took the decision to look for a better woman.
Dr Nath had money, and Chi Chi also supported him. They had all the financial resources they needed for the wedding. They wanted it to be top notch and a talk of the town. He set up a committee of friends which helped him in putting together a beautiful wedding. Everything was going well and the wedding venue had been selected.
Dr Nath had followed Chi Chi to see her family and to pay the required bride price. Traditionally, they were regarded as married and they had already started living together as husband and wife. Dr Nath bought a beautiful house for himself and Chi Chi. They were living happily. As for the traditional marriage, there was no party as it was just between the two families. The icing on the cake was going to be the reception after the court wedding. They prepared very well for it and they could not wait to enjoy their big day.
“I can’t wait for the reception after the court wedding. I’m getting married as an old woman, but I’m still excited about it. I suffered so much humiliation before getting a man to marry me. Every day, my family asked me to bring a man for them. All my friends got married and left me behind. I’m always ashamed being in the midst of my friends who are married because I’m always the only one without a husband. I’m so happy it is finally happening. Not just that, I’m happy I’m getting married to a very good man. I feel I’m blessed.” Chi Chi said a few days before the wedding.
“I’m the blessed one here, and I’m the lucky one. Imagine what my life would have been if I had remained with Binta my former wife. My life would have been hell on earth. She already made my life to be hell on earth. You were the one who rescued me from the cage. That woman was the weapon fashioned against me. You were the one God sent to rescue me. You will never regret accepting to be my wife. All the days of my life, I will live to make you happy. I will live the rest of my life to please you. Making you happy and joyous has become a divine project for me.” Dr Nath said to Chi Chi as they hugged each other.
Chi Chi happens to be an excellent cook. That night, she prepared Oha soup for Dr Nath. It has been long Dr Nath ate anything prepared at home by a woman, but since after he got married to Chi Chi, his diet had changed from junks to well-prepared traditional meals. He absolutely loves every food Chi Chi had served him since they moved in as couples.
“I want you to eat very well to your satisfaction. I want you to get fat. Before the court wedding, I want you to add a little weight. You are too thin because you have not been eating well over the years. Once you eat good food, your body shape will change. Even your skin colour will change and your face will look smooth. I’m committed to personally cooking mouthwatering meals for you every day. You have to promise me you will be eating everything I cook. I don’t want you to be buying food outside, except the day I’m unable to cook for you.” Chi Chi said as she served her husband the Oha soup in beautiful plates.
“I’m committed to eating whatever you cook. My mouth is always open to consume your food my love. Don’t even disturb yourself because my stomach is wide enough to accommodate your food. Just be cooking, I will be doing the eating. I have suffered a lot of hunger in the hands of my former wife. Now is the time to eat and enjoy.” Dr Nath said as he washed his hands and cut the fufu for himself. Dr Nath likes to eat ‘akpu’ pounded by Chi Chi. It was fluffy in his hands as he molded a lump and dipped it in the soup and swallowed it with relish.
“This is so good. I love the soup.” Dr Nath said happily.
“I’m happy you love it my king.” Chi Chi said.
Indeed, Dr Nath has been feeling like a king ever since he moved into his new house with Chi Chi. His life has changed completely as Chi Chi really treats him like a king.
Meanwhile, Binta was busy planning their downfall. She was aware that they have started living together in the same house and this broke her heart the more. She decided to visit her father to get some ideas on how to deal with the situation.
“Father, I don’t want that court wedding to take place. I want to do something that will separate them or cause the marriage plans to be called off. I don’t want them to be happy. Father, please help me to stop them. I don’t want them to be happy. I want them to separate.” Binta said to her father. Her father brought out his phone and called his boys.
“I have a job for you.” The man said over the phone. Within a few minutes, his boys arrived with guns.
“Follow my daughter. She has a job for you at her former husband’s house. Do whatever she wants you to do.” Binta’s father said.
“Thank you father.” Binta said.
“You are welcome my daughter. When you get to Dr Nath’s house, tell these men whatever you want them to do to your former husband and they will do it.” Binta’s father said.
