The New Apartment Episode Nine
The next morning, Jane went to confront her landlord as planned. As usual, the man was still sleeping when Jane got to his apartment. It took a lot of consistent knocking before the landlord came out from his room to answer her.
โWhy are you always coming here to disturb me in the morning like this? Am I the landlord or you are the landlord? What have I done to deserve this level of consistent disturbance? Is it a bad thing to give you a house? I think you are the most stubborn tenant I have ever had. Why are you giving me too much pressure? What is it this time around?โ The landlord asked with anger.
โYou are an evil man. You Think I will not find out? You think I will not discover what you did? You think Iโm like other tenants who you used your evil tactics to chase away from the apartment? You have met your final bus stop because I have discovered the things you do to people.โ Jane said.
โWhat are you talking about? Which evil are you talking about? Why are you calling me an evil man? What have I done to deserve such disrespect from you?โ The landlord asked.
โDonโt you dare pretend as if you donโt know what Iโm talking about. Iโm very sure and certain you know what you did. You just did not know that I was going to find out the truth about your actions. What were you thinking? So, this is how you have been treating all your tenants? This is how you have been cheating them? You get them scared and make them to leave the apartment they genuinely paid for? What kind of man are you?โ Jane asked. She was shouting with a loud voice.
โSincerely speaking, I know nothing of what you are talking about. I do not treat my tenants in a bad way. I have never harboured any evil intentions against any of my tenants. As a matter of fact, since you moved into the apartment in my house, I have made sure you are enjoying yourself. What is the matter this time around?โ The landlord asked.
โWhen I came here to tell you that there was a voice speaking in my apartment, what did you tell me?โ Jane asked.
โWhich voice are you talking about? You were obviously hallucinating. You were talking like a mad woman. How can you say you were hearing voices? Donโt you know it is only mad people who hear voices in their head? Only mad people hear voices from evil spirits. It was either you were running mad or something was going wrong with your head. You have to go to psychiatric hospital if you notice that you are becoming mad.โ The landlord said mischievously.
โYou are the person that is mad. It is your generation that is mad. It is your children that are mad. In fact, everyone in your family is mad. Do you know what your actions have put me through these past few weeks? You made me to almost lose my senses. You made me think something was wrong with me. Why are you such an evil person? Now, you are claiming you did not know what happened? Take responsibilities for your actions and stop denying what you did.โ Jane shouted at the man.
โI did not do anything. Iโm completely innocent. I donโt have the power to make anyone mad. You are the one who was running mad and you were looking for who to blame. If you are looking for who to pin your madness on, I suggest you should visit your village and ask your village people the reason they made you mad. Do not pin the madness on me to make me look bad. I have done nothing wrong but to look after your welfare. You have also never appreciated my efforts at making you happy. All you have done is to accuse me of evil without showing any evidence. You are an ungrateful woman. Despite all the discounts I gave you when you wanted to pay for the apartment, you have never come around to appreciate me. All you do is to throw false accusations at me.โ The landlord lamented.
Jane did not come to see the landlord with her boss. But as she wasting too much time, her boss decided to look for her. He went to the landlordโs apartment to meet with Jane. As he was getting close, he was hearing their voices as they were shouting at each other.
โOga please stop shouting. What she is saying is the truth. And there is evidence to back up her accusation. Were you not the one who planted this device in her ceiling? Are you going to say that you donโt know anything about this audio device? You planted the device so that she will get scared and abandon the apartment. You want her to be afraid and leave so that you will rent the apartment to another person. Iโm sure she is not the first person suffering from this. Iโm going to take this up with you. Iโm going to report to the police.โ Janeโs boss said. He brought out the audio device and showed it to the landlord. The landlord was shocked when he saw the audio device. He became afraid.
โWhere did you see this?โ The landlord asked apprehensively.
โWhere you kept it in her ceiling.โ Janeโs boss said.
โPlease, letโs keep it a secret. Donโt show it to the police.โ The landlord pleaded.
โThat is on the condition that you will allow her to live here free for one year.โ Janeโs boss said.
โDone! Consider it done.โ The landlord responded. Jane and her boss proudly left the landlord and went back to her apartment.
โI like how you protected me. I need a man like you to marry me. I feel so safe being with you. How I wish you will agree to marry me. I sincerely like your personality, but you have refused to notice me. Why have you not been looking in my direction? Donโt you like me? Am I not beautiful enough? Even yesterday when we passed the night together, I was expecting you to touch me but you didnโt. Why?โ Jane asked as she paused to hear what her boss would say.
